May 4, 2011I have a web chat application that uses flash in the client side to open connection to the server. When the client connects to the server I want them to be in connection until the client closes the browser or stops the conversation. The problem is that sometimes there is a network problem and the socket in the client is throwing an error and than closing. What I want is that the socket in the client will not close the socket immediately after an error or a timeout, but will try for at least half minute to check if the connection is fine before throwing the error and closing.
The code in my flash object is this :

Dec 3, 2010I am running a socket server using PHP. The socket server runs fine because I can connect to it using PHP.Now, I have a flash application that is trying to connect to it:

When I run the application locally, it works! However, when I upload it to my server I get a sandbox security error (#2048). The flash app is actually hosted on the same server as the socket server, and there is cross domain policy file in place.

May 9, 2011i'm trying to connect my flash application to my nodejs server running socket.io. To connect via web-browser is no problem. Now the problem, when the socket-server isn't running i get an IOError in Flash what seams alright. Now when i start the server and try to connect again, i don't get an error, but the socket-server doesn't receive a connection either?!

Flash :: Socket Class Is Not Working On Flex SDK 4.5?
Jun 1, 2011I am migrating an application from flex sdk 3.4 to flex sdk 4.5.I am using a telnet example of AS3 tutorials as base to construct a generic socket class that implement a specific protocol.The main problem is that the new application with the validated socket class does not fire any event (no error - no connected - no data - nothing). The try catch with the connect method does not throw any error. I checked if the events were successfully connected, but they are not fired never.Update: I used the suggestions to modidy the code. Actually, now I am receiving an error on the security policy.

It's compiling all fine, and when I try to send I don't get any errors, but also no result. No message is received. Am I on the right path? What's the logic behind the endpoint uri? What port should I use? Should I configurate Web.config? (beyond the flourinefx configs that enable RemotingService?) I don't get any response in the flourine.log.

Apr 19, 2011Currently we are in the design phase of an application that will allow two users to communicate with each other using chat and video (with audio), the application is a web application that currently is a java web app with Spring and hibernate, but we want to incorporate video and chat between two users and we are evaluating the options to developing it, so far we have two choices, either develop a Flex UI that leverages its video and chatting capabilities through Red5 or something like that and communicates with the Spring app using BlazeDS or a completely java based approach using (maybe) JMF and/or applets to achieve the video and chat interaction. The question is, which would be the most scalable approach to develop such an application?, what would be the approach that is the least intrusive from the end user perspective?

Mar 29, 2012i want to create a chat app using flex 4.5 mobile project for android device. For the chat screen, i wanted it to look glossy and stylish. Hence i thought i would use the list component and disable the selection in it. I m able to add the chat messages into the list. But i doubt if large chat data might hinder the performance. Im using a collection and i ve binded it with the list. Whenever i receive a chat i update the collection and it gets displayed in the list. Can someone tell me if his could pose a performance problem as list component is not intended for this purpose.
