ActionScript 3.0 :: Removing Random Letters From TextField

Nov 15, 2009

I'm trying to create an effect where you have a paragraph, and randomly the letters just start to disappear, but the other letters don't shift? So example:
"Hello world" does this "H ll w ld" until there are no more characters?

Generating Random Letters / Words Into MovieClips

Jan 20, 2010

I am making a game where random letters and words are generated into movieclips, thats the background. I built it using arial as my font, however I then decided to go with a fixed width font to make sizing the movieclips to the words much more straightforward. Yesterday this worked fine, the font i am using (Liberation Mono) is installed on my computer, all the textboxes which use this font have the character embedding on them, and I have not changed any of the movieclips, only non-relevant code. So I run it up again today and none of the words appear. Thinking it might be some code changes I made I go thourhg tracing out everything, only to find the wrds are being generated, and written to the textbox absolutely fine. I switch back to Arial just as a check and bang it works again.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Random Number To Textfield?

Apr 28, 2010

I'm trying to create a keypad, that when the number buttons are clicked, it will show the corresponding numbers in a textfield.

I'm also trying to get a random 6 digit number to appear in another textbox and when both the random textfield and keypad textfield are compared and found identical, it will go on to another frame.

Now! the problem is two fold:

1) the random number function isnt displaying the random number in the textfield. the text field is dynamic and called guessStringText. Heres the code im using for that..

var guessStringText:Number = getRandom(); //this is in the main fla
public function getRandom():Number { //this function is in an external AS3 file
var high:Number = 000001;
var low:Number = 999999;

[Code]....

These problems are starting to get frustrating lol. I feel as if I'm hitting my head off a brick wall. Every time i find a new way to try writing the code it still doesn't work.

Oct 27, 2011

I have a game where i add some cartoonish ants, that when they are clicked, they need to be removed from stage. There are 4 differend kinds of ants, so im doing a Math.random for picking which one to add. (ant 1+2+3 have 50% chance to spawn and 4th 50%)

Code:

I have a timer doing 10 tick, and i reset the timer to make neverending. Then i have a math random and if sentences adding mc' to the stage with movement from Tweener, and event listeners for clicks. But i cant figure out how to remove them when clicked. I have done alot of failed tries right inside the click_candy_anty function. I've left them commented out.

var ant_index:Array = new Array(10);//index for ants
var ant_number:int;

AS3 :: Flash - Catching Uppercase Letters

Aug 10, 2011

I know how to catch usual lowercase letters. I'm using KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN and compare the code to the ASCII table to find out which key was pressed. Now, I also want to be able to find out if there is, for example SHIFT+A pressed, and I have no idea how to implement this. I mean, in my program SHIFT and A are absolutely different keys which have nothing to do with each other, and they both will call KeyboardEvents when pressed. In Georgian alphabet some letters are typed by combination of SHIFT and English letters, for example W on Georgian keyboard means წ, when SIFT+W means ჭ. Absolutely different letters, as you can see. And I want to be able to catch both, coz I'm currently developing Georgian-language game.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Getting The First Letters From A String Of Words?

Jan 18, 2005

For a rather complex search function I need to get the first letter of each word entered into an input field. At first glance this may not seem like a big problem if every word is neatly seperated by a space.

Although people can enter whatever they want into the field I only want to work with the words that start with a-z or A-Z.

I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how I can determine if a character in the string falls into this selection. One of the possibilities is to use charCodeAt(), but that's rather rough. I can walk through the string using indexOf() but I may have trouble finding the next word if characters other than a space come into play.
