Oct 21, 2009My Flex app downloads a bunch of images. When the user closes the browser window (or navigates away from the page), those images shouldn't be saved in the local cache. HTTP headers for the SWF file tells browser to fetch it from the website every time -- that is, it shouldn't save the SWF file locally. I just want to make sure that any of the images that the Flex app downloads isn't saved locally.
I checked Windows XP & Flash 9 for this. And nothing was stored locally. I assume this is true across all platforms and all versions of Flash greater than 9?

Jun 25, 2006I have pretty good basic "action script" skills for developing flash files and movies, but I don't know how to do dynamic things with asp, aspx, etc. I have a local application that runs form my computer and is not connected to the internet. The application keeps track of button clicks on each buttton as separate variables. Here is my question ... each time the flash movie runs and buttons are clicked, I want to record the clicks on each button (which exist in the application at runtime) and save them to something like an excel spreadsheeet or access database. Jan 7, 2012I'm developing a game add-on/plugin which replaces a built in feature of an online game. The game loads an .swf therefore, my solution also has to be an swf for it to work 'in-game'.
I would like to be able to have the user press a button in the custom .swf I am making - and this would open an external application (amongst other things). I.e. if there was a button that said Notepad, it would open Notepad.exe on the machine.
My initial thinking was that i could have a XML Socket server 'daemon' runnning (c#) , which i could connect to with flash - however, as both the swf and the daemon are local, flash complained and gave this error: "Error #2010: Local-with-filesystem SWF files are not permitted to use sockets."
The only way i know to fix this - is to change the security settings of flash - not very user friendly!
So! Any thoughts on how I could otherwise go about this? I was thinking a custom http server could do the trick (connected with URLRequest) although i'm not too sure.

I run the same SWF file (that was compiled on the Linux machine) on a Windows machine, and the created file contains the expected data. I was thinking there was a permissions problem, but if that were so, why should Linux even let me save the file? It is going to slow things down immensely if I cannot code something and test it on the same machine...

Jan 16, 2007I'm having a problem with flash/javascript/iframes. I have a flash banner that is positioned at a fixed position on the bottom of the screen. When I press a button on the banner, the page (which is an iframe) should change.
I got it to work using javascript. But it only works on the Internet. On my local computer it doesn't work. No error, nothing. it is a task for school (for my exams) so it should work only locally.
