I really hate when you read a tutorial from some "expert" and what it tells you to do is wrong. I was doing a tutorial for a XML slide show, and the last line of code doesn't work quite right:

I have the TweenLite com folder in the folder that the FLA is located in, and my document class is named PhotoPanels as in the movie, but my images are not rotating as they do in the tutorial at this point.
i would like to know, is it possible to go to a other website (url) if i click on one of the picture in the tutorial "3D Photo Panals)? What is the command for this? It doesn´t work with TweenLite. I would like to have the same tutorial, but with buttons. Is this possible?

The horizontal slider is quite smart and there is additonal functionality attached to it to affect it's movement which I'm not too worried about although it would be nice)

I have downloaded an excellent slide show tutorial from Slideshow.as[URL] and being new to As3 I very basically attached and removed the downloaded slide show on and off the stage with a simple button which fired the following code: addChild(); to make the slides appear and a removeChild(); to remove them. This worked fine until I quickly realised that each time the slide show was re added it had doubled in speed until after a few re loads it was wizzing through

I'm having problems with a simple flash site that contains a scrolling slide show, that uses a .xml file.I was sent a .fla file that I couldn't open with MX 2004 ... I asked them to save it as a MX 2004 file. They sent it back, and I was able to open it.The problem is ... when I save it as a .swf the slide show doesn't work.The .swf & .xml files are on the same level in the directory, and the .swf path to the .xml file is correct, also the .xml to the image folder path is correct.I have spent hours going through this, and can't get it to work.I have added images to the .xml file, and they show up (I am using the original .swf) so the .xml file is OK, and again the path from .xml to the images folder is correct. This is the working .swf file (click on the portfolio link )Now ... imagine no images there, and that's what I'm getting when I save the .fla as a .swf.Other changes I make to the .fla are working properly ... just the slideshow is the problem.Did something happen when the .fla was saved as a MX 2004 that caused the .xml part to stop working?IM not a whiz at actionscript, but I have gone over it several times, and can't see anything that looks out of place.

i created a slide show with buttons, when i test it in flash it works correctly but when i put it in a html page, it does not redirect you to the page when you click on it.
I'm developing a new website one with a dynamic slideshow which can be found here. [URL] The problem is, after weeks of it working it all of a sudden now has issues loading the xml data into the swf. The swf loads but nothing displays in it, this worked and I changed nothing but updated the graphics which would display in it. If you hit refresh an untold number of times eventually it loads. To me this sounds like a server issue, but I'm not sure.
I've tried updating my flash player, updated the swfobject.js to the latest one I could find. I've made all my .js local on the server instead of calling externally to a source. I'm not sure what the problem might be. I've attached a working and not working example graphic to this post. I've tested this out on 7 different PC's both of which running either Windows 7 or Windows XP. Out of 7, 4 of them load the slideshow properly each and every time. 3 of them however loads it, but will randomly get the issue where it doesn't load properly.
I tried creating a music player based on Lee's tutorial (part 1 and 2). However, the code I used in my movie is slightly different from Lee's. Unfortunately, for some reason the mp3 player won't jump to the next song, like it does in the video tutorial. At first I thought there was a hidden error in my code, and later, after many tests I realized that the problem was the same even with Lee's files as well, which makes me wonder what's really happening here?I'm using Flash CS4 under Windows Vista Ultimate edition. However, I get the same strange behavior when I run the tutorial files on a different PC, in Flash CS3 under Vista Home Edition. This is why I believe that attaching my custom files to this thread is not necessary.
I've been trying all day to get the Papervision3D Collada Basics tutorial to work and every time I run the file I end up with an empty black screen. No matter what I've tried i cannot get anything to show up. Finally I had the idea to download the source files from the tutorial and run those 'as is' without changing anything. When I opened the SWF created by Lee, all i saw was the same blank black screen. Has anyone else run into this? All other Flash files seem to be fine,
I'm updating my website and my menu buttons have an animation on the mouseOver. A simple animated button with the "Up", "Over", "Down" and "Hit" keyframes.
www.brenda-nies.com will show the effect of my menu buttons and the effect I want to keep. Part of my updates are switching to AS3 and that's where my problem comes in. You can't see it on the website I gave you, but in my working file, when I test it (in IE8), everything starts out fine when I first rollover my button, the animation runs through it's cycle and stops. However, if I press down on the mouse button, the animation starts over. The same when I release the mouse button, the animation starts over. I want the animation to run through 1 cycle and stop, then stay stopped until I roll off the button.
I have a dynamic text field in a MC that should loop, but for some reason it plays once then vanishes. The text from the XML file does show up, and the text field is still there but blank. I have checked the basic stuff like anti alias for animation, embed, no stop(); or anything that simple. Here is the XML, all my instances are labeled correctly in the .fla
After finally making a button with an animation in it, I get stuck with the button actually working. I followed this tutorial; [URL] for the most part. And when I link the button to an URL like it uses as an example in the tut it works. But when I want to link it to a frame label in my website it doesn't work. I've been experimenting with Dynamic Streaming while in the process of writing a tutorial. The documentation is quite clear on a few points: The keyframe interval in the various encodings should be shortThe bufferlength should be at least 2x the keyframe intervalThe player should sense a bandwidth change, by default, within the 4-second sampling interval and call for a switch. Then, the switch could take as long as 2x the keyframe interval after that. What I'm finding is wildly different behavior than this. It takes anywhere from 10-15 seconds for the player to notice the change and call for a switch, then another 20-40 seconds for the switch to happen. When switching up to a higher bitrate stream, this just means the user gets low bitrate video for longer than they ought to. But when switching down due to falling bandwidth, the buffer runs out and the user stares at the rebuffering sign for a lengthy time - long enough to give up on watching the video, for sure.
I've encoded an H.264 MP4 file at 64, 384, and 768 kbps, at 30fps and an "every 60 frames" keyframe interval. I've streamed it rtmp via two different CDNs that use FMS 3.5, into two different Flash video players (JW Player and Flowplayer). I've restricted my bandwidth on Windows XP with Netlimiter 2.0; and on the Mac with 'ipfw'. I've set bufferlength between 4 and 10 seconds. I've tested switching up and switching down. For up, I start with a 200kbps bandwidth limit. The video starts OK with the correct stream, then at 5 seconds I open up the bandwidth to unrestricted. For testing down, I do the opposite: start at unrestricted and then at 00:05 restrict to 200kbps.
My test page, with both players and sample code is at [URL] n-flash-bitrate-switching/ I also have a couple of screen recordings there showing the behavior of the whole process, both switching up and switching down. I thought I've done everything right here - paid attention to every documented detail, but it works rather poorly. Can someone explain whether this is expected behavior, if the players have implemented dynamic switching poorly, or if I'm doing something wrong?
I'm trying to make a slide-show that adjusts to the width or height of the stage, and eventually, of the web browser window. I was able to load and resize a picture by writing code on the timeline, but I got the Error #1009 (Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference) when I put this slide show into another movie clip loader (which chooses between different swf pages of the website, with the purpose of keeping the swf file sizes down). By the way, my "slide-show" loads the picture fine. When I use the movie clip loader to load this "slide-show" it works too. Only when I use the Flash Player to open it, it gives me the Error 1009. I looked around on actionscript.org, and everyone seems to be recommending the folowing code (or something like it):[code]
I also ran into some information about document classes and I figure maybe I should be using document classes to make this stuff more modular and reusable. So I put my slide-show code into an .as file, importing all the flash.xxx.* classes, and put it in a package and class and constructor function... in the same directory as my swf file, and set it as the document class to a blank fla file. Then I tested it and all I got was a blank swf. This is without the Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE code. I guess I don't know how to get the document class thingy working either. So my question is, can someone tell me how I can change my slide-show code into a working document class without the Error 1009?r?[code]
I am using currentSlide.gotoNextSlide to change between slides, however I can't make it stop playback on load of each slide.I have a motion tween with I need to NOT play automatically when the slide loads... but no matter how many iterations of stop(), gotoAndStop(), etc I use, nothing will stop the clip from playing when it is loaded!

I have followed both of pom's tutorials that involve experiments with perspective in Flash, but I have encountered a problem while attempting to duplicate a movie clip symbol in the second tutorial ([URL]). I have a single instance of the "ball" movie clip symbol appearing at random positions. I have built a catalog in flash that was orginally built in InDesign and exported but it has some small content that is hard to read for the elderly users viewing it and I would like to add a zoom feature or some type of magnifying glass.
original: I really just need to figure out how to center the pictures. here is what I did I have modified the tutorial that I finished to have a bigger stage for bigger pictures. Everything is working properly but the pictures are displayed on the left side, I want to have them centered in the stage for the images, after clicking on the thumbnails, plus my images are different sizes as well. ranging from 200x410 to 744x410 but all are the same height of 410. i will post up what I am talking about at the end. I am creating a flash slide presentation to use as part of an online portfolio. I have created a presentation that so far has three slides, each containing a flv that I imported and added a skin to.Is there any way to stop the movie on slide one (besides manually) when I move to slide two? I don't care if the mvie returns to the begining or not i just want to beable and view the video on slide two without hearing the sound from slide one.

wondering if this is a Global Variable problem? Is there any reason that the "variables" variable would stop populating after the first slide? Obviously, they are getting to the last slide since the submit button is passing them (or is the external file doing it?), but don't know why the post ones are not going.

In the second chapter it teaches you how to integrate the login for to another app.Basically I'm looking for a book that teaches you real working application rather than abstract ideas. Programming language I have in mind is Adobe Air/Flex, Visual Basic. Functions I have in mind should at least cover Drag and Drops, Integration to a web form (form entry) and customizable interfaces.The languages i had in mind isn't fix. If you know a programming platform that has little code or easy to learn but still be able to develop a cool application.
