Actionscript 3 :: Representing A Monopoly Board In Flash?

Aug 1, 2010

I'm brand new to Flash (and game programming, really), but want to learn a bit of it. My overall learning project is to create a Monopoly clone in Flash. nfortunately, I'm struggling to get over even my first hurdle-how to create the board graphically, and how then to deal with it in the code. So far, my thoughts are to break the board down into the different sizes of tiles (the normal property ones, the corner 4 and a large one for the middle section), then somehow place these all in the correct position relative to each other and keep that positioning correct as the pieces (and thus the camera view) move about the board.

Is this a good approach, or is there a better one? where I can find a tutorial specifically on creating board games in Flash (any sort really, wouldn't have to be Monopoly but just a game that has a board which tokens move across - and preferably which has to pan as well).

Also, as an aside, is there any way to have a dynamically coloured rectangle in a flash MovieClip (like you can have dynamic textboxs)? I ask because it would be useful if there was, as I could generate every property tile with just one MovieClip which took a name, a value and a colour...

Xml :: Representing Nested Folders As DisplayObjects

Apr 21, 2011

I'm working on a world builder that will load a toolkit which is represented by an xml document. The document will look similar to the following:[code]Now, I want to be able to represent this structure in flash. Vertical layout is easy enough, simply placing the elements from top to bottom. It gets mind-boggling when I need to do the following:Be able to click any folder and have all its children hidden/shown.Position the elements horizontally based on hierarchical position (indent children of folders, children of the child folders, etc)Position the folders/tools vertically when folders above and in the same "directory" are hidden.It either sounds a lot easier than it is, or I'm missing a vital and obvious step.Just to save confusion - when I make reference to "folders" and "tools", these are a MovieClip which is a simple block with text over it, like:[code]

ActionScript 3.0 :: Representing 3D Objects - Processing Power?

May 20, 2010

I'm making a 3D program and I've already made the back end which calculates where each object's polygons should be. However, I can't seem to find a quick way of drawing them without having to remove and redraw them each time, which I'm sure would take a lot of processing power, knowing the way that Flash does things. So is there a way to draw a shape (a quad in this example) and then alter the shape's color and the position of all of its corners in the next frame without taking a huge load of processing power? I would really like to be able to do this to at least 20 polygons, hopefully more, within the span of one frame at 20 fps.

ActionScript 3.0 :: No Faceleft Position In Any Of Numbers Representing Frames

I'm having a problem that is kind of hard to explain. I have a player character on the stage and a player class controlling the character. He moves right responding the the keyboard input fine, but when he moves left, the character has to face right for one sequence during the animation. There is no faceleft position in any of the numbers representing frames in the array controlling the walk left animation so I don't know why the player character is doing this. Here's some of the code I am using.[code]

Example:
Note_1 + Note_4 + Note_2 + Note_5 + Note_3 = Animation_movie

ActionScript 1/2 :: Flash Game High Scores Board

Sep 29, 2010

I know this is a subject that gets covered a lot as i have found a ton of tutorials that show a million different ways to create a high scores board on a flash game. So I decided to go out on a limb and pick a tutorial out to try. Well I have now tried 3 different ones and have yet to get a working high scores board with my game. [URL]

That is the link to the most recent attempts to creat my high scores board. When I finished everything the way the tutorial said it seemed like everything would work and then it just didnt. After spending oh about 40 plus hours trying to make a high scores board I am getting very frustrated. My game is scripted in AS2 and I have access to mysql and can set up unlimited databases.

Flash :: Achieve A Smooth Painted Curve For A White Board App?

Feb 23, 2010

I'm building a simple white board app in ActionScript 3. Most white board or painting apps in ActionScript tend to use an interval, timer, mouseMove event, or enterFrame event to track the mouse position and paint lines or brushes in between the tracked points.

What I'm trying to achieve is the nice smooth painted line that a program like Photoshop can render while painting with the brush tool. In Photoshop, no matter how fast you move the mouse around the canvas, the painted lines always end up with a nice smooth curved edge. In my app, using any of the methods mentioned prior, there is always latency between the function calls that render the brush to the stage. Thus, using any of those techniques can result in a sharp cornered line when moving the mouse very quickly in a circular manner.

This is no surprise to me, I just have no idea how I could achieve a smoother line like Photoshop's brush tool. Mind you, the brushes for my app are mostly based on shapes and do not or cannot use the drawing API to draw continues lines. In other words, graphics.curveTo() is not an option. I am also rendering the Sprites or Shapes generated by the brushes to a BitmapData instance.

Javascript :: Language To Choose For A Board Game (flash Or HTML5)?

Dec 7, 2010

I am developing a web based multi-player board game and wondering what the best language for the UI would be? Its a board game similar to Go but a lot simpler.I have two options flash or the much touted HTML5 with JS. I have to learn both though I have basic knowledge of JS.The problem with flash is I have to pay for the server component but the UI development could be easier and have a richer look and feel to it. With HTML5 + JS there is no cost involved but the UI development I feel will be clunky and not smooth. This I am not sure.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Making A Score Board?

Aug 3, 2004

in my preloader i made a game, the game plays then has AS that if SPACE is pressed then if will play a winning scene, and if it is not then it will continue on to play the lossing scene, so my AS is like the clip is running then AS<

on (press, keyPress "<Space>") {
gotoAndPlay(30);
}

so if u press space it will run the good clip if u dont then it will continue running and hit my AS that Gotoandplays (105) which is the lossing squence then it replays this.... So i want to make a counter for this game, a kind of Score board so i made a Dynamic Text Box and i made the var "total" so my new AS is...

on (press, keyPress "<Space>") {
gotoAndPlay(30);
_root.total = _root.total+100;
}

So it will add 100 to the score when u succsefully press space in adition to makeing the sucess clip play! But it dosnt work...i dont know why it doesnt, ive tried so many things to make it work...I tested my scrpit with buttons like

On (release) {
_root.total = _root.total+100;
}

And the buttons work but not this! why not!

ActionScript 3.0 :: Swapping Tiles From Board (9 Frames)

Dec 29, 2009

I create a board using the class Baldosa (which is a tile on my .fla file with 9frames, each is a tile of a different color). I first create and array of numbers which indicates which frame (color) the baldosa element will display. As grey baldosas are more than the other colors (this is intended), then I unsort the array to avoid grey baldosas accumulating on the right side of the board. Then I push each baldosa in an array, and add each of them as child of the contenedorBaldosas(container) to avoid adding events for each Baldosa.

The problem comes when I want to check collisions. If there's a collision, I swap positions of each Baldosa. It only works if I swap the tile at depth number 0 and the last at depth 79, for the rest of Baldosas, it doesn't detect any collision (the baldosa clicked will return to its original position as nothing had happened. I made a trace and it seems the baldosa clicked doesnt collide with another baldosa in the array (each baldosa is given the name baldosaxx using the variable in the for loop), but rather an unnamed instancexxxx.

Also I'm treating the baldosa elements as Sprites, but as the baldosa in my .fla is a MovieClip, and it contains a Timeline where each frame is a baldosa of a different color, the problem may be also here.
package {
import flash.display.*;

ActionScript 3.0 :: Score Board For A Game Show?

Then every time I press for example the left arrow key the left score must increase by the value of 1 and when I press the right arrow key the left score must decrease by 1.Same goes for the right score only with differant keys example up and down keys. This sounds very simple and I managed to get it to work when I tested with only 1 score, but failed when adding the second score to the picture.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Make A Loop Sound Board?

Sep 16, 2010

I have spent the last four hours trying to work this out, using a number of different tutorials and always running into roadblocks in one form or another.

I'm using Flash CS3 with Action Script 2.0 enabled.

Essentially, I want to be able to make individual buttons to play in one frame on the main timeline that turn on and off simple loops that I've made.

I have a video of a man dancing, and I want to give the user the ability to press nine buttons and activate each loop to play over the video.

- I need each loop to be able to layer - so, each button controls only it's own loop - giving the user the ability to compose the music that the dancer is moving to.

The way I though I would do this would be to make a single button for each loop, that when clicked played the loop, and then when clicked again muted that single loop, and then when clicked, played it again and so forth.

- I have the nine loops cut up and in the library, but I don't know how to program this.

Additionally, I would really prefer the loops to not be playing, and for the user to have the chance to build the piece of music around the dancer.
