I'm just curious about the implementation of timers as flash is single threaded.If a timer event should fire, does it interrupt the current executing code, fire the event and then go back, or does it do something else?

I'd like to be able to stop all timers running if the user goes over a specified amount of time, but don't want to individually stop the timers using timer.stop(); Is there a way to stop all timers globally or find and iterate over all timers running and stop them?
View 1 RepliesI prepared a educational game at flash with actionscript. I newable at flash. But i have a problem. I create a main.swf and other swf's. I call others to main.swf with addchild() code. The swf which I called has sounds inside (i called sounds from file not embedded in timeline or linkaged from library). I create also some timers on other swf files to ease my job. Timers control timeline. But not controls the sounds. The problem is that when i unload or remove the child at the stage i can clear all of the items. But timers still continuning . I search the problem at web a bit and i meet by chance the following code,

it is for Flex i understood. But it can be possible with flash? anyone knows that how i can create a timersmanager class and register my timers on it.
In a game I'm making the timers that I use go one speed when I run it by pushing Ctrl-Enter in Flash but when I run the external .swf file created, the timers go considerably slower.I have managed to work around this by making the timers reset at lower intervals but I would rather not have to resort to this.

The call is coming from a button on another movie clip, which is invoking a function on Main.as. The

how to kill the timers from the removedHander function. I tried removing the event listeners but that causes other error messages. I tried doing a test if the listener is not null, then stopping it. That apparently never runs (I used trace statements to test it). I tried testing if the timer was .running and then stopping it, but that didnt work either.
I made a series of nested movieclips, and to stop all motion i wrote this code:

This code works fine, but can somebody explain how to write this in a more compact way?
Is there a way to stop all nested movieclips from playing?
Example: (all timeline driven)
container_mc has an instance of container_mc and has children :
a_mc
b_mc
c_mc
-none of the children have instance names (workflow coming in from a designer)
- these are loop animation
I can tell container_mc.stop(); and it's timeline will stop, however the childrens timelines keep moving.
How do i stop this clip from animating any further without reworking our asset library.

I've applied blur along its path so it looks like motion blur.If I place this inside another symbol and rotate it, the blur rotates also so the blur is no longer along the axis of the dotted line.Anybody know a way of stopping blur rotating within a nested symbol?

The Problem is splice doesn't appear to be showing anything in return, it comes up with an error saying: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.What am i doing wrong ? And how would i go with moving my playerObject around the array?

I have been searching for a resolution to this for weeks but to no avail. I have made a game already where I had a character names mainChar placed on the screen using the Flash IDE. With this method, i was able to access it's various nested movieclips such as mainChar.walk and mainChar.jump. The problem is that I am making a new game where the main character is loaded via external code using hero:mainChar = new mainChar(); in the external file. after this, i would like to check what the current frame of a nested movieclip is. for example, hero.walk.currentFrame. however, by initializing it using the external code, as opposed to my previous method of placing it right on the stage, the compiler is not picking up of hero.walk.currentFrame stating that "a term is undefined and has no properties (error type 1010)". Is there any way for me to let the compiler know that the nested movieclip is there. It's odd because i can state hero.gotoAndStop("walk"), but when i say hero.walk it gives an error, so i know it isnt spelling.

I have a nested movie clip (image sequence) that I use the code snippet from Flash CS5 to GoToAndPlay. The Movie Clip loops continuously. How do I get it to play once and stop. I've tried the snippet for GoToAndStop, I've tried stop(); in my 'Actions' layer. I've tried a stop(); in the last frame of my nested sequence. I've tried a stop at the end of the function but nothing stops the darn thing. It keeps going and going and going.
Here is my typical code that loops....

There are two(2) buttons on the page, basically and back and forward button, and the image sequence is nested in a movie clip in this case at frame (1) and another nested movieclip at frame (10). How can I make it play once and stop on the last frame of the nested clip?

I've been looking around everywhere to find a wait function and found nothing that will actually stop the code. I also read up on why it doesn't exist (because after 15 seconds browsers think Flash has become unstable).

What I would like to do is, once some condition is met, tell the parser to 'gotoAndStop' on the next frame AND ignore the rest of the code on the page below the 'gotoAndStop'.Is there a way to do this? I started a tutorial that didnt have part 3 and have struggled changing the code but still cant get my stop button to work with this - loading in sound file.
instance of stop is: stop_mc and of play: buttonPlay. Both are on stage on the same layer, with actions on the other layer in the only keyframe. actually I only have one song so dont need the var, but just want only to see the play button at the start, and once activated and playing only see the stop button. etc

I am working on a project and I have a bunch of AS3 code where it makes an image flip to a second image and then back to the first image. this code is all on frame 1 in the timeline. I want to put some tweens on following frames and then have the image link to certain points on the timeline. however i cannot get it to stop when i play it. it plays all the AS3 code and all of the tweens.below is my code: so how do i get frame 2 and up to not play unless directed to.

I'm working on a music player in Flash actionscript 2.0, because I can't get any codes that I've found for 3.0 to work. So surely it's obvious that I am not a coder. I've made each of the three songs have it's own play button, with its name on it. The buttons play like they should, however, if a song is playing and you choose to play another instead, the second song will play over the first. So the first song is not stopping. I have a stop button that will terminate all of the sounds. But since the player will be publicly displayed, I want to make sure that people aren't inconvenienced by having to use the stop button every time that they want to change songs while one is in play. I'm having the same overlapping problem if a song button is double clicked or mistakenly pressed while it's already playing.Here is the code for one of the buttons. Can I add the stop function to it? If so, how? Or do I need a completely different code to achieve this?

Looking for a way to stop all movieclips both are the stage and that are children of the ones on the stage.
I toyed with looping thru stage's children so I can first target clips on the stage. But I am getting error.

I am relatively new at this and don't know how to code the STOP button so that it will stop the actions started by the first button.
