I've got a comboBox component on the stage, instance name 'combo'. I want to style the text. I followed the adobe instructions, but they seem not work, and I get no errors.
Code:
import fl.data.DataProvider;
import flash.text.TextFormat;
var tf:TextFormat = new TextFormat();

I have a menu and i need to replace the style of the menu to another menu but everything out of the style will be the same...
View 1 RepliesIm looking to add a bit of nice movement to a simple black background.has anyone ever since or used a PS3 style looping menu background or something similar, it has to be something subtle....
View 1 RepliesI'm looking for a tutorial on how to do a similar menu style to the coraline movie website. (I'd put the url in but the forum won't let me >_<)
Basically I want the background to move with the mouse sideways. I've looked up sliding menu's but they're a completely different menu style.
I love looking through other people's codes and see how they style their comments, most people use a mix of * and ////, and of course it all depends on the language, but I have definitely seen some good ways to comment and some bad ways. A coded page can really come together with the right commenting structure and make it really easy to read for someone coming into a project without any knowledge.

globalStyleFormat.arrow = 0x333333;
globalStyleFormat.scrollTrack = 0xDDDDDD;
globalStyleFormat.highlight = 0xFFFFFF;
globalStyleFormat.highlight3D = 0x333333;

I think this should work.
I want my Flash button to call a URL from an XML that then opens up a AJAX window (like lightbox or multibox) over the page.So the user clicks on Flash and a AJAX pop up appears.I've set up the popups, I'm using facebox (which is really nice).They way the do this is by creating an ID DIV like below:[code]now I have a Flash that can call to XML and get a URL...The problem is when I put "#world1div" in the url portion of the XML, it doesn't work.How do I call this ID from XML?
View 2 RepliesHow do I load a CSS stylesheet to format XML text that is loaded into the swf using AS3? The goal is to assign hyperlinks to a list of text. The only way I can find to do that is CSS formatted XML. However, there is very, very little information on how to load and apply CSS to XML text using AS3.
View 1 RepliesI am using a datagrid in flex and need to render each cell with a different style.What could be the best way to set a style to a perticular cell in datagrid/advanced datagrid (flex)?
I think one possible option can be extend the datagrid and override the drawRowBackgroungd function. Apart from this can i use some custom item renderer or some property similar to label function of a series, there it used to return label here we need a style.
I don't want to skin a ComboBox but I want to set its style with setStyle.
I found it can be used a syntax like the one below:
aCb.setStyle("textPadding", 10);
aCb.setStyle("buttonWidth", 10);
What I want to do is the following:
eliminate the default "divisions" between list items; change the rollover color;
I'm using flash builder 4.5 to make a website. At the moment I'm trying to work on the layout of my website but I'm facing some problems. First of all my CSS looks like this.
/* CSS file */
@namespace s "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark";
@namespace mx "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx";
s|Application{
[code]....
Just wondering if it's possible to apply a *.css to a spark TextArea? If so, how?
View 1 RepliesAre there any libraries out there which will help me style a Flex application without going insane?
For example, is there any "accepted" way to set an element's size/position without hard-coding it into each element?
I wanted to know how to make a Mac OS X Styled menu. I need it for a site that I am making.
View 8 RepliesI'm looking into having a interface using multiple windows which you can drag by pulling the dragbar around.Each window would be a movieclip called *****_win and inside would be a dragBar that the mouse has to pull around to move the window.I have searched a lot on google, and decided to end up asking here.
1) All the code I used so far did not have any borders. (The borders would be the stage, not an image).
2) Whenever I dragged an object, it would drag the whole window.
3) If the cursor left the window while dragging (which is does a lot), I have to drag it again.
Anyway how I can do an OS-like way of dragging a window?
I am at uni and have a project to create an interactive game for the story Johnny Mnemonic. I would like to create a game whereby the player has a whip type weapon, there is an opponent jumping up and down and with the whip you attack them and cut off limbs -
I'm thinking it would be like a simple shooting ducks style game in terms of coding, the player has visible just a hand with the whip in it, you move the whip to your desired location click chosen button to hit, the whip then animates a flick, if it hits correct spot on bouncing opponent then an animation of the limb flying off happens, so the bouncing opponent is like the duck and the whip like the gun - if that is right at all?
I'm building an RPG game and need help with the dialogue. I have no idea how to go about it. What I want to set up is something that after approaching a character and pressing spacebar (or any key), text displays with an image to the left of the character speaking. I've tried looking up tutorials but they all seem to be for CS3 (I am using Flash 8).
I currently have no code whatsoever to share, since...I don't know where to start =/ . Source codes would be appreciated, but most of all, I'd love a link to a tutorial or past thread that explains in detail (and layman terms...) how to do something like this, since I want to learn as I go.
how to apply style to components? I already have components on the stage (so not generating them new from classes in ActionScript). Specifically, I need to designate the display text for both the checkbox and the radiobutton.

I have a static text with Arial font style and looks on screen as normal, and I have many dynamic text fields with their text font is set to Arial by AS3.the code is here:
var myformat3:TextFormat = new TextFormat("Arial", 12);
levBoxNy.setTextFormat(myformat3);
The appearance of text is clearly different when I compare static text with dynamic ones. Why it is so?
I have a project that consists of 11 invisible buttons laid over a map of a building; when the user mouses over a "room," the name of the room appears. The building map is on an angle so I rotated and skewed the button text to match the map. All the text looks fine within each button symbol, but when published 4 or 5 of them lose their skew...the rotation seems to still be intact.
View 1 RepliesI have the feeling that AS3.0 will not work with complex CSS styling, correct? I'm creating some div tag and I want to style the div tag. Will AS3 work with div tag?
View 7 RepliesI've added styles to my datagrid text using setStyle and and setRenderStyle. My datagrid fields are set as editable. When you click on the editable text it reverts to a much smaller font. Is there a way to add styles to the input font?

View 1 RepliesI do a lot of work with GWT but don't have experience of Flex. I was talking to a guy today who was looking at moving some large Flex based applications to GWT due to the Flex application getting too big and using too much memory in the browser. This is a problem I have had before with GWT - browser apps using lots of memory as all the code gets loaded when it starts.
However, in GWT 2.0 there is now a code splitting feature to overcome the problem of the client code getting too big. This allows all the code (javascript) not to be loaded as one big file on start up but instead code split into different files that can be loaded when required.
I was thinking as to if there is anything similar in Flex. I assume the Flex application code all lives in one single SWF file which loads at start-up so this approach is not possible but thought there might be other solutions.
I have a fairly complex Flex application that uses many different components. I want the application to be able to custom styling and/or skinning. I also want to be sure that the styling approach makes the most efficient use of system resources (memory, CPU, network), and that it does not adversely impact performance. We currently are using a hybrid approach to styling the application that uses both CSS and a Flash skin created in CS3. It seems odd to me to have a two-pronged approach to styling an application and ideally would like to settle on one approach or the other. Some outline about advantages and disadvantages of using either exclusively CSS or a Flash skin? Is there a justification for using both within the same app?
Using CSS exclusively seems advantageous because it is approachable by anyone with a basic understanding of other uses of CSS, especially when using the Flex 2 Style Explorer. On the other hand, I know that the CS3 skin we use declares up/over/down/disabled/pressed skins for each component where these states are needed and Flex manages the transitions to the appropriate skins as each state is (de)activated. However, my impression is that creation of a Flex skin in CS3 requires somewhat specialized skills and tools. So what would you recommend for styling a Flex application if performance, customization, and efficient resource utilization are priorities?
I am a student with a mainly electronics background getting into programing. The more I get into it, the more I realize how bad I am at it. I am trying to get better at OO design.One thing I have been reading about is the use of Getters and Setters.

Now I can see the point they are making here but I am still unable to see away around some simple problems. And this brings me to my question (finally). I am setting up a simple tower defense game in AS3 as a learning exercise. I want enemies to follow way points so I was going to make an array of way points, and make that a property of a map object. And a way point was to be an object with an x and a y property (more like a struct).
I'm using a CSS file to style my flex application. can I use components IDs to change their style from the CSS file? Or I should add the styleName attribute for each element?
