Professional :: Jpeg Quality Slider - Reduce The .swf File Size For Faster Loading

May 10, 2010

I am new to Flash CS5 and I have created a slide show. I am trying to reduce the .swf file size for faster loading. I have been trying to adjust the size using the jpeg quality slider, but it doesn't seem to function whether I set it to 0 or 100 or anywhere in between. Publishing always generates the same size swf file.

Professional :: Reduce Mp3 File Size?

Dec 24, 2011

So I have this .fla file that a freelancer made for me before. I noticed that the mp3's he imported have really low size of about 800kb only for each sound. When I sent this songs to him, they were in WMA files and have 3MB size each. I noticed that the file location says "program files/total video converter/...", so I assume that he used the Total Video Converter software to convert the WMA to MP3. But how was he able to make the size to only 800KB? Because I tried other converters and the size doesn't change significantly. Lastly, I noticed that it says in the properties "50.0% of original" and the use imported mp3 quality is checked! Also, since the above situation has a WMA file. How about if I already have the mp3 file? How can I reduce the size?

Dynamic Jpeg Size Quality?

Oct 8, 2009

I am creating a flash image gallery, much like flickr. I need the fullsize images to dynamically change size according to browser size /resize. The original images are of various sizes when i load them. I have set the _quality parameter to "BEST" on the clip I load the jpegs into. It actually works pretty smooth, but in between when there is some sharp lines in the image, it looks awfull - the line being cracky and disordered.

Professional :: Reduce File Size Vector Graphics

Jun 16, 2010

When it comes to imported vector graphics are there any methods to decrease the swf's file size as much as possible? So far I have:

- imported an illustrator ai file (strokes 'expanded' in illustrator and unneeded swatches/ brushes etc. deleted and with no raster images embedded)
- exported the file in illustrator as swf and imported that swf into flash
- imported ai file and breaking it down to flash shapes
- optimized those shapes as much as possible

I rather use vector as much as possible. For a banner for examle, I've imported vector images of trees. I couldn't get it below 40 kb so I exported all illustrator files to png files which helped. Can detailed vector images be optimized just as much? Or is it better to use bitmap files when it comes to more detailed graphics? Does it matter if it is a vector images made in flash or a imported vector file even if both have the same number of paths?

Flash :: Professional - Reduce File Size Of Opening Page In A Site

Sep 27, 2011

I'm using the Flash CS4 IDE, and the first page of my site takes a lot longer to load than I want it to.  So I wanted to go through the varied images / symbols / movie clips / sounds and so on to see where all the memory is being chewed up. When I go into my library, however, I can see the Name, LInkage, usecound and Type of my elements, but no mention of file size and I can't seem to find any right click menu that lets me add file size to the list of details being displayed. Is there a way to make it show file size?  Or some workaround? And are there any best practices to reduce file size aside from using symbols for anything that's used more than once and reducing image and sound quality?

Professional :: Balance Image Quality With Small File Size?

Aug 16, 2011

I need to first express that I'm a fully self-taught Flash designer. No one has ever sat down and tried to explain to me the DOs and DONTs about Flash. I have followed tutorials, books, and anything else I can get my hands on, but never a person. People of Flash seem to be very hard to find, in my personal experience.I am the most comfortable with Photoshop, knowing very little about Illustrator or Fireworks. That said, I have been asked to create a 45KB (yikes!) max file, rotating 3 .jpg images I created from other .jpgs given to me. The images are usually large, so I am given room to compress them for a 300px x 250 px stage.

However, these images are always my biggest culprit for my huge file size. I'll import them in, making them into Graphic Symbols, but nothing seems to prevent the enourmous file size. When given the raw images, I would throw them into Photoshop, make the files the correct 300x250 size. Then I have tried: saving the image at the best resolution in .jpg and .png form, and then I tried saving the images as low-as-I-could-stomach quality. I hardly see a difference with file size when they are imported into Flash and used.I was told to use Fireworks's Optimize function, which I did, but it made my .swf even biggerWhen I have my Flash piece all set up/animted as I want, but I need to replace the bitmap(.jpg/.png) photos, I will:right click on the bitmap to get properties, "upload" the new image to be used, adjust the Quality, having "Allow smoothing" unclicked.

I understand I should make as much of the graphics in Flash as I can, instead of Import, but I am primarily given photographs to use.Seeing what my previous peers have done is mind-puzzling, but they are not around, so I cannot ask them for their advice. Their files are under 45KB and look sharp and amazing:[URL]

Professional :: Poor JPEG Quality When Loaded Externally In Flash Via .xml

Jul 26, 2011

I have a movie that loads images from an external source based on paths contained within an .xml. As far as I can see, there is no restriction to the size of the loaded image, which are are JPEGs, hence flash will not have these images resized. The images look fine when loaded in Photoshop or viewed separately, but the quality is just awful when loaded within the movie.

I've tried the usual hints like increasing JPEG quality in Publish Settings, but understand that since these images are not imporated into Flash CS5 before compiling, but are instead loaded when the .swf is run, these settings would not have any effect.

How To Reduce Vector Image File Size

Jan 19, 2010

How do I make a vector image smaller in file size than a jpg image? This sounds perhaps strange since vector in general is expected to be smaller in file size then pixel.
But take this image for example:
I can get this to about 8 kb if I were to use 'save for web' in photoshop (jpg / low compression). But then I thought I perhaps could get it even smaller by vectorizing it. But that resulted in an image of about 145 kb. Is vector not always better than pixel when it comes to file size?

Professional :: Keep Image Size Slightly Larger For A Better Quality?

Feb 10, 2012

I set my images at 60% quality JPG files out of photoshop which seems to give a very nice representation. I set up a site to take a full screen, so I expect it to be larger on a bigger screen then what I see on mine. I figured to keep every image actual size at about 25% bigger when the finlal needed size in the layout, so if the site is ever on the bigger screen then images have some stored resolution to be enlarged and accomodate an increase in size. So all of mine images are scaled at about 75%.

Is it a good practise or things don't work this way in Flash? Perhaps it is better to keep the images to 100% (rather than importing intentially enlarges images) but make the maximum quality? Or both ways kind of work out?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Embed (source = 'transparent.png') As JPEG (and Set Quality)?

Oct 18, 2009

Ever since I got the hang of AS3 and discovered FlashDevelop, I pretty much abandoned fla.Back in the days, before switching to it, lack of alpha channel support by the .jpg format was a non issue, since Flash IDE allowed to embed png images in the library and apply lossy jpeg compression to them while retaining their transparency data.Programmatically, however, I'm only able at the moment to embed either flat jpegs, or lossless, consequently unacceptably large, transparent pings. (Indexed gif is not practical in the context/nature of the pictures to be embedded.*)

Is there a way to "JPEG-ize" pings at compile time using only code? Perhaps there are some parameters to follow [Embed(source = 'transparent.png')... that are not known to me? Obviously, I'm aware of such acrobatics as loading/embedding a external swf published from Flash IDE containing the bitmaps, or storing the alpha channels separately, ets but I wonder if this can be done elegantly to satisfy code purism. While GIF is great for storing pixel art, icons and whatnot, for smooth/soft images using way over 256 colors, its quality/compression ratio is rather unfavorable. Additionally, it only supports 2-bit transparency i.e. aliased edges.

Professional :: Use A .ICO File Instead Of A .PNG Or .JPEG File In Flash Project?

Apr 18, 2011

I'm trying to find out if it's possible to use a .ICO file instead of a .PNG or .JPEG file in my Flash project. Is this even possible? The reason I'm asking is that the project I'm putting together uses ActionScript 2.0 code (not sure if that makes a difference or not) and displays a bunch of images for a bunch of different applications. So instead of creating a .PNG file for each application, since I've already got .ICO files on hand, I'd rather use those (saving me a ton of time).
