ActionScript 3.0 :: Preloader Resuming - Load The Next Clip While The Current Clip Is Playing
Feb 13, 2009
I created a swf which loads multiple external swfs to 100% before playing. Which works fine. If I stop a clip while it's loading, I call loader.close() and I'm able to resume from where I left off at a later time. The problem I'm having is when I added the functionality to load the next clip while the current clip is playing. To be clear, I'll refer to the normal preloader as preloader, and the preloader which loads the next clip as pre-preloader. If the pre-preloader loads to 100%, everything is good. The next clip will play immediately without having to wait. If, however, the pre-preloader for the next clip is stopped at any point before 100%, the preloader will start loading at 0%.
With that being said, If I go back to the previous clip (which was previously already playing), the pre-preloader will pick back up where it left off, then if I go forward again, the preloader will pick up where IT left off.
I have a number of menu buttons (home, about, contact, etc). Each button loads a new/different movieclip onto the scene. Each movieclip when loaded plays up to frame 25 and stops. When I click on any of the menu buttons, I want the current/loaded movieclip to continue playing until it reaches the end of the clip before loading the next. I tried this actionscript with no luck!
I would like to make a preloader that has a movie clip playing. It's basically a looping movieclip. Also, I have an animation to play as the actual preloader. What would be the best way of going about this? I have basic actionscript skills but, i'm trying to learn a best practice to use while utilizing as3.
Basically, I built a flash site recently for the company I work for and I've never built a website before...
[URL]
I have it where the links in the header load an external swf for the content. What I want to be able to do is link to another page from within the external swf. As in, when you click a link it loads in the current frame, keeping the header.

I have created a flash website, each button is a movie clip with an invisible button over it containing the following script
on (rollOver) { _root.mouse_over_profile_btn = true; } on (rollOut) {
[Code]....
each page is also a movie clip and on release of a button its played. the problem is that when i press another button to play another movie clip 'page' the old content is still there.
Is there a way of reversing the page transition i have used to bring out the movie clip and then bring in the next movie clip.
Demographics - Action Script 2.0; Flash CS2 I have 4 MC clips. Each one labeled MC_Ball_1, MC_Ball_2, MC_Ball_3, MC_Ball_4. I want to randomly pick one to play. Have it play in its entirety and then wait 60 seconds and randomly pick another one, have it play in its entirety, and then wait 60 seconds.....keep going in an endless pattern. I can write code in frame 1 of root to randomly generate 1, 2, 3, or 4. Code below.
[code]...
Problem is when it goes to play the clip, it keeps playing the clip. I put stop(); at the beginning of each code, but it only plays the random number first chosen continuously. Instead of stop(); what can I write so it plays in its entirety, then goes back to frame 1 and choses the next.
I wrote this AS for my preloader which schould be able to load a movie clip after pressing a specif button in the main sceene:
[Code]....
1) The problem is that to be able to target a movieclip I will need to give it a instance name. Where can i find this function in MX ?
2) I cannot understant how I schoul put a loadBar being a small movieclip on the main timeline, I think( the same timeline the container clip is at ) or maybe not ? well I am bit confused now..
Well I have done already a sceene preloader for my site and it works perfectly and i did not experience any problems as Im having now with this new kind of preloader.
I want to load a random movie clip from the library to an empty clip on the stage called (bg_graphics). the clips in the library are called (green, blue, yellow).
I went through Claudio's preloader transition tutorial on kirupa ([URL]). I have tried to apply it to my own fla and everything seems to work fine EXCEPT I can't get any of the external swfs to load into the empty movie clip called "content". And yes, I have checked and rechecked to make sure that all MCs have instance names!
I have to find out the current frame of a movie clip which name is a variable (userName). I can get it using frame.text = Contr.Mara._currentframe; where Mara is the content of userName.
I am working on a simple flash project that has 4 movie clips that animate on their own in the main timeline with a tween, changing every 20sec. to the next clip. I have flags set up so that you can also use the buttons to go to a specific frame.[code]...
var ribbonMC:MovieClip = new MovieClip(); addChild(ribbonMC);
On the main timeline I have another MC which loads a DataGrid mcomponent.I have a ListEvent.ITEM_CLICK attached the DataGrid. When a row is clicked, I want to replace the ribbonMC clip I created with a different MC.However, no matter what I do I cannot seem to properly remove the clip and add it to the main timeline in its place.I have tried getChildByName() in order to grab the clip:
var rmc:DisplayObject = getChildByName("ribbonMC"); (I've tried type MovieClip here too)
But all I seem to get is a null object, so it cannot be unloaded. Even if I did grab it, I cannot seem to figure out how to add my new MC to the main timeline from inside the current movie clip in any event. Since _root is no longer used in AS3.
is there anyway to have a button play frames 5-10 on a movie clip inside the current frame, as well as skipping to...lets say...frame 10 of the scene?
i want to create a site where buttons go to different pages, but those pages have animations in and out.so if someone is in one page, and clicks a button to go to another, that page plays the "out" animation while the other page plays the "in" animation.
if it is possible to load a movie clip into a blank movie clip?On my main timeline I have a button (mode_btn) and I want to be able to click it and load another movie clip (mode_options_mc) into a blank movie clip I have (mode_empty_mc). Is this even possible?
I want to add a preloader into an existing flash website file. The flash file is made of 5 layers, with one movie clip on each layer for each page of the website pages. I want to be able to put a preloader on the home page to let me viewers know that the site is not fully loaded before they start viewing the other pages (it's a portfolio site, so there are a lot of images). Can I add a preloader movie clip to appear on the home page that will loop until the entire site (all 5 frames/pages) are loaded?
I do not want to add another frame in front of the existing frames because I would have to edit 200+ portfolio frames and script.
I have very annoying and easy (I believe) problem with Macromedia Flash 8. My movie consists of 10 scenes. I wanted them to be played each after another (e.g. scene 1, scene 2, etc.).However, the scenes that consist of movie clips are just flashing and movie proceed to next scene. There is no problem with scenes that where done just in main timeline. I tried to put some action script on these movie clips like:
I have a movie clip (that includes a preloader and video elerments) that I created and made a .swf file from which I then imported in my main movie. I then place this .swf file (which is listed as a movie clip symbol in the library) onto the main timeline. I put an action to stop the main timeline at the frame where the nested movie is placed and expected to start. When previewing the movie, the nested movie doesn't play. I see the preloader (in scene 1 of the nested movie) appears for a second but the movie doesn't play.
Any specific action command needs to be define to make the nested movie play?
I have a game engine and when the player moves right, I just have a static graphic of a box with a right facing arrow. The player is a movie clip with an instance name of "char" on the main stage, inside of it is a bunch of frames with the player in different positions (ie box with up arrow, box with left arrow, etc). So when the right arrow key is pressed then "char" will go to and stop at frame 1 with the right facing arrow.
Here is my problem: When I replace this graphic of a box and arrow with another movie clip of an animation, the animation doesn't play on run time, it will just show me the first frame of the animation inside the movie clip but it won't play the rest of the movie clip. What is stopping this animation from playing?
Is there Actionscript 2 that can be put in a preloader and play only the first movie clip on the root timeline instead of all of the root's timeline (which happens using getBytesLoaded or movieclip._framesLoaded() )? I want the preloader to just load the first movie clip and let the user read this screen while the rest of the root timeline continues to download.
