ActionScript 3.0 :: Signal Object That Removed Using RemoveChild Command

Here's the code I'm having trouble with:

The problem is with smallImg_mc. Later on when it is clicked, it gets removed using the removeChild(smallImg_mc) command, and my question is how do I signal it through an if statement where it says
if (smallImg_mc.visible !== false) {
setChildIndex(smallImg_mc,1);
setChildIndex(logo,1);
}
It's causing annoying output errors.

Actionscript 3 :: Button Removed With RemoveChild() Gets Re-added In It's Over State?

I have a SimpleButton on the stage, and in the click event for it, I remove it using removeChild(). When re-adding the button, it gets re-added in it's "over" state, not the "up" state as expected.

I'm pretty sure it's a bug, so I've filed a JIRA:[URL]..What I've tried: sing visible = false instead works, but I'd prefer to remove it off the stage altogether as the game I'm working on can have a lot of popups/screens. Firing the mouse_out event manually - doesn't work, and in any case, the mouse_out event fires as expected (perhaps before resetting to the up state, it makes a check to see if it's added to the stage, finds out it's not, then quits early)Resetting the stage focus - I thought it was a problem with the stage focus, as you were losing focus when the button was hidden, but resetting it didn't fix it.I could temporarily swap the over and up state when it's hidden, but that seems like an ugly fix.

I created a game using AS3...and everything works fine...but the textfield myText is not being removed when I use removeChild(mytext); ....it just displays itself on the next frame like I never removed it......what gives? It makes me want to rip my damn hair out, all my code works...except this TEXTFIELD wont disappear.I know how to use removeChild() on a basic level and use it to remove all the objects on my screen its just this damn textfield that will not go away[code].....

I have two FLV files playing on the stage. The main FLV is instance is: MyVideothe 2nd is MyVideo2I have imported the videos using the wizard. The 2nd video is just a movie I created in Affter Effects that says...loading please wait....this is a really nice video and I don't want it to just use a standard preloader. Anyway, the goal is when the playback for "MyVideo" begins I would like "Myvideo2" to = visible = false;I have tried this many different ways and have been unsuccessful. I am obviously a newb at this. Also, does anyone know where I can get a list of all available eventListener actions...etc?

I have six objects which are on the stage when my game loads up. I have stored them in an array in my Document class. Occassionaly I run through this array and check if something has hit these objects and remove them if so. i don't actually remove them from the array though. I'm finding though that even after these objects have been removed from the stage, the hittestpoint still returns true when something crosses the area where these objects once where?! Doesn't the object have to be there for hitTestPoint to return true?

I read some articles about ActionScript's weak references. There are two types.

Trick with Dictionary class.
EventDispatcher class.

I expected weakly referenced object to be disappeared immediately when last strong reference removed.(regardless of GC behavior) But those tricks didn't work like that. The object referenced only weakly still live a while, and looks disappear when next GC time.Removing all of strong references didn't make weakly referenced object to be disappeared from object graph.(I know it'll not be deleted immediately)

I have a movieclip that contains two frames, each frame contains a different set of buttons.

it seems that i cannot add the event listeners to buttons that are not in my current viewed frame.

so.. problem one: is there a way to add event listeners to all the elements in the movieclip even if the elements are in a different frame.

problem two: after I added an event listener to some elements in current frame and then I move forward to the next frame and go back to the same frame, all the event listeners are removed and i need to initialize them again. is there a way to resolve the issue without the need to re-initialize the event listeners ?

I first noticed it when this function started throwing a 1009 error:

were throwing the 1009 error. Which is wierd on two accounts. First, if I remember right, error 1009 comes about when referering to an object that is not on the stage. Which makes NO sence when getting it from an addChild! Second, this error only starts to occur the second time I use the function.

All of the bullets are of the "Bullet" class and are stored in an array called "bullets" in the main class. When bullets exit the screen, removeBullet(bulletID) in the main class is called.

In my Bullet class I have an enterFrame listener that traces "stillHere". So as soon as a bullet is added to the main stage using addChild, "stillHere" starts popping up in my output panel.

My problem is that even after I call the removeBullet, "stillHere" keeps popping up in the output panel, which tells me that the object which I tried to delete is still sticking around somewhere in the memory.

I am using removeChild() to remove a MovieClip. And via tests, I can confirm that it's working fine ( stage.contains(mc) returns false ). But the MovieClip still does not seem to be removed, as if the stage is not updated correctly.

I'm working on a project which uses timline animation. The animated objects are involved in a collision detection script.

When they collide with other objects, their timelines are told to stop() and they're removed using removeChild. At this point they have a value of null (I've tested this.)

Strangely however, they invisibly re-instantiat themselves when the timeline animation loops back to frame 1. There's no code telling them to play anywhere in the program. They still have null values, but their collsion code still affects other objects.

I think that all listeners and vars has been removed from the object but probably not because GC does not remove the object comepletly. Why object is still at its place ? Is there easy way to check what has to be removed from object so GC can collect it?

I am trying to use a huappage tv capture card as a video source for a actionscript-controlled-video object inside flash, but all it does is crashes.My tv tuner is the only image aquisition device installed in the computer, and therefore the default.When a run a blank flash movie and right click, settings, to select the webcam option, it also crashes. Obviously this works fine with a web cam, but not any one of my three different tv tuners that I have tried.Is it possible, by any means (not just getcamera) to get a tv signal inside a flash file.The code I am using:

I have a removeChild and null question. I know removeChild removes my object from the stage but stays in memory until I call null on it. My question is, if I set the object to null, do I have to removeChild it at all? For example, I have a movieclip where I addChild lots of objects to it. So If I want to completely remove all traces of said movieclip and all its children, can I just set movieClip = null, or do I have to removeChild all its children and the movieclip itself beforehand.

I'm trying to build a conditional statement that will addChild and removeChild at different Timer Delays. Before I go any further, I thought, I should mention that I'm usinig TweenMax to ease the alpha of ease Child from 1 to 0 and back during the process to imitate a fade-in/out.

I'm getting issue with only one line - inside a conditional statement.It's running "OK". The movie runs as I want it, but the remove/addChild transitions are not at the speed I want it at. I am getting an error message in the output, but other than that, the movie runs fine.

I'm missing the command to get the object height from the html page. I just want to set the original height and width to a sprite background. The object in the html is set dynamically from the server.

Also when I resize from the authoring window the background doesn't change size where:

pageBkg_mc.height=stage.height;
pageBkg_mc.width=stage.width;

I looked in the properties panel and when I clicked on the instance of the movie clip the option to set the size was disabled. Not sure why. So I deleted the instance and put it in a new fla. The options were enabled. Then I went back to my old fla and dropped a new instance of the background there again. Added the same instance name and sizing was enabled again. Is there a reason why it became disabled?

I also updated this code and it works fine now.
