ActionScript 3.0 :: Rotating Billboard Concept Discussion - National Geographic Design?
May 25, 2010
I have been charged with creating a rotating billboard for our new company website and I am in the conceptual phase of design.Everyone in the office likes the functionality of the National Geographic home billboard... with its automatic rotating images, pause functionality, and content launching frames.So far I have correctly mirrored the functionality of the National Geographic billboard by physically embedding images into a flash movie and creating mouse click events for buttons and the images themselves.
Design Question:Can Flash emulate the National Geographic presentation? Their images are called upon request, rather than being embedded into a large single movie file like mine. This would allow a non programmer to design a new image billboard and update the website remotely...
Is it possible for flash to somehow detect your geographic location? Perhaps with the use of IP addresses or something? If anyone has any example code, I would love to see it!
I am trying to make a billboard within a flash website.The billboard is on a wall of the image on the main stage. The billboard has been converted into a movie clip symbol, and within that symbol are several pictures. I want the billboard to transition from one image to the next,then back to the top and start again using the Blinds transition. I am able to get the first image to transition, but it stops there All of my images have been converted into a movie clip symbol, bb, bb2, ect.[code]
I'm working on my own buttons. It uses a dynamic TextField, and there's an issue that I can't figure out.
Used font is Lucida Sans Unicode, I exported this to the library, checking "Export for Actionscript..." in dialog window when exporting. Unfortunately, this exported font doesn't display my national chars - I'm from Poland and need letters like "Ĺ‚" or "Ĺ›". They are in this font, but became unavailable after export.
Button photo (prepared "manually" before, looks the same, but text is without "Ĺ‚"):
My code:
protected function prepareShape():void { isActive = false; bgMatrix = new Matrix();
Im trying to make an ad that has a national debt moving up. You have seen them right, 11 trillion and counting. Im trying to do something similar, it would be great to import a flash ticker, but the prob is that they usually have a link to their site, and that is something I don't want. Another way is just to mimic the ticker, but is there a .fla or actionscript, with that I can start a dynamic number at 11 trillion, and just have it count UP?
I've been scouring the net trying to find a code that I can use to create a "Ticker" feature for my site. Think of the US national debt ticker. Basically I'm looking to create a counter that will start at 0 and increase a certain number every second. This will represent a monetary figure so it would need to add "," in the necessary space as the number increases. I'll have a number of different variables that will make certain pages increase in value more quickly then others...
I'm developing a library + workflow for easy (hierarchical) navigation management inside website or application. From popular - can be somehow compared with Gaia Framework and PageManager from Soma Framework (I do personally don't like these implementations because they quite limit development even if they say they don't). I used to develop website so that each section(sub-section, sub-sub-section...) is an instance of a custom class (that extends DisplayObject: Sprite, MovieClip or whatever Flex container even), that contains logic and data in "single layer" manner... and all the view coponents aswell (texts, thumbnails, whatever).
Each of those sections is implementing INavigableObject interface and has navigationHelper (way of composition pattern), which helps with all navigation stuff. So. This approach was OK. But with my last project I felt need to use MVC design pattern, so I decided to refine my navigation stuff. And so therefore I have a question: how does hierarchy looks like when using MVC (any implementation.. custom one or any popular framework like PureMVC..) for website development?
so I'm still learning the basic concepts. Attached to a movieclip used as a button I have this actionscript:
[Code]...
Which basically causes the movieclips 'leaf1' to shrink, 'vinefade' to go to its first frame, 'artween_mc' to unload, and for all other commands on this button to be disabled. I also want it to check another movieclip called 'leaf9', and see if it's current frame is at less than a particular frame number (73), because if so I want it to start playing forward. Once it reaches this frame number (73), I want to cause linkstween_mc to become visible and hit9button (also a movieclip) to become enabled. My current script does absolutely nothing to leaf9
I'm currently reading the book Learning ActionScript 3.0 and have dificulties understanding some programing basics due to my total lack of prior programing knowledge.For example now I'm looking at this script from the book that traces a list of all display objects on the stage and their children:[code]I understand everything except one thing. When there is an object with children (DisplayObjectContainer), the function traces the object but doesn't proceed and calls itself starting all over again this time analyzing the first child of the object. And if the child also have children itself the list will branch out until there is an object without children.What I don't understand is how the function at this point knows how to return to the last parent object and continue to analyzes its other children if any.For example when the function analyzes the stage of a scene with the following content how does the function know to continue analyzing child0. To me, looking at the code, I would expect the function to exit after listing [object StaticText]. I have hard time understanding what makes the function go back to largeContainer and continues with its child0 and so on.[code]This all what the book says regarding this which is not enough for me to understand this process:the function calls itself again. passing in the object currentlybeing inspected. This concept is called recursion. A function calling itself mayseem redundant, but it can be very useful. In this case, each time the functionis called, it receives a new display object to analyze, so the function reportsthe contents of that specific display object. The result is a complete walkthroughof all display objects, no matter how many children each may have.
I have load external swf file with loader. The external swf file have animation with embeded mp3 file . when i click the btn unload the external swf file .external swf file is unload ok. But Problam is after few seconds sound is hearing. I think animation still running in backend when reach the first frame sound is hearing.
var ldr:Loader=new Loader()ldr.load(new URLRequest("test.swf")) addChild(ldr) btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,unloadmovie) function unloadmovie(e:MouseEvent){ ldr.unload() SoundMixer.stopAll() }
i want to make a e-magazines,and i want to create with a flip book concept with flash... can i learn about this? where can i find the tutorial about this?
i am quite newbie towards to actionscript 2.0 cos i am now learning on actionscript 2.0 here is the file attachment for you to check.Greetings.zipOutput cannot be worked.I am hoping to see the exact output:Greeting = Hello!Salutation = undefinedSubject: Brick Oven
I'm dabbling in OOP, but I'm nowhere near proficient yet. I have two classes, house() and town(). In house's constructor, I want to define an exit from the house to town. I've set up a Doors and Exits array in the base class, and in house, I add town to it:
Doors = new Array(new trigger()); Exits = new Array(new town());
This way, I can check if the player is colliding with the trigger, and if so, I can set level to Exits[i] or wherever it is. My problem is, including Exits = new Array(new town()); in house's constructor calls town's constructor, and town has an array Exits, which leads back to house and so on. So my question is: How would I get around this problem or structure my level class? Is it possible to use "town" to get to new town(); without manually checking if("town"){ new town(); } etc. Basically, I want to tell flash to create a new town() WHEN I need it, not necessarily during the initial construction, but I don't want to have to manually call "new town();"
I have a rotating menu that sets the selected button to the 3:00 position once clicked. I need the labels for the buttons to stay in the upright position as they rotate with the button. I have attached an image. Anyone know of an action script that would keep the labels upright?
i'm trying to create a game that has a similar concept as Dance Dance Revolution - if shown is a down arrow then press down, if up arrow is shown then press up ...i'm having problems with the "if shown is a ... arrow" part - i managed to get pressed key check working, so if you press the correct key you'll progress but if you press the wrong one the appropriate action will execute.
in frame 1 i have the movieclip that contains the arrow display with the following code:
onClipEvent(keyDown){ if (_global.x = "up") { if (Key.isDown(Key.UP)){ gotoAndStop("down");
[code]....
looks ok to me, but when i tested by changing the if condition for the mc action to if (_global.x = "down") the thing still executed as if _global.x = "up" .
I've been trying to teach myself flash for a couple of weeks and am totally lost. I have had experience with programming in the past, so I understand logic, etc, but I really am not grasping this forced time based system.What I need to do seems pretty simple. I have a jpg of a washing machine front panel. I need to be able to put some transparent "buttons" over it, and have some areas "light up" when the buttons are pressed. So far I understand that I have to work in a chronological setup, with key frames for each state of interaction, and use buttons with some kind of gotoframe action script. what I can't do:
1. get the background jpg to stick to the stage. it apparently has to be either a symbol or a layer?
2. make transparent buttons. in flash catalyst I can just set the opacity to 0, but I'm not sure how to do this in flash pro.
I guess those are the pressing issues. I had tried to import the jpg as a psd background, but then I had to put the button on a separate layer, and it was always either behind the background, or I had to have it's action refer only to the timeline of it's own layer and not the background.
Background: I've been coding in VIM/C++/OpenGL for a long time.I've come to realize that this (VIM/C++/OpenGL) isn't the way to learn about programming fancy/cool-looking/futuristic UIs; and that the design of such UIs belongs more so in the artistic/designer world of Flash.
Anyway, I currently have a machine with MacOSX. What software should I install? What book should I read to learn about the artistic/design side of these futuristic UIs? [It's okay if the tools to design them are mouse clicking + graphical rather than coding based].
Question: what software packages + books to read to learn about creating fancy-looking / futuristic UIs in flash?
I'm currently enrolled in liberal arts college, but I'm quite sure that game design is what I want to do with my life. I want to someday manage production and hopefully design my own engine. What summer programs should I be looking into? What books should I read? What particular skills should I be learning?
Does anyone know which programs work best together with flash for importing graphics that are vector based. I need to know what program a graphic designer should use, so the programmer (me) can easily import the design into flash without much fuss. I know that illustrator is kind of good, but i heard that you could also use indesign.If you know of any limitations or little quirks one has to watch while exporting importing to / from flash or illustrator, had a problem with an illustrator file once that used many effects, it crashed my flash ide durring import.
s there a possible issue in the way the button is made not coded?I am using Flash CS4. My buttons seem not to work. I do not think issue is in the action script (I am scripting in 3.0).Here is the way I make the button. I add a movie clip on the stage on the over state ( so if you were to double click on that movie clip a new time line would open), at the end of that movie clip there is a simple stop(); code on its own line. I do not add extra frame on the over state.Then I assign the code to the button and of course cross reference its name in the properties and everything is matching up. Just in case here is my code:
floralyte_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClickFloraLytePopUp); function onClickFloraLytePopUp(event:MouseEvent) :void { gotoAndStop("61"); }
All of my buttons work fine through the Up, Over, Down, HIt stages without the problem. The functionality works fussy, some of them I have to click twice to go to the specified frame with the UILoader, some do not work at all and some work.I double checked and all of them seem to be done identical.
I am looking to learn Actionscript 3 but have not been able to find the best way to do this. I have knowledge with HTML and CSS and have used Flash to create simple web banners, etc., but I want to get into more advanced Flash design and use Actionscript. I have looked through books but they all seem to require some knowledge of programming already. What is the best way for someone who has no programming experience to begin to learn Actionscript? Is there a specific book someone can recommend, or training course or a person who does 1-on-1 training?
I am doing some academic research on Flash and I would like to find what is Flash the most used for, or what it is the best at, in designing web sites. I would need some quantitative figures, charts, stats to illustrate this research. I have found many websites presenting the Flash player penetration but I am looking at the actual use of Flash (in video, animation, User Interaction, ...). For example, "96% of the video on the web is displayed with Flash (3% JS, 1% HTML5 video tag, ...)" ; or "vector graphics are mostly created with Flash, rather with SVG or JS".
I'm trying to put together a Product Features Application, which allows visitors to our Website to view what their product will look like with add-on products via a simple checklist, and image layering platform. So essentially:
- Visitor see's the main Product (Fireplace) on Website Page- Visitor sees three Lists containing Checkboxes below the main image- Visitor clicks one checkbox from each list, and sees that ADD-ON product added to the main image above (so that they can view what the product will look like). I'm using CS4, and I'm slightly new to Flash.
