Professional :: Statistics On The Use Of Flash In Web Design?
Jul 27, 2010
I am doing some academic research on Flash and I would like to find what is Flash the most used for, or what it is the best at, in designing web sites. I would need some quantitative figures, charts, stats to illustrate this research. I have found many websites presenting the Flash player penetration but I am looking at the actual use of Flash (in video, animation, User Interaction, ...). For example, "96% of the video on the web is displayed with Flash (3% JS, 1% HTML5 video tag, ...)" ; or "vector graphics are mostly created with Flash, rather with SVG or JS".
I am looking to design and add an interactive flash part to our company's website. Since we do a lot of business planning and consulting, we have come up with a great idea, but unfortunately, none of us really know how to create it. Basically from what I have researched, I will need to incorporate animated buttons in a flash movie. I have attached a quick sketch of what the website will look like. The part I need to work with is the middle section with the boxes.
What I need to do is this: The 5 gray boxes need to be buttons that link to their related pages. When the page loads, I want the animation to draw the first box, create the line, draw the second box, draw the next line, etc. until all the boxes and lines are drawn. This is a process map and since we do a lot of these for our work, we thought it would be nice for us to incorporate this into our website. Furthermore, it would be ideal if these boxes were links to different pages on the site as well.
So my question is this: -What do I need to create in order to have this animation work -Where is a good place to start looking in regards to creating something like this -Is this even possible
I am trying to learn Flash Professional from the CS5 Design Premium programs. I have the Adobe CS5 Design Premium Digital Classroom to go along with the programs. One of the classroom projects is to add TLF text to your graphics. But it doesn't work. I can get the Classic Text to work but this is no use to other lessons when most refer to the TLF text. Even one lesson file you open has the completed work that you are to refer to and the text is not showing up in it. I have Windows 7, Flashplayer 10, and ActionScript 3.0.
My flash design crashes! I published everytime I finished few steps. First few publications in html/ swf were okay, but after a few new steps the things all went wrong: the button went missing, the whole did not stop at frame1 as in my action script, some of the images went missing. I then deleted new steps hoping to get the thing back to normal, but it remained. After every futile effort I did (restarted pc, republished, saved as...), I suspected that there are BUGS whether in flash or in my pc, I did an experiment by simply creating a new layer and inserting an image in the layer, I published, and this time all the images has gone!
I'm working on a project for a website, I need to display statistics in a flash video, and as easy as it sounds, I can't get it to work. Basically, I need some text to fade in, and the actual number to count up [from zero to the number]. I managed to get it semi-working, but I can't get the numbers to fade in. I didn't know if there was any easy way to do this without doing it frame by frame.
On my old computer (Windows XP) I was using Flashpaper to convert jpg files to swf files that can be panned and zoomed. It worked great for my website. Here is an example. [URL] I just purchased Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Premium for my new computer (Windows 7). I was told that it included the ability of Flashpaper to create the pan/zoom swf files. I can't find this ability. Please tell me where it is located or that I need to purchase Flashpaper for my new computer. Please note, I use Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver, but the only Flash I use is the swf to pan and zoom via Flashpaper. Please keep this in mind when answering my question, i.e. I probably need specifics if the functionality is located in Flash.
I'm trying to put together a Product Features Application, which allows visitors to our Website to view what their product will look like with add-on products via a simple checklist, and image layering platform. So essentially:
- Visitor see's the main Product (Fireplace) on Website Page- Visitor sees three Lists containing Checkboxes below the main image- Visitor clicks one checkbox from each list, and sees that ADD-ON product added to the main image above (so that they can view what the product will look like). I'm using CS4, and I'm slightly new to Flash.
I am a 3D Designer and I also want to learn Flash. give me some links or books because I want to learn that code , which is behind the design. I don't know the terms, I think is actionscripting and I would like to learn from start . How to combine code with design. I can follow some tutorials and copy the code from those tutorials but like this I will never learn to make what I want.
I have a flash site, it has lets say 5 pages in the menu.I want to be able to set up a statistics page (visible only to me), that when say the "contacts button" is clicked it adds to a PHP hit counter. So i can then see what pages on my site are the most viewed etc.
I've recently picked up the opportunity to develop a simple little application for a company that makes cupcake wedding cakes. They want to be able to take a laptop to a client and sit with them to design the look of the cakes - colour, topping, etc. End result is a saved written preference, along with an image of their design. I've assumed Flash is the best bet for something like this. Although I've dabbled in Flash and have experience in coding, I've yet to pick it up fully. The version I have is Flash MX. I've assumed I could create a movieclip representing a single cake, that is then replicated over the stack of cakes? A simple set of options on a side panel would let the user pick colour, amount, etc. Firstly, will Flash (MX) let me save out a 'screengrab' of the movie as something that could then be saved to, say, a JPG? And I assume that writing the variable choices to something like a text file would be no problem..
I am looking for a tutorial that will show me how to create an online 'design & print' service. ie the app has say 3 text areas / 3 image areas / drawings areas and a seperate controls to rotate the text and images etc. I then need to export the data as a vector for digital printing.
Is there a possible issue in the way the button is made not coded? I am using Flash CS4. My buttons seem not to work. I do not think issue is in the action script (I am scripting in 3.0). Here is the way I make the button. I add a movie clip on the stage on the over state ( so if you were to double click on that movie clip a new time line would open), at the end of that movie clip there is a simple stop(); code on its own line. I do not add extra frame on the over state. Then I assign the code to the button and of course cross reference its name in the properties and everything is matching up. Just in case here is my code:
I'm not creating a application to create a business card. I'm creating a static design which I'll probably export as an image and take to a printer. I just feel most comfortable using Flash for this at this point. The design looks good in Flash CS5 but when I export it, it's too small.I measured a physical card as 87mm x 49mm so I made the stage that size, using millimeters.
I exported the design as a PNG, printed it, and it comes out as 66mm x 37mm - the correct proportions but it's about 75% of the size I want! I tried publishing the design and opened the HTML in a browser but it still comes out looking small.
I am new to Flash, and am working on developing an iOS app.I have my first basic app running. My question is, how do I change the style of my TextInput at design time?I see how to do it in code, but I am hoping that I wont have to have a bunch of extra code, justto set the styles of the inputs.
I want to get information about: How many FMS connections are there in total? How many connections to a specific stream are there in total? How many online FMS user are there?
We need to record and display daily/weekly/monthly statistics on vod application usage, we are working with multiple application and need statistics for each one of them individually parameters required are bandwidth, number of connection, view time ...
I'm using Amazon CloudFront in connection with Adobe Flash Media Server to live stream an event using HTTP streaming. How can I get basic stream statistics, including number of viewers?
I have two components (lets call them A and B) which have normal inspectable properties (e.g. NAME and AGE) which allow you to enter values via the component inspector. When I type the value for NAME in component B (via the component inspector) I communicate via a singleton class and store this value in a NON INSPECTABLE property located in component When I run the movie, I want to access this non inspectable property within component A; however, it is always null - the value will not persist from design time to runtime. I check that the value is set at design time by tracing the A's non inspectable property once component B has set it - and it does indeed work, so I know component B has managed to set the correct value in A.
I have been working on a charting flex document listing repository statistics for work and it can be seen here -http [url]...orialJorum.swf Unfortunately,my hard drive died last week and the MXML source files were wiped(I know I should have backed it up). As I cant really afford paying $80 to decompile to get the MXML script, I wondered if anyone could do it for me as I put many hours into that piece of work. I have tried using the demo version of SWF Decompiler and Trillix but unfortunately they only give you the component code and not the <script/>
I want to make a Flash app that will scroll text whilst music plays. The music part is easy, but scrolling the text...I've tried simply importing ALL of the text, resizing, and scrolling that one giant object upwards, but when the screen was full of text it began to slow down. I need the speed uniform to sync it with the music in the background.
I could have a 70,000,000,000 frame movie and move each element individually, avoiding the heavy load, but the amount of work on my end this would require would be so astronomical that it just wouldn't be worth it. Ideally I want something like a component that I can dump text into and have it deal with making the scroll speed uniform.
It would also be a major plus point if it could be used/created by another program, so that someone without Adobe Flash could produce a similiar kind of movie simply by putting in their text and MP3 file and hitting a "Generate" button.
I've been trying to teach myself flash for a couple of weeks and am totally lost. I have had experience with programming in the past, so I understand logic, etc, but I really am not grasping this forced time based system. What I need to do seems pretty simple. I have a jpg of a washing machine front panel. I need to be able to put some transparent "buttons" over it, and have some areas "light up" when the buttons are pressed. So far I understand that I have to work in a chronological setup, with key frames for each state of interaction, and use buttons with some kind of gotoframe action script. what I can't do:
1. get the background jpg to stick to the stage. it apparently has to be either a symbol or a layer?
2. make transparent buttons. in flash catalyst I can just set the opacity to 0, but I'm not sure how to do this in flash pro.
I guess those are the pressing issues. I had tried to import the jpg as a psd background, but then I had to put the button on a separate layer, and it was always either behind the background, or I had to have it's action refer only to the timeline of it's own layer and not the background.
Background: I've been coding in VIM/C++/OpenGL for a long time.I've come to realize that this (VIM/C++/OpenGL) isn't the way to learn about programming fancy/cool-looking/futuristic UIs; and that the design of such UIs belongs more so in the artistic/designer world of Flash.
Anyway, I currently have a machine with MacOSX. What software should I install? What book should I read to learn about the artistic/design side of these futuristic UIs? [It's okay if the tools to design them are mouse clicking + graphical rather than coding based].
Question: what software packages + books to read to learn about creating fancy-looking / futuristic UIs in flash?
Does anyone know which programs work best together with flash for importing graphics that are vector based. I need to know what program a graphic designer should use, so the programmer (me) can easily import the design into flash without much fuss. I know that illustrator is kind of good, but i heard that you could also use indesign. If you know of any limitations or little quirks one has to watch while exporting importing to / from flash or illustrator, had a problem with an illustrator file once that used many effects, it crashed my flash ide durring import.
I am looking to learn Actionscript 3 but have not been able to find the best way to do this. I have knowledge with HTML and CSS and have used Flash to create simple web banners, etc., but I want to get into more advanced Flash design and use Actionscript. I have looked through books but they all seem to require some knowledge of programming already. What is the best way for someone who has no programming experience to begin to learn Actionscript? Is there a specific book someone can recommend, or training course or a person who does 1-on-1 training?
I've got in over my head trying to learn programming, but love it.How would you teach a designer to migrate from design to object oriented programming?
My interest is AS3 in Flash IDE, but any advice is welcome. Looking for a full explanation.
I'm looking to get some good books on design patterns and I'm wondering what particular pattern you'd recommend for a Realtime Strategy Game (like Starcraft), MVC?. I'd like to make a basic RTS in Flash at some point and I want to start studying the best pattern for this.
So I have this project I'm working on and I'm trying to build the website part of my project. I have experience with Flash AS3, but not so much or none with JavaScript. My co-workers are telling me that they are almost the same and you can just build the site in JavaScript. But people can have JavaScript turned off, and not everyone uses Flash.
I'm having difficulty knowing what to use to build my website...by the way, this website is generally an application. It's going to have a menu with features and stuff. I figured I can probably do HTML and PHP, but there's some features I need that will be dynamic. I really want this site to be available to as many people as possible.
Just curious. TweenLite/TweenMax is a very common animation library, and I was wondering how someone would classify the design pattern used in TweenLite. For those of you unfamiliar, here's some example code from their website:[code]
