Oct 9, 2009The powers that be have decided a project I'm working on shouldn't go on a website after all, but needs to be on a CD for Windows users instead and of course I only have a couple of days to made the "relevant tweaks" as they call them.It needs to run directly from the CD so I presume AIR isn't a good option.I've got all of it working by publishing to a Windows Projector executable. The bit I'm stuck with is allowing users to click buttons to open various directories which will be on the CD. These are source files for following tutorials from the main part of the CD. I've tried playing around with the various options in the FileReference class (namely browse() and download()), but they seem to be set up for use online only.

May 25, 2010iam using a template, i designed everything alright but need to know how to click a thumbnail to open a file in the root directory.The XML file for the thumbnails looks like this currently and everything in the flash movie work and the explorer window opens to he link:

Dec 8, 2009I allow my users to upload files from a directory. I use SWFUpload so that they can upload multiple files easily. However, I need to get the absolute path of the directory from which they are uploading.A little research tells me that it can't be done in plain HTML/Javascript or in Flash.Java applets seem to support this, so that's what I'm planning on using. I guess ActiveX can also do it, but I don't know much about ActiveX stuff, so I would rather avoid it.Also, I can assume that the users are using Windows (XP or greater) and IE.It there an easier way (other than writing a Java applet) that I'm missing? Having the user type in the directory into a textfield is an option, but not a very good one.

Feb 9, 2010When I have a class linked to a MovieClip in my library and that class takes an argument in its constructor method. That class will compile properly ONLY when it's located in my top-level directory (same dir as the .fla and Document.as files). If I move that class to a deeper directory, say com.place, and update the package statement and symbol link appropriately, the compiler will generate error "1136: Incorrect number of arguments. Expected 0."Create flash project and put a rectangle on the stage. Covert it to symbol and assign it to class TestPanel - or whatever you choose. Also configure the fla so that is uses a Document (Main) class.Create Main.as and TestPanel.as in the same folder. In the Main class, instantiate a instance of TestPanel and add it to the stage. Flash will, predictably, add the rectangle symbol and everything is fine.Now modify TestPanel so that its constructor method takes a Number and have Main.as pass some number to TestPanel.[code]You now get the error: 1136: Incorrect number of arguments.Expected 0.When I move the TestPanel.as into a deeper directory, Flash somehow is looking elsewhere for the base class for Symbol, even though I'm mapping that Symbol to com.place.TestPanel.

Dec 16, 2010Im here to ask a probably dumb question again. This is related to my previous questions. I current found a way for flash/flex to send a video file(in byteArray) to php. Where php receives and writes it in the local sytem then sends it to the youtube server automatically trhu a script.This is all backend though I have no way to check if the video file was uploaded succesfully in youtube than to check it manually in youtube.
So im thinking of a new php script where it will receive and write the video file from flash. Then opening a browser window where it will automatically upload the video and at the same time track it thru the browser of its status using debug prints perhaps.
Im barely still learning php. I tried to do some research on this but found no success.
CS3 - Open New Browser Window From Flash?
Feb 15, 2011I'm running an online game site, and a few websites are really bad about embedding some of my games and stealing bandwidth.
To combat this, I replaced the original files with super-simple .swf files that redirected back to my own websites -- thus stealing back the traffic that they were stealing from me.
The problem came later when something changed with the new Flash player, and new windows no longer opened. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to get new windows to open. I've tried a few different approaches, but nothing appears to work.
So what I'm wondering is, can this even be done anymore -- where I can switch out a .swf that's being leeched with one that opens a window to my own site?

I have my projector set to fullscreen but when I open a web site or a pdf file these files open behind my projector so my final user doesn't realize that the pdf files or the web site is displayed. Basically, this is a button that (when clicked) is supposed to allow the user to download an MP3 file. It works as planned except that when the button is clicked, the MP3 just opens up in the browser or in Windows Media Player or whatever default "playing" application the user has. I want it to work in the same way as when you right-click a link and choose "Save Link As..." so that when they click it they actually will save the MP3 file itself to their computer (so, the "Save" dialog box will pop up when they click the link), instead of the file just opening/playing.

The problem is that when the browser window opens, the fullscreen flash becomes a resizable window and the user has to close the window and open the flash app again to make it full screen again. So i'm wondering if there's any way I can open a browser window within the flash app sort of like an iframe or lightbox pop up? I've heard of this Native Window thing but I'm not sure what that is.

Background...Our company uses Internet Explorer 6 as it's main browser on all employee PC's and for technical reasons IE cannot be updated. The problem is that the website App that I want to open has to be opened in a modern browser, the App will not run on an old browser such as this. Firefox is installed on all PC's, for this reason, but I cannot be sure the user has opened my website up in Firefox therefore I must check that they are using Firefox if not then it has to be opened first.

Jul 8, 2009I have the following problem, I have a flex application that works as a frontend in a client-server-application. In my application I have two sliders and a chart that moves when I drag the sliders, now when I have the following positions
slider 1: 10
slider 2: 20
a request is sent to the server and the response back to my flash. When I now change the sliders to
slider 1: 10
slider 2: 30
another request is sent to the server, because we have changed the position of slider 2. When I now turn the sliders again to the first position.
slider 1: 10
slider 2: 20
no request is sent to the server and the chart is moved correctly because the flash seems to know what he will receive, I think the application has cached the result. This effect only works when I open the flash application in the flash player. When I open it in the browser every slider position leeds to another request to the server. Is there a way to enable the caching also when I open it in the browser?
