ActionScript 3 :: Read Jpeg Quality Of The Browsed Images?
Mar 24, 2010I am developing image uploader for Flash 10. Is there a way to read jpeg quality of the browsed images.

View 1 RepliesI am creating a flash image gallery, much like flickr. I need the fullsize images to dynamically change size according to browser size /resize. The original images are of various sizes when i load them. I have set the _quality parameter to "BEST" on the clip I load the jpegs into. It actually works pretty smooth, but in between when there is some sharp lines in the image, it looks awfull - the line being cracky and disordered.
View 1 Repliesway to set the quality of a loaded jpeg the way we're able to set the quality on library item? It's pretty neat to be able to set the smoothing, is there a similar way to set quality?? Is there an approach anyone would recommend for dynamically setting the quality on a loaded image?
var loader:Loader = new Loader();
loader.load(new URLRequest("myImage.jpg"));
addChild(loader);
[Code].....
When exporting, you get the little popup window which asks which actionscript version to use and such. There is also a option to reduce JPEG quality, which I really need in order for my filesize to be reduced.However, when I try reducing and saving, the file has the exact same size as my old uncompressed version, and it even looks the same when played.
View 2 RepliesEver since I got the hang of AS3 and discovered FlashDevelop, I pretty much abandoned fla.Back in the days, before switching to it, lack of alpha channel support by the .jpg format was a non issue, since Flash IDE allowed to embed png images in the library and apply lossy jpeg compression to them while retaining their transparency data.Programmatically, however, I'm only able at the moment to embed either flat jpegs, or lossless, consequently unacceptably large, transparent pings. (Indexed gif is not practical in the context/nature of the pictures to be embedded.*)
Is there a way to "JPEG-ize" pings at compile time using only code? Perhaps there are some parameters to follow [Embed(source = 'transparent.png')... that are not known to me? Obviously, I'm aware of such acrobatics as loading/embedding a external swf published from Flash IDE containing the bitmaps, or storing the alpha channels separately, ets but I wonder if this can be done elegantly to satisfy code purism.While GIF is great for storing pixel art, icons and whatnot, for smooth/soft images using way over 256 colors, its quality/compression ratio is rather unfavorable. Additionally, it only supports 2-bit transparency i.e. aliased edges.
I'm working on some optimisation techniques to allow Flash for export my .swf in various file sizes.I need to export the same .swf in a high quality and a lower quality version; so I normally just alter the JPEG quality manually.But I was wondering if there is a method using AS3 that allows me to adjust the JPEG quality dynamically? [code]
View 3 RepliesI have a movie that loads images from an external source based on paths contained within an .xml. As far as I can see, there is no restriction to the size of the loaded image, which are are JPEGs, hence flash will not have these images resized. The images look fine when loaded in Photoshop or viewed separately, but the quality is just awful when loaded within the movie.
I've tried the usual hints like increasing JPEG quality in Publish Settings, but understand that since these images are not imporated into Flash CS5 before compiling, but are instead loaded when the .swf is run, these settings would not have any effect.

I am new to Flash CS5 and I have created a slide show. I am trying to reduce the .swf file size for faster loading. I have been trying to adjust the size using the jpeg quality slider, but it doesn't seem to function whether I set it to 0 or 100 or anywhere in between. Publishing always generates the same size swf file.
View 3 RepliesThis seems like it should be a no-brainer, but I can't find any classes to do this ?? I can find classes to read song titles from MP3 files, I want to do similar with jpeg image files. In photoshop and lightroom you can set up titles and captions (and copyright info) in the metadata. When you save a jpeg this gets embedded in the file. How to read this info and parse it and use it once you have loaded it into a BitMapData? I am Flash/AS3.0 code only no IDE
View 1 RepliesI just wondered if there was a way for flash to read details/parameters stored in a jpeg? (author, date... etc)... without having to manually enter these things into an external file for referencing. It's probably not doable, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
View 2 RepliesI have a dinamic gallery loaded from a xml file, but the quality of the images (jpg) in flash is very low. Is there a solution to this problem?
View 11 RepliesI have a movie which is 1250 by 750. That is the largest it is ever going to be however I scale it down when viewed on smaller screen. The vector stuff and text scales fine, but the jpegs and pngs look very pixelated. Is there a scalemode I can set for these images that allow them to scale more cleanly?
View 1 RepliesI am trying to improve the quality of the slideshow displayed on this website[url]... My knowledge of flash is pretty limited. I know how to create the slideshow, I'm just not sure how to maximize the quality and keep the file small. The original was created as a .wmv and then converted to .flv. I have heard that creating the slideshow in flash using vector images is the way to get the best quality. So, my questions are:
1. How do I convert a jpeg to a vector image? Can I do this in photoshop?
2. How do I convert the .swf file to .flv without losing quality?
how to have 4 or 5 images continuing or looping at the top of a web page, no thumb nails just the images changing. This is the site I'm working on [URL], you better see what I'm trying to do.
View 1 RepliesI am only perfect with basics of AS3 and flash. I need AS3 code or a basic example/tutorial for loading of .jpeg images into flash from database.I had searched through google, but, any of the example won't match. If anyone has their ideas, atleast send me the algorithm for your idea, so that i can try by implementing the
idea. I think, once again when I open this topic, i will be getting my requirement.
I have two images on my flash stage (A camera image and a scenery image) The idea is that the camera is in front of the scenery. The problem is although both images are on my stage the camera is completely transparent and looks wrong . How can I set the cannon image transparency so that it is a solid image on top of the background image.
[Code]...
I have a combo-box on the stage with a few items in the combo-box and also have corresponding JPEG/PNG image files. I need to display the appropriate image onto the stage based on the selection of the item in the combo-box. So, please I need ActionScript code or procedure to handle this using Event-Handling mechanism of MouseEvent.
View 2 RepliesI am using this code
Code:
loadMovie(filename1.swf,_root.location1);
To load an external swf into my movie. That external swf is a 'loader' for some JPEG images.
The external swf (filename1.swf) contains four empty movie clips, and this code
Code:
loadMovie("IS.JPG",inviteb);
loadMovie("PLS.JPG",placeb);
loadMovie("RSS.JPG",rsvpb);
loadMovie("TYS.JPG",thankyoub);
loadMovie("main.jpg",main);
The idea here is that (filename1.swf) can be placed in any directory with images bearing those names, then be called upon to display the images in that directory into my flash page. The problem is that it doesn't load the images. I am sure it is because it doesn't know what container to load them into, because of the nesting. But I don't know what location to use.
I have tried
Code:
_root.main
_level0.main
_level0.location1.main
_root.location1.main
but none of those work.

View 2 RepliesI do have a problem to make jpeg images random in a swf movie.
I have found a tutorial which explains people to apple a single line of code:
imagenes_mc.loadMovie("ima00" + (1+random(5)) + ".jpg");
to the first frame of the movie which contains an empty mc "imagenes_mc" which should load a diferent JPEG each time someone gets into the website.
Thing is: ON my published swf nothing happens with that code and on the output windown i get "1120: Acess of undefined property mages_mc" and also "1180: Call to a possible undefined method random"
To print images the PrintJob class must be set to "printasBitmap". If the page has text and images in the same way PrintJob needs "printasBitmap" to print the images. But this setting become text jagged, low resolution, bad quality.
View 1 RepliesI have a flash swf gallery that links to my flickr images via the flickr api. If I click on the index.html page on my local desktop then the main images (jpgs) are displayed high quality via IE8, however when I upload the swf and html page to my server when I access it via http the images are highly pixellated and low quality anyone know why on my desktop via the browser its fine, but when viewing through the server the images are low quality pixellated etc [URL]
View 6 RepliesI am trying to import this transparent text with drop shadow but everytime I try to save it as a .gif or .png the quality is horrible. I've played around with the settings.
View 3 RepliesMy picture size is about 1000px by 1000px. It's pretty big, but simple. It has large circles, & when I place it in Flash, the circle's edges become pixelated and choppy, and not at all as smooth as it was in Photoshop. How can I maintain the quality? I tried putting a JPG in and a PSD, both of them looked really bad.
View 1 RepliesI am having a quality issue when rotating images dynamically loaded into movieclips. I am not resizing them. I am only rotating them. I have tried applying smoothing to the bitmaps, but that has not helped.
View 2 RepliesJust stumbled across this site: [URL] Does anyone know how they got that really crisp backround image to scale in Flash without pixelation? Been tring to get that down for ages.....
View 14 RepliesI am creating simple drawings in Power Point and them saving them as png or jpg files. I then bring the drawing into Flash using import to stage. The imported drawings lose some quality (e.g. straight lines appear jagged). Any way to maintain image quality when importing images into Flash.
View 5 RepliesSo I'm creating an AS3 doc with a lot of jpegs and pngs. I'm really new to flash and the last swf I made was 5.6mb, way too big from what I read. But I haven't been able to figure out how to avoid this...I can't decrease the images sizes anymore for quality's sake. Can I store the images externally so that only the ones needed for that scene load at that time?
View 9 RepliesI have images being dynamically loaded into a html textfield and they look very pixelated. I am able to getImageReference via an id attribute in the <img> tag, but I can't apply smoothing to this DisplayObject because I can't access it's content which is the bitmap. I know the image is loading and I know the reference is working because I can call the id name, I can scale, rotate change the alpha and apply filters. I have tried setting the stage quality to best, but that doesn't make a difference. If I do an addChild(loadedObject) as a test, the image is loaded (not in the text field) and looks beautiful no pixelation at all.
Here is the error I am getting:
1119: Access of possibly undefined property content through a reference with static type flash.display: DisplayObject.
Here is the code:
ActionScript Code:
var loadedObject:DisplayObject = testText_4.getImageReference('image_mc');
var myBitmapData:BitmapData = Bitmap(loadedObject.content).bitmapData.clone();
