ActionScript 3.0 :: Force Drawing Onto Screen?

Jul 18, 2010

I am writing a program in AS3 that gradually draws a line following some points on a bitmap.  Firstly I draw the bitmap on the screen ( load into a sprite, add the loader to the sprite and the sprite to the screen) Then I draw the line on it segment by segment.( add an empty Sprite to the screen and then do lots of lineTos)Sometimes my line drawing process goes wrong and I was hoping to see where this happens, but Flash Player 10 seems to have some clever optimisation, so that it waits to put the display on the screen until after it has calculated all of the sections of the lines.  This means that if it goes wrong it never displays the picture, and I cannot see what is going on. This is very frustrating when I use the debugger in Flash as it does not even refresh the screen when it reaches a break point how to turn this optimisation off and force it to draw stuff onto the screen as it is calculated.

Flex :: Force Delay Render Until Receive Data Before Drawing To Screen

Mar 13, 2010

In my Flex application, using a custom control, I am making a JSON request to grab some data from the server. My rendering depends on this data such as knowing how many boxes to draw. How can I either force the rendering to wait until I've got the data before drawing to screen or have the boxes draw once we receive the data? I have an event listener for Event.COMPLETE for my JSON request and in there, I call methods that add to the control. I've tried invalidateDisplayList but that doesn't seem to do anything for me?

Actionscript 3 :: Force Screen Redraw Other Than Using RemoveChild() And Then AddChild() To Get Image To Update?

With AS2 I could just access _root and create a text field with my trace data.

how I can pull this off with AS3? My class extends Object, it is not a sprite and is never added to a parent display object.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Drawing A MovieClip To A Bitmap As Though It Was The Screen?

Jun 23, 2009

Basically, I have a BitmapData object which is acting as a virtual screen.

I have a MovieClip which I want to render to the bitmap using the same transformation as though the bitmap were the screen. However, the MovieClip is not attached directly to the root

The BitmapData.draw() method takes a Matrix as an optional parameter, which I think I need to set as the MovieClip's localToGlobal transformation matrix. However, I don't know how to obtain or construct this!

ActionScript 3.0 :: Drawing Boxes On Screen Dynamically

Apr 11, 2011

I am very new to flash, and don't fully understand the drawing system yet. I want the user to be able to draw boxes on the screen. This is the code I am using:

Code:
Select all//Declare boxes
var boxes:Array = new Array();
var num:Number = 0;
//Drawer
var drawer = new Sprite();
drawer.graphics.lineStyle(1,0x00ff00);
this.addChild(drawer);
[Code] .....

How can I have the user see the box as they are drawing it, moving with the mouse, rather than just drawn at the end? Are flash's drawings just one time, or can they be dynamically drawn and refreshed?

Actionscript 3 :: Drawing A Rectangle - The Border Is Partially Off-screen

Jan 10, 2011

I am drawing a rectangle at 0,0 with a line-style-thickness of 4px. It has height 100% and width 50%. The right-hand edge has a border 4px wide, but all 3 other sides are only 2px, suggesting the mid-point of the edge is classed as the border. Why isn't the edge drawn 'inside' the rectangle?

IOS :: Drawing Images Off-Screen Results In Performance Drop

Sep 19, 2011

Im writing an IOS game using AS3. Here's the problem- I have an image on the screen that moves around. When the image's y value goes negative (the image is partly off the screen), the frame rates bottom out. I've gone over my code pretty thoroughly, even threw together a few test projects just to experiment. In all the test I do, whenever there is an object that is off screen, even partially, the frame rates drop. It's making scrolling backgrounds impossible. BTW, I'm using Packager for iPhone and a 3G (not 3GS). Frame rates are normally 24 with no problems

ActionScript 3.0 :: Generate Drawing API Data From Drawing Object?

Jul 22, 2009

Basically I've got a reasonably complex drawing object in a fla and I want to reproduce it in a class definition using the drawing api. However obviously this is a tedious task, so is there some trick or automated method of doing this?

Last time I needed to do this it was a drawing of an arrow and I ended up writing down x,y,width,height values for everything but this one has curves in it which I don't have experience with drawing anyway.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Drawing Api Drawing 40,000 Objects

Feb 18, 2009

I need to draw on stage about 40,000 4x4 squares each a different color. The color is determined by an xml file. I have this working in as2 and have converted it to as3 the problem is the amount of time it takes to draw is causing cs4 to time out. I have extended the script time out to 60 seconds. In cs3 as2 it would draw the squares in about 15 seconds. I was hoping as3 cs4 would improve performance but seems to be the opposite. I have tried several methods such as adding children and various drawing variations. the bellow seems to work the best, but is still causing flash to crash.

ActionScript Code:
import flash.display.DisplayObject;
import flash.display.Graphics;
import flash.display.Shape;

ActionScript 3.0 :: BitmapData Alpha Scrolling - Without Leaving Streaks Of The Side Of The Screen And Without Repainting The Entire Screen

Mar 6, 2012

I'm making a side-scrolling game, with a (theoretically) infinite background. I have a block engine that places the blocks on the bitmap canvas. Now here's the catch. I'm using the bitmapData.scroll() function. Now unless I clear the screen each time the character moves, it's going to leave ghost images of the border of the screen, like this picture: zanzlanz. tumblr. com/post/18857712784 If I clear the screen each time, then it generates a lot of lag (because it has to repaint the objects again). I'm a bit lost on how I can scroll without leaving streaks of the side of the screen and without repainting the entire screen.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Making Movie Full Screen, Not Just Flash Screen

Oct 27, 2009

Is a command for AS2 to make my movie file play fullscreen (stretch, fit to screen, anything).

goFullScreen(); is great but it leaves white bars left and right. What's odd is that I'm using Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder and it seems to display a perfect widescreen that I want as an input and output but once compiled in flash, it's more square leaving me with white bars left and right. The frame for the video in flash is also widescreen looking.

edit: I ended up stretching the width of the frame but if there is a better way through a command that would make my life easier so I don't have to adjust to every monitor that I run this on.

[ X ] Problem solved I just came up with something i have some trouble to handle I've tried a couple of solution but none seems to work perfectly

What I'm trying to do is simple, get my flash to go full screen, but whatever resolution the user has, my flash must centers itself with the biggest proportion possible, and two movie clips goes right and left of it, as if they were borders.

I've been able to do this with a simple png, but i was not able with a movieclip where his dimension changes through time. ( i have a tween, so the mc gets really big even though just my stage is displayed)

IDE :: Entire Screen Darkening (graying Out) In Full Screen Mode?

Sep 9, 2009

I encountered on the building of my largest flash project to date. The project is a dvd-based presentation with audio, video and text that's xml driven.The project has been coming along nicely but recently a bug has popped up that I haven't been able to figure out. Here's what's going on:

There are three main sections in the swf, the intro screen, the main screen and the content screen. The swf is set to default to full-screen with the resizing and re-positioning of the elements built into a resize handler. Since each screen has different content, each screen has a different resize handler that is removed when transitioning to the next screen before the resize handler is applied for that screen.

For the first two screens, everything is working fine, but when you get to the content (third) screen (where the xml loads), the entire flash movie darkens, and nothing is clickable. This only occurs when the swf is in its default full-screen mode, if you escape full-screen the screen goes back to normal and the nav is clickable again. Also, if you've escaped full-screen mode before you reach the third screen, it remains normal and clickable.

I initially thought that it might be an issue with the event handler for the fullscreen, but the bug never appeared in previous versions with the same code. So I replaced the fla file with one that was not causing the bug and got a functioning swf out of it, even though it was including the same as3 files that the buggy file was including. I saved that file and sent it to the client, who has been successfully publishing from it without a problem. So I thought, problem solved, just a corrupt fla file. But now, any version of the swf that I publish has the problem, even ones that published fine earlier, and aren't using any of the new code that was being used when the problem started occurring. is it possible that my flash app has gotten corrupted or something? Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before?
