ActionScript 3.0 :: Showing Alpha / Gradient In Text

We need to show transparency (around 70%) in the text in textarea and other components in Flex 3.5 SDK. I checked up and found these: I could use an embeded font (only ttf) and make it transparent. Now as per client requirement we have to use different sizes of Verdana only. Even If I download Verdana font in ttf format then how will I make it transparent? Using gradient boxes around the text - I found a link but this seems a heavy procedure.

I want to mask an object which will contain text and images. I want the mask to be feathered at the bottom end, for a nice smooth effect when it animates into place. For my masking object, I've created a movie clip with a gradient, using a matrix fill. When I apply the mask, it works, but only as a rectangle. The feathered area (the grey bit) still masks completely. I'm stumped with this one. I've searched around for an explanation, but can't get it to work. Does anyone know of any examples of this working?

Im using a movie clip to mask out another movieclip(layer).This works fine with below code:
maskee.cacheAsBitmap = true;
maskMC.cacheAsBitmap = true;
maskee.setMask("maskMC");
but when that swf is imported into a container in my main movie the masking does not work.

Is it possible to get a 'feathered' mask in Flash CS4 where the edges of the mask gradually transition to 0 alpha? I tried to set this up by creating drawing a shape with the pen tool, turning into a movieclip, then filling the original outline with a white (or lime green) center to black on outside, with the outside fading to an alpha value of zero. When I apply this as a mask, however, the borders are completely sharp rather than the layer below being 'partially' masked.

Is it possible to create gradient text with text in a text field, without using a different object?
I have three text fields sitting right next to each other, to create a row. Some times the text is longer than the width of the text field, I don't want to widen the the text field to make it fit, I just want to fade the last 20 - 50 pixels of the text out.
Is this possible to do without using an object above it, such as a gradient?

As far as I know theres in no way to cahnge the alpha of a dynamic text box. I put one in a movie clip and when i try to change the alpha of it everything else in it changes its alpha but the not the DT box. Could someone plz verify for me that u can't change alpha and help me find a component that allows alpha control with a dynamic text box. thx in advance.

I'm trying to create spinning rays in actionscript to use in my website.Below is the rough idea of what i'm trying to create.Is it possible to create absolutely with 0 images.Following is the actionscript code in which i couldn't figure out how to add gradient, transperant background and little radial gradient to create glow effect.

I've a flash template and the variables are editable in XML files. I need to define a gradient on dynamic text, Here's the code in the flash actionscript that i think it's linking to xml:

The title & copyright text of my animation don't show up in the swf unless I break up the words to letters then to shapes. (This also occurs for the feedback of one of my games.) It's a 2.5 minute animation which puts my computer to the limits so that may be the problem. Obviously I'd rather not convert this text to shapes for size & flexibility reasons.

I am using flash to create an animation where text, once converted into a movieclip or a button, fades at a certain point. To do this I am using the text tool and converting the text into a movieclip.
I am trying to make the text fade away by using the alpha property, but the preview will never adjust the movieclips alpha value. I've tried embedding the font and linking it but it still just doesn't work.

I converted a static text field to a mc then thirty frames later inserted a keyframe and droped the mc's alpha to zero.. then created a motion tween between the keyframes... yet for some reason the text isnt fading when I test the movie... it works fine in the flash authoring environment as you click through the frames but it doesnt in the test movie mode.. any suggestions? ( i broke the text apart down to shapes and it worked fine, but that of course will cause indexing problems for content with google so this really isnt an option)

I just made these quick flash banners for a client but he's saying that the text isn't showing up for him.I have the banners hosted here - http:[url]...........And any idea why it wouldn't be showing up for him? I'm assuming he's running on an outdated version of Flash but I know if that's the case he's going to worry about other people being on the same outdated version he's on and they won't be able to see the text.

I have one api to call and it is an XML file. I got the values from XML and stored in an Array. I need to show the result in a text box that is already created in the stage. But it is not displaying there. I am calling the API from my document class. From there, I created a class for load XML and store the values to an array. from there, I call anoter class to show the result in the stage. that class is linked with the movieclip created. I can trace all the vlues including the value assigned to the text box. but it is not showing to the stage.

I've been trying to get a Flash-based form working - and it's 90% there. I even figured out a refresh issue with a list, and that worked perfectly. Fast foward to the final frame. I'm ready to collect all the data from the form and send it when the user clicks "Done". At current, this frame has no real defined code. The only thing on it is the standard "stop();" to prevent the movieclip from going back to the first frame.The only thing that will be displayed on the final frame is a picture and some text. This is...where everything falls apart. I created the text field, named it properly, then wrote "myField.text = "blahblah";" in the main frame. I then ran a movie test. Everything works great ... until the last frame. No text. Tried to embed.. that didn't help.. tried using the textfield variable... nothing there either. For some inexplicable reason, the final frame in my movie refuses to display anything at all except what's on the stage.

i'd like to make an effect with "alpha", but when i'm using a particular class to set the scrollbar on my text, the text does not respond to my alpha. You'll see that the text does not respond to the alpha 0 at the beginning of the tween.
Here's my code in the fla that imports another class, which imports the scrollbar class ;-) :

I'm trying to get into flash and one of my movies doesn't display all the characters I tell it to display in a dynamic text box. example:
Actionscript Code: if (day() == Saturday){tomorrow.text = "Sunday";}
and what comes out is: Suday

I can't figure out why my font (type) hasn't been showing up in my Test Movie. I tried it first along with my first scene, and it didn't work. I put the type in a second scene (now 74, don't ask) within the same file, and it still doesn't show up. I'm using a mask to make the type appear and I know from tutorials, I have it going in the correct position to reveal the type. It's clearly not showing up. Even in Test Scene, it's not showing up. I've exhausted all my experience (which isn't saying much) to try

a few months ago we bought a flash ready template that I customized with our information. I decided to update the website information and wrote new text. Now when I do the publish preview the upated text is not showing up. I have not change the font, color just the size because in the original it looked too small. when looking at the properties is shown as the default of font (the one the template came with) static text.
What is causing the updated text not to show up? I am not really experienced with flash, i am trying to figure out also how to see the code of the pages but i don't know how to do that.

1.I am getting the content from XML and showing to the text box. If the content is more than the text field size then its hide the content. Please tell me how I adjust the height of the text box according to the XML content.

I want to show a PDF in browser, from which user can select text, showing pdf is very easy i have done this using "pdfviewer" control, now i want to get the selected text which the user selects in the PDF, is there any way to achieve this?
Edit: If there is a flash/ flex solution at the client end that will as well, does anyone know about it, i tried one API, but that dint seem to work
