May 25, 2010I have been charged with creating a rotating billboard for our new company website and I am in the conceptual phase of design.Everyone in the office likes the functionality of the National Geographic home billboard... with its automatic rotating images, pause functionality, and content launching frames.So far I have correctly mirrored the functionality of the National Geographic billboard by physically embedding images into a flash movie and creating mouse click events for buttons and the images themselves.
Design Question:Can Flash emulate the National Geographic presentation? Their images are called upon request, rather than being embedded into a large single movie file like mine. This would allow a non programmer to design a new image billboard and update the website remotely...

Jan 29, 2011Searching for "8kHz" yielded two results but doesn't show the search result titles or the links to get to the post, though it does show links to the forum itself and the user who posted the result. Same results no matter what I searched for, though if I initiate the search initially from the top level Forum, the search results work as expected.

Aug 1, 2010I'm brand new to Flash (and game programming, really), but want to learn a bit of it. My overall learning project is to create a Monopoly clone in Flash. nfortunately, I'm struggling to get over even my first hurdle-how to create the board graphically, and how then to deal with it in the code. So far, my thoughts are to break the board down into the different sizes of tiles (the normal property ones, the corner 4 and a large one for the middle section), then somehow place these all in the correct position relative to each other and keep that positioning correct as the pieces (and thus the camera view) move about the board.
Is this a good approach, or is there a better one? where I can find a tutorial specifically on creating board games in Flash (any sort really, wouldn't have to be Monopoly but just a game that has a board which tokens move across - and preferably which has to pan as well).
Also, as an aside, is there any way to have a dynamically coloured rectangle in a flash MovieClip (like you can have dynamic textboxs)? I ask because it would be useful if there was, as I could generate every property tile with just one MovieClip which took a name, a value and a colour...

I want to create like my own lash forum People fill in a form, and after submitting, the submitted text will appear immediately on the flash forum. The lash foru will automatically build up posts for others to browse. Will this be possible in flash? Can I also number the posts?

I'm trying to search for "Flashthusiast.com" in the Flash section, but all I get is a bunch of icons in the left column with a second column that says: "in Flash". No subject line, nothing. Is this a bug? Or, am I seeing something different than others?
Anyhow, when reading about creating in Flash in the user manual, I'm referred to Flashthusiast.com for sample AS3 code for button behaviors, but Norton Internet Explorer classify that site as dangerous. Has anyone visited it recently?? Why would Abode refer me to that site if it is dangerous?

Sep 29, 2010I know this is a subject that gets covered a lot as i have found a ton of tutorials that show a million different ways to create a high scores board on a flash game. So I decided to go out on a limb and pick a tutorial out to try. Well I have now tried 3 different ones and have yet to get a working high scores board with my game. [URL]
That is the link to the most recent attempts to creat my high scores board. When I finished everything the way the tutorial said it seemed like everything would work and then it just didnt. After spending oh about 40 plus hours trying to make a high scores board I am getting very frustrated. My game is scripted in AS2 and I have access to mysql and can set up unlimited databases.

Sep 10, 2009I recently made a .swf file which is hosted here [URL] as you can see the hyperlinks work fine and go to the correct sites. My question and impass is that whenever I post this same file as a forum signature it works fine but when I click on the hyperlinks they don't bring up the websites they act like they are dead.
btw the hyperlinks are just Text that I changed to Dynamic text with urls.
Flash :: Achieve A Smooth Painted Curve For A White Board App?
Feb 23, 2010I'm building a simple white board app in ActionScript 3. Most white board or painting apps in ActionScript tend to use an interval, timer, mouseMove event, or enterFrame event to track the mouse position and paint lines or brushes in between the tracked points.
What I'm trying to achieve is the nice smooth painted line that a program like Photoshop can render while painting with the brush tool. In Photoshop, no matter how fast you move the mouse around the canvas, the painted lines always end up with a nice smooth curved edge. In my app, using any of the methods mentioned prior, there is always latency between the function calls that render the brush to the stage. Thus, using any of those techniques can result in a sharp cornered line when moving the mouse very quickly in a circular manner.
This is no surprise to me, I just have no idea how I could achieve a smoother line like Photoshop's brush tool. Mind you, the brushes for my app are mostly based on shapes and do not or cannot use the drawing API to draw continues lines. In other words, graphics.curveTo() is not an option. I am also rendering the Sprites or Shapes generated by the brushes to a BitmapData instance.

Dec 7, 2010I am developing a web based multi-player board game and wondering what the best language for the UI would be? Its a board game similar to Go but a lot simpler.I have two options flash or the much touted HTML5 with JS. I have to learn both though I have basic knowledge of JS.The problem with flash is I have to pay for the server component but the UI development could be easier and have a richer look and feel to it. With HTML5 + JS there is no cost involved but the UI development I feel will be clunky and not smooth. This I am not sure.

For example, if there is input in three out of five of the boxes and there is a selection in the dropdown, then the progress bar would be 4/6 full.
