Jul 26, 2011I'm trying to edit an HTML that uses swfobject to load a flash file.
What I'm trying to do is to reduce the size of the SWF file.
I've tried editing the height and width parameter within the swfobject(), but that didn't work.
I tried reducing the width height in the HTML css, but that also didn't work..
How can I pass a 'width' or a 'height' parameter to the swfobject so it will actually load the swf in a smaller or 'zoomed out' way?

My center section has a MovieClip called info_txt, and I'm trying to make it high 20% of the center_mc's height. I do this, but I also load a text in that field (info_txt) with XML, and when the text (xml) is loaded and placed in the textfield it doesn't go multiline, but stays nowrap.

Due to design necessity, the mask is animated on the timeline across 60 frames.The problem arises when I use an Event.RESIZE listener to change the width of the parent movieclip when the browser window is resized. Any code to reference the mask, i.e

Simply results in the mask animation not playing at all.

Apr 21, 2009I am a newbie in Flash CS3. How to resize the width of of a movie clip according to the size the size of dynamic text inside it. I did it by creating a text field 'myText' and then converted it to a MovieClip symbol and named the MovieClip as myClip. The text in myText is assigned at run-time and its width changes according to the text.
I did it as follows:-
myClip.myText.selectable = false;
myClip.mouseChildren = false;
myClip.useHandCursor = true;
myClip.buttonMode = true;
myClip.myText.width = myClip.myText.textWidth + 5;
On doing this I find the clickable area changes according to the size of the text field but the text field doesn't appear at all.

I've tried several software to change the video dimensions but as far as it seems all of them keep the same height-width ratio than in the original video. I know how to scale x and y but that doesn�t work in my case because i have for example an object which height is 75 pixels and width is 137 pixels. X scale and Y scale would work if my objects were 100 pixels width and 100 pixels height.

Nov 4, 2008It's not my first time with flash, but it's with AS3. I'm having a problem and i don't get it. I'm working with Flash CS3 PRO.
The thing is that i'm working in AS3 with a movieclip. That movieclip has more nested movieclips within. So I've: + bicycle_01 ++ body_low
body_low is animated in bicycle_01. I've created a class that will manage my characters. (This is for a cyclist ranking). So within my main file I create the cyclist. I haven't even started and i found the first problem, i'm trying to change the width of body_low but it freezes. After i change the width of body_low, bicycle_01 stops playing.
Here is my problem: _cyclist.getChildByName( "body_low" ).width = 10;
If I add this line body_low width changes, but the animation stops. (right movieclip in this example)

Jul 16, 2010I have a class that in it's constructor I run the following code, that basically checks to see if the class movieclip is bigger than it's supposed to be, and goes through and changes the background art on each frame to be the size the user wants it to be (with 4 frames in the class and with bg art called "bg1","bg2", "bg3", and "bg4" respectively on each frame). So, I cycle each of the 4 frames and change the background art to the new width and set the parent class to xscale=100. The problem is as soon as I change the width of the bg art, as soon as I gotoAndStop to another frame that width is lost and set back to what it was.[code]...

Aug 13, 2010I know there have been several similar posts but of those I've read, there hasn't been an easy straight forward solution that will work dynamically. The solutions posted have ranged from
super.width = wvalue;
super.height = hvalue;
which I did not get to work, and it seemed from the response to the suggestion neither could the person who originally asked for help, to suggestions about using scale, all the way to having to create an event handler that will get notified after the load, which I guess would work once but wouldn't work dynamically.
Here is the scenario -
I want to change width and height for a MovieClip, but I dont want to scale it, (its more like cropping the MovieClip, not shrinking or stretching) and I want to do this several times not just after the load of the MovieClip.
So my questions are:
1) Is there anyway to do this that really works, that hopefully isn't totally convoluted?
2) Why is it so hard to do this in Flash/AS3?

When the Tween takes place though it not only changes the width, it changes the height as if it were scaling it up in both directions. Why does this behavior take place? And how can I get it so that only the width changes? I have also tried using scaleX as the property but it does the same thing.

Aug 17, 2011I have a custom alert box I wrote. It has an optional second button. I use the alert box in various ways which may or may not need the second button.Previously I was creating and adding the button dynamically, but because flash is so slow I have to preload the alert with two buttons. So there are always two buttons in this alert view. So if I have an alert with both an action button and a cancel button, then I have an alert with just a cancel button I want to hide the action button. However if I set the action button to hidden it still throws off the alginment of the cancel button in my HGroup because it's still taking up space even though it's not there. If I set the width of the action button to 0 then I am using a fixed with and whenever I need to use it again I will have to manually calculate the width of the button!! Is there a way to set the width to 0 then set it like it never had a width at all?

MXML Code snippet:[code]Basically, I want the labels & text values to align however the Grid component sees fit. However, I'd like the checkboxes to be right-aligned. I've tried setting the width of the textValues to 100% and it does nothing. I don't want to use hard-coded pixel values/canvases/etc because it is important that this is easy to change/update.
