So I have this .fla file that a freelancer made for me before. I noticed that the mp3's he imported have really low size of about 800kb only for each sound. When I sent this songs to him, they were in WMA files and have 3MB size each. I noticed that the file location says "program files/total video converter/...", so I assume that he used the Total Video Converter software to convert the WMA to MP3. But how was he able to make the size to only 800KB? Because I tried other converters and the size doesn't change significantly. Lastly, I noticed that it says in the properties "50.0% of original" and the use imported mp3 quality is checked! Also, since the above situation has a WMA file. How about if I already have the mp3 file? How can I reduce the size?
I am using Flex Builder 3. Even for a small project, my exported .air file's size is around 400k. Is it because of all the Flex libraries being compiled into my application. I wanted to know if it is possible to remove the libraries that I don't use.

How do I make a vector image smaller in file size than a jpg image? This sounds perhaps strange since vector in general is expected to be smaller in file size then pixel. But take this image for example: I can get this to about 8 kb if I were to use 'save for web' in photoshop (jpg / low compression). But then I thought I perhaps could get it even smaller by vectorizing it. But that resulted in an image of about 145 kb. Is vector not always better than pixel when it comes to file size?

When it comes to imported vector graphics are there any methods to decrease the swf's file size as much as possible? So far I have:
- imported an illustrator ai file (strokes 'expanded' in illustrator and unneeded swatches/ brushes etc. deleted and with no raster images embedded) - exported the file in illustrator as swf and imported that swf into flash - imported ai file and breaking it down to flash shapes - optimized those shapes as much as possible
I rather use vector as much as possible. For a banner for examle, I've imported vector images of trees. I couldn't get it below 40 kb so I exported all illustrator files to png files which helped. Can detailed vector images be optimized just as much? Or is it better to use bitmap files when it comes to more detailed graphics? Does it matter if it is a vector images made in flash or a imported vector file even if both have the same number of paths?
I'm using the Flash CS4 IDE, and the first page of my site takes a lot longer to load than I want it to. So I wanted to go through the varied images / symbols / movie clips / sounds and so on to see where all the memory is being chewed up. When I go into my library, however, I can see the Name, LInkage, usecound and Type of my elements, but no mention of file size and I can't seem to find any right click menu that lets me add file size to the list of details being displayed. Is there a way to make it show file size? Or some workaround? And are there any best practices to reduce file size aside from using symbols for anything that's used more than once and reducing image and sound quality?
I am new to Flash CS5 and I have created a slide show. I am trying to reduce the .swf file size for faster loading. I have been trying to adjust the size using the jpeg quality slider, but it doesn't seem to function whether I set it to 0 or 100 or anywhere in between. Publishing always generates the same size swf file.
how can i reduce the swf size? it's 9MB and it takes a bit to load online. is there any solution to reduce its size so it can load faster? the pictures and loaded externally so they're not embeded in the file. There are some inside the movie but they were already reduced from their original size.

I am trying to reduce the size of my swf, and I see that I am using a movieclip on each frame on the Timeline, which has to be adding considerable size to my file, since I have placed the movieclip(animation) on every frame. How could I do this more efficiently and still acchieve animation between each frame? I have included a ripped version of the fla. , since the attachment limit here is pretty low. In the file the video - files and the picture files have been removed, but the rotate... mc's(animation) are placed in the interanim Layer and the Menustate Layer, on each frame.
I am importing layers from my Photoshop file to Flash to create a Flash Banner ad using CS5. My Banner size is set-up in PS as 160x600 72DPI. Are there any tricks to getting my file size down without losing anymore resolution when importing to the flash Stage?
I have a button and a movie clip. By pressing a button and hold it, the movie clip will keep non reducing or increasing its size until the button is released.
I have a simple application that consists of a HSlider and a list that contains a item renderer with a border container managed by a tile layout. For some reason when moving the slider to reduce the size of the item renderer it only reduce to a certain size and wont reduce any further. I use the same principle in flex 3 (with mx components it works fine).

When I preview my flash file it says that the filesize is 29kb. However when I look at the properties of the outputted swf it's coming in a t 36kb. Which is the correct size? Also what extra information is being added to push it up by 7kb?

I made a preloader for my single scene movie and although the preloader is about 16k, when placed into frame 1 of the movie and tested, the frame is shown to have about 256k, which is larger than the movie it's loading. I've gone through all the files and made sure that export in frame 1 is not checked and made sure the publish settings also are set to export in frame 1.
Is there any "mainstream" library used for this purpose? Commonly spread, well maintained, documented etc.I found these (using flash):
