I want to make a system that can edit local images (like adding some beautiful decorations) and save the edited image on the server. In FlashPlayer9, I have to upload the image to the server, and load the image back to flash. But I wonder whether in FlashPlayer10, I can directly access the data of a local picture.

As an alternate, the user could specify a file path for me, then I could open the text file and read it. Seems like this is a security risk and probably won't be allowed, but just checking. It looks like this is possible with flash 10?

View 6 RepliesI'm loading 6 variables from a text file to populate an array, then using setInterval to populate two textfields every 5 seconds. IE7 gives me the "A script in this file is causing Flash Player 10 to run slowly do you want to abort this script?" It runs fine locally, but when I upload it, it won't work. Files are in the same folder in each case. Here is the entire script.

I don't get this error when I embed the XML file directly with the EMBED metadata tag.
I'm developing an application and because of certain design restrictions I have to do it in Flash. This application communicates with another one done in c++, but just because I need a couple strings, so I thought it would be easy to write them to a .txt file and parse it. But the only way I've found so far is adding a browse event handler and select the file manually. That's no good for me, I need the file to be read automatically given a path, something like:

We've already tapped into the Twitter API and the survey, so those are A-OK.The problem lies within loading the images from a location other than the local interactive board's server.If the image itself is locally hosted, it loads just fine.If the image is hosted elsewhere, the image will not load, even though I have a trace on the URL of said image.I'm loading all tweets, surveys and images through an XML load and all the data is loading properly.I AM loading the image through a smoothing filter so that when the "post-its" are slightly rotated, they are not jagged. This is a two part script where the bulk loads in the image and places it into an empty movieclip, then adds the smoothing filter. The second part is a resizer that automatically resizes the image and keeps the aspect ratio.When I test the flash piece (not embedded in HTML) the thing works 100%.As soon as I put the swf into an html and view it on a web page, the remote images will not load.I'm a bit stumped on why this is, could this be a firewall or security issue? Because I work in a high security firewall environment.

Is there a mechanism in AS3 that enables me to read directly the content of images folder directly without using XML or should I use php to do that?

View 1 RepliesI want to make an application that loads some images with a Loader by making URLRequests to a local folder. Can I build the application and include somehow this folder so when I send it from a server to a client the URLRequests operate normally on clients side? Also if this is possible, the folder may be not viewable/accessible by the client but only from the Flash application that comes with it? So for example, this piece of code that runs nicely, locally, to my machine, if i send it to a client will continue to run to its machine. Can somehow send the folder and the SWF as one object?

I have a web based slide show that reads an xml file and loads images from a folder on the server. The client would now like to also offer this slideshow on a cd. I'm pretty sure that I can save all the assets to on the cd and the slideshow will work. But the client is concerned that someone with the cd will be able to directly access the images on the cd. So, here's my non-flash flash question, can the folder storing the images on the cd be hidden yet still be read by the flash movie?
