Dec 13, 2009I am looking at taking on a project that will be a considerable challenge since I come from a LAMP development environment. I am wanting to create a Flash driven community with chat and profiles. In PHP I know how I would go about handling the data as everything is put together on the server and returned to the user completely formatted, however adding a flash layer on top of it present a problem. I am not sure how to transport data from the server to a flash file without using XML. The obvious problem that I see is as more people are online, Sending updated XML files to flash could become a bandwidth hog and make for a slow UI. best method of moving result data from a PHP script to Flash without using XML or is that going to be the only viable option? My concern is load time. Also is there a good way of unloading data once it is no longer used (ie Photos).

Mar 26, 2012I have been tasked with tracking user interactions with a flash movie that contains several chapters. I need to track which chapters the user decides to watch. But I have no access to the flash movie itself and I can not modify it. The movie loads in a modal. I do have access to the HTML page from which the modal is spawned. This is a screenshot of the interface. There are 6 chapters. Users can select the chapters they want to watch. They can then click Play Your Demo. Alternatively there's a Play All button. I would like to track which chapters users select. This can be easily done with flash, but this is not an option. I hope I can use jQuery on the page to monitor user clicks. I am inclined to say this is not possible though, since JS can not track events/interactions with the flash movie, but I could be wrong.

May 22, 2009On load - Get the current position of the movieclip object on stage which is stored in MySQL through PHP.When the user moves the movieclip object, update the x and y position of the object by sending it to MySQL through PHP.It's a pretty simple way of understanding Flash/PHP/MySQL Integration and I find it much less complex than a socket server but I don't think it's efficient enough to use with the constant queries. [URL] Does not really work very well, dont think the Y position works at all lol, when you refresh the page it is suppose to save your current object position into the database then load it again but it appears a bit buggy, not completely sure why - I'm pretty new to Load/Send but it doesnt matter much. Also the movement appears to be lagged too and opening a new window as a 'new user' does not share the same instance of the object on stage (I think that would require me to make seperate ID's for each user though to give them their own unique objects on stage.)Is there any better (more efficient and reliable) way of creating a stage for multi-user interaction (like player characters for a game which move around by user key input, not a chat room)...Which does not involve the use of a socket server?

Aug 10, 2009I would like to start a timer on a button release which will trigger a "time up" on the user when a reasonable time to respond has been reached. I think I know how to use getTime to set a starttime variable but how do I trigger the "time up" without any user interaction?
This is the code I have:

Flash Player - Fullscreen Without User Interaction (automated Testing)?
Jul 4, 2010At the moment I'm using Selenium-Flex to write functional tests for a video playback app.At the moment, I need to test that the app behaves appropriately when switched to fullscreen mode - make sure that the control bar is in a reasonable spot, the video resizes appropriately, etc., and of course to do that I need an automated way to make Flash Player go fullscreen.
For good reason, Flash's security features prevent being able to fullscreen except in response to user input. Actual user input, a javascript callback being called does not count.Is there any way to disable this security feature on my test rig, so I can actually run my automated tests on fullscreen mode? Barring that, is there any way to put Flash into fullscreen mode externally, so I can hack it up to work that way?
Flash 10 :: Javascript :: Open File Dialog In "without" User Interaction?
Sep 25, 2009I want to open a file dialog via FileReference.browse() but I get #2176 error which means that this action can only be invoked upon some user interaction. I'm aware of security considerations but in my scenario I have a thin flash movie which merely displays an image and the whole UI is in javascript (I heavily use javascript <-> actionscript communication).
So the question is - do you think it would be possible to invoke FileReference.browse() upon the user interaction coming from javascript?

I want it to be opposite the center of the stage, lets say the real mouse cursor is 200px to the RIGHT of the center of the stage, but the custom mouse cursor is 200px to the LEFT... get it? ActionScript 3.0 :: Create User Interaction Simulating The Use Of A Spirit Level?
Jan 18, 2012I need to create a user interaction simulating the use of a spirit level showing that a rectangular object on the stage is level. It doesn't have to actually work like spirit level, basically just has to give the impression that it has worked like one.
Maybe make the bubble of the spirit level should move (become animated) when being dragged to the object, then settle (animation come to a stop) when dropped in place on top of the rectangular object? Although I am unsure of the code to go about this?
Flash :: Realtime RTMP Streaming Of User-uploaded Files, As They Upload?
Jan 12, 2010I want users to be able to upload audio files to my server (say, over HTTP.. mechanism doesn't matter much), and then I'd like to assemble those files into a playlist and stream them out over a live RTMP stream to a Flash widget.The catch is: I'd like to begin streaming the audio files before they completely finish uploading. For example, if a user uploads an hour-long mp3, I'd like it to be able to begin playing on the RTMP stream once, say, the first minute has been uploaded.I'd like to support mp3 and AAC, and would hope to avoid re-encoding the files. Is is there a way to make this work with Wowza, Flash Media Server, or some other clever solution?

Media Server :: Storing Data For Upload When User Leaves?
May 30, 2009I am trying to work out if FMS is the solution I am looking for. I am trying to create a system that will store data, and upload it to a database when the user leaves the page. I thought the best way to achieve this would be to send a data object to the media server, check on an interval to see if the user is still active and then somehow upload the data when their "session" times out.

Aug 12, 2010I've developed a system that uses SWFUpload to easily allow the user to upload multiple files with a progress bar showing them the upload progress. It all works fine in my development environment, but is failing for some users in the wild with the Flash movie not loading. I can see the Flash movie is there, if I right click it a window appears saying Movie not loaded... (Then on the next line) About Adobe Flash Player 10...So far I've not been able to determine what was causing the failure.Are there any other alternatives to SWFUpload that will allow for:

Feb 12, 2010Basically im building a flash based drum head designer for users to upload their own image, resize, add text etc, then it be uploaded to a web server when they complete the purchase.
I have all the server side part working, able to send a 2800px square image and compress it into a 1.5MBish jpg.
the problem im having is for the user to upload an image into flash. I've seen prototypes where it uploads the image to the server, then flash loads that image, then upoads the completed one, but this uses alot of transfers.
What I hoped to achieve is something similar to the system on the [URL] website where the image is stored in the cache first. I have spent hours looking for resources on importing user images into flash without uploading first.

In regular AMF calls, we can access user principal and use role mechanism. However, in our upload servlet, we have no access to user principal.

Jan 22, 2011The purpose of this is too allow a user to upload an image from their machine to be displayed on a website. The code's pretty straight forward and i have it all working fine, but have come across an issue. When certain portrait images are selected to be loaded and displayed, they get rotated at some point in the process and become landscape? There doesn't appear to be any consistency to the way they are rotated. Some are clockwise, some counter clockwise.
The one thing i've noticed though, is that it doesn't appear to be an issue with images that have been re-saved (so simply taken into photoshop and then saved without any modification), only images that are the original source of an image taken by a digital camera? This has got me wondering whether there's a possible issue with flash reading the meta data of the source image? The attached zip file contains the source code and swf, a selection of images from 2 different camera's and a modified image.
Just to note, due to the dimensions of the images, in the source code the bitmap is scaled to 0.1 so that the result can be clearly seen. I've tested this without the scaling and the image still gets rotated. There's a trace in the Event.COMPLETE handler of the Loader.loadbytes() method and you can see from this that the width and height of the loaded image have been switched? Note - due to the size of the zip file (4.6MB) because of the images, i've put them up on my server for download instead.[URL]

Feb 28, 2011I've been trying to teach myself flash for a couple of weeks and am totally lost. I have had experience with programming in the past, so I understand logic, etc, but I really am not grasping this forced time based system.What I need to do seems pretty simple. I have a jpg of a washing machine front panel. I need to be able to put some transparent "buttons" over it, and have some areas "light up" when the buttons are pressed. So far I understand that I have to work in a chronological setup, with key frames for each state of interaction, and use buttons with some kind of gotoframe action script. what I can't do:
1. get the background jpg to stick to the stage. it apparently has to be either a symbol or a layer?
2. make transparent buttons. in flash catalyst I can just set the opacity to 0, but I'm not sure how to do this in flash pro.
I guess those are the pressing issues. I had tried to import the jpg as a psd background, but then I had to put the button on a separate layer, and it was always either behind the background, or I had to have it's action refer only to the timeline of it's own layer and not the background.
Flash Interaction After Flv Video Playback?
Dec 7, 2010I have a video embedded in Flash as an FLV. I'm able to get the video to play through the way I want, but when the video plays through and ends, I want to have two options/"buttons" display that allow the user to either replay the video a la youtube, or link to another web page.
I know it must a very basic question but I can't seem to find any answers. I've included a screen capture of the end of the video.
