I have child node that has no information ... it would be a URL, so the error message I get is Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2035: URL Not Found.. Code: _currURL = path.article.(@ID == _marker).storyURL; I thought I might check to see if _currURL == null, but that does nothing.

I am trying to retrive the ARCHIVE String, but can't seem to do that, without also getting the <level3>COLOR</level3> node. I am doing this like this: _
xmlData.navigation.level1.level2[0], which returns this:

How do I get it to where it only returns the ARCHIVE?

I use the attached code to load the attached xml file, but it will only load the first 20 nodes. I have moved the 20th to the 21st and the 21st up to the 20th and it will still load the first 20, so it isn't a formatting problem.

This works fine if I have more than one , but fails if there is only one .Am I wrong in my assumption that it should return one? I trace xml..Group.length() and it is 0, but the Group is definately in the xml.Any ideas on how you can get one or more Group nodes from my xml?

When using the component in an MXML document, I would like to have the "(HEADING TEXT)" replaced with a parameter (should be easy) as well as the "(INSTANCE MXML)" with several labels, text inputs, check boxes, etc. (maybe harder). I have found this script-based method, but I would like a cleaner compile-time solution if one exists.

The Alert keeps coming up as 1. I read in the documentation that this will happen with XML objects but it is working when I create the XMLList and counts the number of questions I have. The code is working except it is only rendering 1 RadioButton, very sad. I suppose I could put the number of options within the <options> tag but I'd rather do it dynamically to avoid errors.

What I would like to know is how do you get the larger image to display when the user clicks on a thumbnail in the scrolling panel? (I have 8 thumbnails, and 8 larger images).

You'll see in the third once there is no link. Apparently, when I throw it into an XMLList, it gets ignored and all of the links are off by one.
I have quite some experience with Flex and I am just starting to write my first AIR application and would like to use as much Spark as possible here. So I started withe a simple Hello World application:

However as soon as I change the root tag to mx:WindowedApplication everything behaves as expected: The label and the button are shown and the console shows the output of the two trace statements.

So, I have a Vbox names isThisVBoxAwesomeOrWhat that contains another VBox that containst two text fields.Now, further in the code I make a plane out of it so I can make a 3D object out of it, here is the snippet:[for i in totalPlanes]

So now I have my scene filled with planes made out of VBox composite as I wanted. I also have those planes in a linkedList, and what I would like to do now is to "SOMEHOW" access each individual VBox and it's composites for each individual plane.Something like this (obviously doesn't work! Just an example):
linkedList.node.data.VBox.VBox.Text[0]
so I could modify parameters on the fly. Or maybe I'm totally wrong on this and I should have as many Vbox'en as I have planes and id each individually. Whatever the case I can't figure out how to access children of the parent in this mxml example.
For those unfamiliar with tree structures, tree structures are usually dynamic lists where every node has a pointer to two other nodes. They are arranged so it makes for faster searching and stuff and are very useful in programming languages that offer direct access to heap memory. Although I don't know if there would be benefits of making tree structures in AS would be of any help but I decided to have a go at it anyway. Since there are no pointers in flash I tried to just replace pointers to nodes with nodes themselves. Such things usually work in java I think because the language just automatically makes pointers for variables.

I just read this answer and it recommends fdt, but seems fdt can only deal with scripts but not .fla ones. Which IDE should I use so that I can use it to develop various files involved in flash developing?

Anybody else have that dilemma where you have movieclips on stage that should animate, but because they somehow end up switching index/priority(top to bottom on a single layer) on stage in some keyframes, they end up resetting themselves. This causes you to go back through all your movie clips just to check for this. Is there a reletively simple way to deal with this?
Also, assume that distributing everything to layers is not an option.
I am trying to dynamically resize an flv playing back in a flash player. To do this, I need to get the flv's width/height so I can maintain the original aspect ratio. I have noticed that in Firefox the onMetaData event will be hit right away, and the video will resize properly. In IE however, onMetaData is not hit until the buffer is full and video starts playing.
One solution I have thought of is to set the initial buffer to something close to 0 (e.g. 0.01). Then the buffer will instantly hit full, and the video will be resized. The issue I have with this is low bandwidth users will have a a short 'sputter' of video (0.5 seconds say) at the beginning before it goes to the next, larger, buffer. Is there any better way to deal with this behavior in IE? Can you manually "get" the metaData from an FLV file before it even plays?
is it best to load sound files into the library, or to load them externally? What I want to do is make a sampler app. You'd have a selection of loops and drag and drop them onto a timeline. My main concern is performance and any delay of sound.

The same method body is shared by another method fired on a keyboard Event (so, it takes a keyboard Event for argument). Which is the best way to deal with situations like this one? I would like to have only one method.One way could be to create a new method called by the two event handlers (even if, if I need to use e.target, it can change according to the type of event and other variables, so I should eventually create a method that takes e.target as a parameter). This creates three methods...Would it be possible to change for example e:MouseEvent with a parent of MouseEvent and KeyboardEvent?
