I am making a game. And this time trying to implement menu (-->tutorial) -> game-> scoreboard -> game over screens.

These screens themselves are quite different in terms of structure. So i am not sure if states is a 100% correct approach here (as I understand states are good for similar layouts) From the other hand many of them has back button to return to previous state, e.g. in tutorial I will have start game and back to menu buttons, etc.

I am aware of the built-in 'Strings' panel within the Flash IDE, however is this the best way to go about creating a multi-lingual AS3 site/application nowadays?Are there any recommended 3rd party APIs/frameworks available? Ideally I'd like to be able to change language on the fly and support as many character sets as possible, I will also be dealing with both static and dynamic text content.

I need a good multi language flash chart for my company's portal, can you recommend one? Already have tried fusion-charts, amCharts, and also OpenChart - But they are not supporting right-to-left, and the API is not simple (they require a complex XML).

I was just on the phone with Macromedia Technical support.Im using arabic language in one of my projects. Arabic is a right-to-left language.I'm usng it in the textarea component. Im facing two problems:

1) The words are displayed okay, but I can't align them to make them appear from right to left...

2) At the end of each sentence, the last word is chunked, and the rest is appeared in the next line.

For example, the sentence "Adobe purchased macromedia" is displayed as:

Adobe purchas
ed Macromedia

Like that. Obviously, flash cannot detect the words (or rather the spaces between them).

I have swf file containing a game with english language. for question sake will call it mygame.swfNow what I want to do, is to take the fla file and translate it to french and german and save to differen swf files.So now i have:English - mygame.swfFrench - ygame_fr.swfGerman - mygame_gr.swfSame game, different language.My question is: what is the acceptible / good way to contain text in fla file so it will be in one place? like hashtable or some array?I am developer, just not flash developer this is why Im trying to consoult Im not interested in keeping data in external files (xml), I want everything to be keept within swf.

I'm new here and I'm new to AS(3). I'm trying to make a multi-language website with XML. Here is my code:

It works, as long as I put it on the timeline. The only problem then is that I can't change the language when I'm on frame 2. Someone advised me to put it in an extern AS file, but when I do that I get the following error:5006: An ActionScript file can not have more than one externally visible definition: xmlData, xmlLoader I don't really know what that means, I hope somebody can help me out.

Also I'd like to know if this is the best way to make a multi-language website in Flash?

I have a main class that calls and removes screens with addChild and removeChild, these screens are movie clips.My issue lies in these movie clips, each clip is linked to a class - e.g. confidence.as links to my confidence screen.I am trying to add buttons and pieces of text from this class file onto the confidence screen, so essentially adding more movieclips on top of a movieclip that has already been added. I keep getting this error:TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter child must be non-null.I could do with some help figuring out how to add objects to my screens, as I am trying to prevent having everything in one class.

Flash :: Site Looks Different On Different Size Computer Screens?

I was wondering if anybody could help me out and tell me why my flash site looks different on different size computer screens?

I have built a site in flash and when I preview in html it looks different to how it does on my flash canvas (the text is a different size and takes up a different amount of space than on the original flash document). Then when I publish it and make it live it looks different on different size screens. On my laptop the text all fits in, but when I view it on my desktop the text cuts off, so that the last few lines of each text box is missing? What's going on?

I'm compiling using AIR 2.0 and currently have GESTURE_ZOOM and GESTURE_ROTATE working but for some reason GESTURE_SWIPE is giving me a few headaches. Has anybody had Flash player debuuger suddenly stop working for no reason whatsoever. What I've found so far: - No exception screens popping up.. in ANY browser. Reinstalled debugger version of flash player, no go. - Flashbug not showing in Firebug - No trace calls visible in FlashDevelop - Flash IDE behaves normal.. all trace calls visible - Firefox updated about the same time but problem seems to be on a wider scale This started approximately, on Sunday 8th Januray (or saturday).

Actionscript 3 :: Flash CS5 Displaying Different "screens" On The Stage As Movieclips?

Taking this thread to the next level and now making a Main.as class to display different "screens" of my game.For right now I only have 1 screen called ControlPanel, but this will eventually have multiple levels (each level will be a separate screen) and a level selection screen, etc. added. So at this point I'm losing control over how to give things access to the stage (in other words... it's getting really thick with multiple levels and this noob's brain is being overloaded lol).

To start off, I took all of my graphics that were on the stage by default (buttons, lights, meters, score text, etc.) and created a new symbol (MovieClip) that I called ControlPanel and checked off "Export for ActionScript" with a class name of ControlPanel. So now my games fla stage is black and I made it's document class Main.as. which looks like this:

Running this worked perfectly in that my Control Panel screen popped right onto the screen. Of course all the buttons didn't work yet but that is the next step. So I modified my old Game.as to now be called ControlPanel and read like so:

this is a hodgepodge of ideas torn between the docRef and the View idea. I need to have access to the stage for my mouse and keyboard listeners, but then I also need access to the buttons in the ControlPanelView symbol. Do I need to pass both the view and the docRef here? How to I maintain access to the stage and the ControlPanelView graphic?

Professional :: No Scroll Bar In Low Res Screens?

I just designed a web site. It looks fine on my big screen, but a few people that I have sent it to cannot see the whole thing. They say there is no scroll bar on the right side to go down. When I lower my screen resolution to 800x600, I get a scroll bar. Are they using an old version of flash maybe? I am using Flash 9 plugin. basically my program has this part in it where it emulates this menu system that's on a piece of hardware. So in my code I just have a bunch of objects in a hierarchy to represent the menu. Then function_1 will not be called at all as my_mc.onPress=function_2 will screen off the internal onPress=function_1?

I'm using Flash CS3 with Actionscript 3, and I need to have a scripting language that the user can use. If they could type in their own actionscript and have it evaluated, that would be perfect. Another scripting language such as Lua would be fine too. I looked into lua alchemy, but it seems poorly supported so I'd rather not use that. The Eval command from actionscript 2 isn't available in as3, and some of the things I've heard indicate that it's functionality is pretty limited, although I've never used it before.

What method or process do I use to set an iOS app to only one language?I recently had an iPad app written in Flash CS5.5 approved at the iTunes app store. I noticed at the iTunes store, it indicates that my app is localized in 14 different languages. I never set this up; it seems that there is a process that automatically adds several default language localizations to the ipa binary when the file is published. I tried the strings panel, used a var to set the localID, went into the SDK for flex and flash builder and deleted the locales (could not find anything similar for Flash itself), but none of this seems to prevent Flash from adding the language defaults. I have found many examples on how to localize my app for several languages, but nothing on how to set it to only one.

I have created a actionscript with Capabilities function It works good, but I want to ad a If else statement on the capabilities for language.I'm running in English so the capabilities shows " EN ", but I want the if else statement to change " EN " to = English, and if we are running in different language it would say " Other language"

Flash 10 :: Language Reference And Packages?

this is the URL of the language reference website I have been using for Flash/AIR: [URL]Is this URL the correct one I should be using when I need to look up a class or method or property or something like that? Because it does not match up with what actually shows up in the Flash IDE when I type an import statement. Most of the packages match up but not all.

For instance, the reference URL has a fl.events package, and so do I locally, but my package seems to be missing lots of classes from it that the reference URL shows. This leads me to believe I don't have the latest SDK's or SWC's or whatever I need installed, whether they be Flash, Flex, Air, etc.Also, I have a few packages locally that don't show up in the reference URL. Things like "flash.debugger" and "flash.trace", they are not my custom classes, not sure where they came from.

Lastly, there are certain AIR classes missing, and I'm sure this is because I don't have the latest AIR SDK installed. I did find it and download it, just not sure how to download it.

1) Is the above URL the one I should be using? If not, is there a better definitive location for Flash/AIR language reference that is updated and always has the latest and greatest info?

2) I have the latest AIR sdk on my desktop, how do I install it? (I'm using Flash CS5 on Mac OSX 10.6)

3) How can I make sure that what I see in that reference URL is what shows up in my code hinting when I type import statements in the Actions Panel? Basically I just want to make sure I am all up to date so everything is showing and working the way it should be. For instance, I am missing a ton of fl classes (containers, controls, core, data, etc.) I want to get these in place so my local copies are synchronized as close as possible with the reference. Documentation doesn't help much when you don't have the tools it tells you to use...

4) Take the fl.ik package for instance. Locally, I have available all the classes in the reference URL that I should, plus a bunch more that aren't there.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Making Interface - Add 'Screens' To My Current Class

I think I understand how to make a interface but the problem is im unsure as to how to add it to my existing code! To make a interface (as far as i know) You can create classes such as mainScreen, intructions and so on. Ok i get that, make the classes then add ther buttons from the library i these classes. But i followed a tutorial bu Emmanuel Feronto, and adapted that to the needs of my game.

So im unsure as how to add these 'Screens' to my current class, the I currently only have 1 class, Main which currently has 300 lines of code, and i dont know how to break it up into smaller classes. Thats the problem i think, The main is quite large, normally i have heard people keep this clear... But then say i made a bland main, and added the screens into that then how do i make the main that makes the game play on the play button?
