View 2 RepliesI have a game built and I would like to reduce the loading time to the minimum possible. One of my ideas is to load the essential assets and some lower quality images the first time, leaving the higher quality images and some of the functionality out at first (for instance things like buttons that change the background color), and once the player enters the game, the rest of the functionality and its assets (images and sounds) will be loading in the background using the Loader class. So once the non-essential assets and the high quality images have loaded they will fade in and substitue the lower quality assets in the most subtle way possible.
Also... Would it be better to have various instances of a "Loader" class and try to load everything at once, or load stuff in order with a single instance of the "loader" class listening to the Event.COMPLETE event ?
Considering we have already done the following actions:
Flex Framework as RSL
Compiling with debug=false
Loading most images at runtime
Drawing other simple images with flash draw features
[code].....
We believe we spent a lot of time into asset optimization and most of the work is remaining on the code.By analyzing our link-report, our guess is that the heavy part of the code is comming from Flex .mxml nested components. We don't think there is much to do on our pure AS classes. Is there any analysis or coding best practice in order to reduce the impact of the code on the swf filesize ?
I am new to Flash CS5 and I have created a slide show. I am trying to reduce the .swf file size for faster loading. I have been trying to adjust the size using the jpeg quality slider, but it doesn't seem to function whether I set it to 0 or 100 or anywhere in between. Publishing always generates the same size swf file.

View 16 RepliesI have a 10MB flash file that I have uploaded to my website. No idea if this is large or small for a Flash file! The Flash appears on my index.html page. I have noticed that different browsers react differently, but when I open the page initially the video does not start playing straight away.
View 13 Repliesreduce the file of flash file as well as swf file to upload.I am a fresher. I don't know advance actionscript, xml etc. reduce the swf file size. So that i can easily upload the file. Also briefly explain me how to externally load the swf file in flash.
View 1 RepliesI'm working on a large application that is broken up into many independent swfs. There is a master swf that loads a navigation shell and the foundational logic, and a module loading system that loads child swfs into the main display area. This is all working smoothly, and now I'm onto building the modules, and I'm starting to feel like my methods aren't as efficient as they should be. The module swfs (and corresponding flas) are located in a "modules" subdirectory of the main project's src folder. These modules share a large number of classes. In fact, most them define no new classes that are specific to just that module. The shared classes have a complicated structure of inheritance and interface usage, and are located in a view/structure subdirectory of the main src folder.
Currently, in order to use the shared classes from view/structure in my module swfs, I add the main project's src folder to the source path in each of the module flas. Besides being a bit tedious to do every time, it.
1.) Redundantly compiles the shared classes into each module increasing file sizes across the board,
2.) Requires addition of new source paths to the modules for every developer who wants to work on/test the application because they are absolute values and different on every os's file system, and
3.) Doesn't allow modules to be built independently without access to the main project src folder
I have a Flash 8 a/s2 site but I feel the load time when a visitor visits the site is too long. The site does have music, pictures and videos but they are all loading externally.
Is there a way I can reduce the load time of the SWF?
how to reduce the flash file size (flash website) to upload in the web. And also tell me what is the limit size of flash sile to upload in the web.
View 1 Replies#Hi, does anybody know if there is a way to export faster other than changing pu/overclock/memory? Maybe a especial video card or GPU?I notice that when I export Flash just use 25% of processor, any way to improve this?I have a fast processor (phenom 3.4) and enough memory (4GB), but still need more speed.
View 1 RepliesI'm programming an xml image gallery for a photographer in As3.All thumbs load in from XML-driven external source and then if you click a thumb it loads (the same way) an image.Being that she is a photographer I'm assuming she will want large good quality images in the gallery. If there are large image files say 2mb or so, apart from changeing the image res/size is there a way to reduce the load time when those image are called or should I add a warning that the files are large and people will have to wait?
View 2 RepliesI'm using the Flash CS4 IDE, and the first page of my site takes a lot longer to load than I want it to. So I wanted to go through the varied images / symbols / movie clips / sounds and so on to see where all the memory is being chewed up. When I go into my library, however, I can see the Name, LInkage, usecound and Type of my elements, but no mention of file size and I can't seem to find any right click menu that lets me add file size to the list of details being displayed. Is there a way to make it show file size? Or some workaround? And are there any best practices to reduce file size aside from using symbols for anything that's used more than once and reducing image and sound quality?
View 4 RepliesI was wondering how to optimize my XML to increase it's load speed. I am using XML to load articles onto stage. Now they load, but one article in particular takes over 20 seconds when I test it on my machine which leads me to believe that is flash player that is choking.
View 14 RepliesI have a large swf that is embedded in Director as a sprite I now want to put it onto a web page, so file size is critical Is there a way to remove unused library items when publishing so that file size is reduced? Is there another way to compress the swf so it is much smaller? The current size is about 25 Mb.What about streaming the swf?I'm not talking about streaming video or audio, just any Flash content. In Director, there is a way to right-click on a cast member and choose "find in score".If something isn't found it means that it either is not used in the movie or is implemented through code

View 1 RepliesI am using Flash CS3. Now i did some image with mc(Movieclip) animation. Its come near 150kb. But i dont need this like file size. I want less then 75kb.also i did publish settings and reduce the jpeg quality near 40. But its come near 106kb...
how can i reduce this swf file size.
I've uploaded an AIR-built .ipa file to Apple. From Apple: "The app binary listed below was 8 MB when you submitted it, but will be 20 MB once processed for the App Store"
So I'm trying to trim it. I've gotten rid of all unused .as classes and all unused assets. Does anyone have any clever way of reducing file size further? One way I thought of is this[code]...

View 3 RepliesI've made a *.swf file of the sprite sequences of 1000 images with (780 x 480) size. After that I embed this with another one class to show but every time it crushes during run time because of insufficient memory (assume that I have 2GB memory space). Which is the best way to implement such big sprite sequences in AS3 by avoiding the memory problem?

View 1 RepliesSo I have this .fla file that a freelancer made for me before. I noticed that the mp3's he imported have really low size of about 800kb only for each sound. When I sent this songs to him, they were in WMA files and have 3MB size each. I noticed that the file location says "program files/total video converter/...", so I assume that he used the Total Video Converter software to convert the WMA to MP3. But how was he able to make the size to only 800KB? Because I tried other converters and the size doesn't change significantly. Lastly, I noticed that it says in the properties "50.0% of original" and the use imported mp3 quality is checked! Also, since the above situation has a WMA file. How about if I already have the mp3 file? How can I reduce the size?
View 5 RepliesI am using Flex Builder 3. Even for a small project, my exported .air file's size is around 400k. Is it because of all the Flex libraries being compiled into my application. I wanted to know if it is possible to remove the libraries that I don't use.
What are libraries like "qtp.swc" and the "automation" libraries?
I am working on a site that has a clock but it displays in military time, is there a way to change it to regular time. The following is the Action script:

I have implemented application client-server with spring blazeDs message services using JMS message destination. The idea is a producer declared in Java send message using activeMQ and consumer declared in Flex receives them. I have configured the AMFChannel with a polling interval 0, but I have seen when the consumer subscribes to the destination in Flex, the time request can be of up to 3 seconds.

carousel > XML > ASP the carousel looks in the XML to find the ASP file location. then from the ASP file loads some images (the file names are in the ASP file). for Firefox it is great (Firefox continuously loads until all is loaded then stops) but windows internet explorer will load ONCE and only once. this means that it doesn't load the ASP file in time and all the images dont load and any other information under the spinning images is undefined.
i know the information and images are there because when i refresh it works fine (it caches the information previously loaded) is there a way to make sure the XML and ASP file is done loading in time?
How do I make a vector image smaller in file size than a jpg image? This sounds perhaps strange since vector in general is expected to be smaller in file size then pixel.
But take this image for example:
I can get this to about 8 kb if I were to use 'save for web' in photoshop (jpg / low compression). But then I thought I perhaps could get it even smaller by vectorizing it. But that resulted in an image of about 145 kb. Is vector not always better than pixel when it comes to file size?
how to reduce the file size of JPEGs without compromising the quality. I have a flash ad that has3 screens with photos, but clients needs the .swf file to be under20K. I can only get it down to 28K.I've done the following: * cropped photo down to actual size* used "Save for Web" function in Photoshop

In my case, the timer I make doesn't reduce its time whenever a function is called. What code will I change or add in order to reduce the time in my timer? [code]At this point the timer.start(); is placed on a frame so that the timer starts as it enters the frame.
