ActionScript 3.0 :: Functions In A Exteral .as File?

Feb 9, 2010

I have an external .as file (just starting with external files) and I would like to have more than one function in there so that this .as file can hold all of my similar functions, let's say drawing shapes. Is this possible? If so how can I call these functions.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Mimicing The Until Functions - Load Of Global Functions In One File?

Nov 4, 2009

I'm trying to find a way to have global functions in my as project, similar to how flash does with stuff like the util functions (describeType()...), where you can just call the function wherever you need it. For example:

[Code]...

So when I call Test(), it prints out "hello world" fine. My problem comes in that I can't change the name of the Test function, and I can't add any other functions without compiler errors. Is it possible to have a load of global functions in one file, or do I have to split them up into separate files like in the example? Also, I know that I can make a Global class and call static functions like Code: Global.doSomething() but I'd like to know if there's a way to do it as flash does it (describeType(), getDefinitionByName(), etc), or rather, how does flash do it?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Organize Functions Into One File?

Jul 30, 2009

I made some general useful functions for my project that I use in many different parts of the code.

I broke the code down into classes.

I can't seem to call the functions I want from each class.. right now I simply copy and paste the code of these functions into each class I need them in.

Is there any easy way to make a big file with all the general functions that are not class spesific to keep things easier?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Global Functions Without Using Unique File

Apr 21, 2010

I'm tinkering around with things in AS3, and now that programming the reaction of buttons involves a bit more code, I'm trying to figure out how to kill a few redundancies.With the file I'm working with, at different points, using different objects, the user will click some specific thing to advance the main timeline one frame.Now, the way I've been doing it is, for each object, I have an addEventListener, which calls a function that only contains: MovieClip(root).nextFrame();So I've got, on every frame, unique functions that each require three additional lines of code -- I realize it's not much, and it's not a lazy thing, just an organizational, minimization thing.Since it's just that one thing, I don't see the point in making an entire AS file, so I didn't know if there was a way to make a function that could be called from any frame, from any object, rather than just have them local.

Actionscript 3 :: Multiple Public Functions In One .as File?

Jul 14, 2009

As I've been working with AS I've developed a collection of utility functions. For example:

$ cat utils/curried.as
package utils {
public function curried(f:Function, ...boundArgs):Function {

[Code]....

And I've found that, some times, I want to keep more than one public function in each file... But ActionScript restricts me to one public definition per file, if that file defines its self as being part of a package.

So, without creating a class with static methods, how could I get more than one public function in a single .as file?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Accessing Functions In Separate File?

Feb 5, 2010

I'm working on an mp3 player. It makes use of a custom scrollbar I found here: [URL]

I've gotten it to work so far, but there is one bit I would like to add. I would like it to scroll to specific y-coords when a button is clicked. The code for the scrollbar is all in an external AS file, which is referred to by an exported movieclip in the main fla.

how I would go about referring to this file, or just some other method of doing this? I'll paste the AS code as well as the basic fla code.

fla code:

Code:
var s:Sprite = new Sprite();
txt_mc.spacer.visible = false;
sb.init(txt_mc, "easeOutBack",0,true,2);

ActionScript 3.0 :: Calling Parent Functions From A Loaded Swf File?

May 29, 2009

I have a main Flash file that loads up other SWF files using Loader objects.  I want to be able to call methods of this main object from within the loaded SWF files.  For instance, I want the loaded file to be able to add an event listener to the stage of the main file.  I've found this example:

[URL]

Which appears to do what I want, but I can't figure out how to implement it in my setup.

My 'main file' that loads up other SWF's is called 'main.swf' and has a document class Main.

My loaded file is called start.swf, and has a document class "Start".

[Code]....

How can I reach the stage from a loaded SWF?  Or at least, how can I call a function in my Main Class from the loaded start.swf file so I can move the functionality I need to the main.swf file?

Embed SWF File In Flex And Interact With ExternalInterface Functions

Sep 1, 2011

I use a SWF file that exposes functions and events using ExternalInterface. Here is an example of an exposed function:
ExternalInterface.addCallback("myFunction", ExecuteMyFunction);

If I embed the file in an HTML page, I can access those functions using JavaScript. Now, I'm embedding that same SWF file dynamically in a Flex app using the mx:SWFLoader component, something like:
<mx:SWFLoader id="myLoader" source="[URL]" autoLoad="true"/>

I'm trying to access those exposed functions and events, but I can't find how to interact with those from the Flex app. I would like to be able to call a function just like from JavaScript, like:
myLoader.myFunction();
How can I access a function that is exposed by the ExternalInterface within Flex?

Actionscript 3 - Different Functions For Different Sprites In 1 Fla File Code On Flash

Nov 13, 2011

i am creating a game using flash cs5 and a part of it is drag and drop. in the game, we have this so called sprites. if you clicked on sprite 1, the topic for the drag and drop game is like for example, science. and once done and when you clicked on the other sprites, the subject assign would be for example arts.is it possible to create 1 fla file in flash cs5 where in it contains all the possible commands for drag and drop game for all sprites? you see, i have a main fla file which is the main game this calls the other files or activity, and some other fla file which is the activity in the game like question and answer, puzzles and the likes.

i am having an idea about inserting each question game in different frames to make the code shorter and to avoid having to duplicate the code for the other sprites. or in other words, every time the user clicks the sprites assigned to that specific activity, it will call the specified frame that corresponds to the instance name.again, the sprites are located on the main fla file. when clicked, it calls another fla file containing the game and at the same time, getting the value of the sprites ti know which frame should it proceed to. and thus returning the score attained in the minor fla file to the main fla file after the end of each activity.

I find that a lot of people use the import statement but I cant get that to work with a simple Hello World trace, yet the include statement works fine (see attached).
