ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash - Creating A For Loop To Create Dynamic Variables?
Dec 6, 2010
I have the code below but I need to generate it with a for loop. What is the proper way to do this? I don't initially know how many points i will have. I just want to create a for loop to loop through a variable that holds the point count such as "var totalPoints=10"
//1
var p1oint = new Point();
points.addChild(p1);
I've created a basic function that sets a movieclip to a certain state depending on which mouse cursor is set (determined by a variable called txt_cursor). I can hard code this to work great for the one single movie clip but potentially have to do this for 624 other movie clips so obviously want to create a for loop to reproduce this.
i am loading several images from an XML path into a flash movie and i want to dynamically create image loader variables for them. Here is my code so far:
Code: var xmlData:XMLList; var myXML:XML; var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
[Code]....
method and this doesn't work for me either, i'm guessing thats because it is in the AS2 forum.
Here is the structure of the XML file: PHP Code: <xmlfile><page></page><page> <source></source> </page></xmlfile> Some "page" nodes contain the extra "source" node. What I'm currently doing is looping through all the page nodes and looking for any source nodes. If there is a source node, I create a variable, and want to assign it a value of the contents of the "source" (HTML).
I'm attempting to create a graphical representation of the microphone activity in flash for a conference.
I got a movieclip called eqNotch that's just a rectangle and its linkage name is EqNotch.I also have a movieclip where I am writing my as3 on the first frame, its called dynamicBar and linkage name is DynamicBar.
I've successfully written the code for the dynamicBar to create one column of eqNotches and the number of rows is dependent on mic activity.[code]...
How am i to get the variables zombData.zomb0, & zombData.zomb1 from inside the "for loop"
I want this trace command dynamic
Quote: trace(zombData.zomb+i);
it works when i put zombData.zomb0 (a variable sent from a PHP script)but if i want to make it dynamic how it is; It fails & outputs NaN How do i make it dynamic for the loop?[code]...
I have done some (like 2 hours worth) research and have come up short, so while I browse the forums for a bit more help Basically what I'm trying to do is create a number of variables, depending on how many items are in an xml document.For example, I am running a for(){} loop to pull all the data I need out, and I would like to store it in the format:photo1.filename = whatever; photo1.value2 = whatever;
and so on. All the object property names (filename, value2 in the example) would be the same (obviously the values would be different), but I need the number of objects (photo1 in the example) to depend on how many nodes are in the xml document.
Actionscript Code: for (var i:Number=1; i<=3;i++){ var char_name+i = event.target.data.char_name_ + i;//It should be like//var char_name1 = event.target.data.char_name_1;//var char_name2 =
I thought would be coded like this: var sp:Sprite = new Sprite(); sp.graphics.beginFill(0xFF88CC); sp.graphics.drawCircle(0, 0, 50);
[Code]....
however, I realize even tho im looping that addChild method, its still adding sp, so do I add a new naming convention in the loop, or should I be adding these instances to another display object.... this seems like such a simple thing to do yet I cant figure it out, I also want to randomize the x and y, but this first seems to be the issue I need to address.
I am building an app where the user can add tabs as needed. Each tab will have 4 panels insideit. I can't get my for loop to build the panels. It keeps erroring out.1) How do I create these with a loop and 2) I am wanting to put data from a data provider in here. How can I reference the panel in the vbox in the tab control in the future?
function addNewTab():void{ if(labelText.text!=""){ var newVbox:VBox=new VBox();
I am trying to create dynamic variables.I read a file where I have this strings: building, restaurant and hotel.Then, will load them like
X = building. Y = restaurant Z = hotel.
Now I want to create variables like: building = 123; restaurant = "abc"; hotel = 2.5; So on how to use the value (building, restaurant, hotel) on naming or creating variables to use them later?
I want to populate the stage with a list of dynamic text fields with individual names, something like pg4_txt1, pg4_txt2, pg4_txt3. I'm a novice at flash, I tried creating variables with a while loop, but I just haven't got the grasp of it.
Here's some kind of weird pseudo code to explain what I want to do:
var leading:Number = 15; var i:Number = 0; while (i<14) {
I have multiple movieclips on my stage. Im bringing in figures from a xml file which i will used as my movieclip._y positions. So as the figures change in the xml file, my movie clips should hopefully float up and down.
I have assigned them a starting position, bring in the first array of positions and they float there nice. When i bring in their next aray of position they jump back to their first position then float to their second new position?
I'm trying to send variables to a payment gateway (dibs) and need to post variables to the likes of[code]...
In creating a dynamic variable I'm doing this, which works. But it's not posting the values to the php-page. (The "normal" variables are being posted just fine, so the error isn't there) [code]...
using flash to create XML, and most tutorials I find on the subject deal with opening external XML files and parsing them in flash, not using flash to make them.Here's my code:
Code: function saveSong(e:MouseEvent):void { for(var i = 0; i < myStaff.staffArray.length; i++)
[code]....
What I am trying to do is create a <measure> element for each item in my array, and then 8 <line> elements in each measure. I'll populate these <line> elements with data later.
Here's what the trace is giving me:
<song> <measure> <line></line>
[code]....
The problem I have is that empty space in the first line of <measure>. How do I prevent this from occurring? I can see I will have the same problem when I go to populate the <line> elements as well.
Im trying to create a simple loop that creates 50 buttons, adds them to screen and then when a button is pressed, it traces out that number. I can get it to work by doing stuff I consider hacky (such as using the buttons X/Y location to determine its value), but I'd rather just be able to hold a single value in the function.
The code itself is: for (var a:int = 0; a < 5; a++) { for (var b:int = 0; b < 10; b++) {
How can I make a bunch of variables from a for loop. for example for (var i=0; i<total; i++) {var bunch(i);}. that i make a bunch of variables named bunch1, bunch2, bunch3. I keep getting errors. I program and use so many different languages that I dont know if that can be done with AS3. my only other alternative i can think of is to create some sort of event dispatcher object array. but I dont know how to get them all to send events to one listener with there index number.
I am building a Gallery/Case Study application and I am running everything off of XML, and I need to be able to add images/text to the application whenever, without causing any problems. On the sideshow portion of the application, I am putting dynamically generated textfields under the picture viewer, with the number of the current image, highlighted. Similar to the one here:[URL] the first slide haha this was one of the best examples I could find. Anyway I've created the textfields, that display the correct numbers (that is, from "01" until say "07" depending on the .length(); of the XML tag <image>), but that is all they do so far. I am setting the type in the textfields by doing this
Code: _tf.text = "0" + myIndex as String
myIndex is a varibale incrementing as long as var i:Number is less than the length property of the XMLList I'm using to store the image URL's. I am adding the _tf var to the stage using addChild(); and multiplying i by like 20 or something to make the x values different for every _tf. My problem is that if i try to reference the myIndex value when the textfield is clicked, it says the value of myIndex is 7, which is what it was set to when the last iteration of the loop executed. Basically I need to be able to store a value somewhere, that is unique to each textfield so I can load the corresponding image from my XMLList. I've tried messing around with the .name property of MovieClips, but I'm not exactly sure how it works. I use it earlier in the code with my Loader instance, but I don't know how to use it with MovieClips.
So I know that if I want to create an instance of a movie clip called part01Roads from the library I do this:
Code: var part01Roads_mc:part01Roads = new part01Roads(); addChild(part01Roads_mc); part01Roads_mc.x = -22379; part01Roads_mc.y = 317;
Well I want to take this one step further if it is at all possible. Lets say I have 100 different movie clips labeled in a sequence: part01Roads, part02Roads, part03Roads ..... part100Roads. Instead of rewriting the above code 100 times, can I make a loop to do this?
