I am trying to retrive the ARCHIVE String, but can't seem to do that, without also getting the <level3>COLOR</level3> node. I am doing this like this: _
xmlData.navigation.level1.level2[0], which returns this:
ARCHIVE

How do I get it to where it only returns the ARCHIVE?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Convert Child Nodes To Var?

Oct 31, 2010

I tried the last 3 hours to convert child nodes to variables.

I followed the tutorial on [URL]

I use the following (working) code:

Code:
var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
var xmlData:XML = new XML();
xmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, LoadXML);

[Code].....

Now I try to assign variables to each child (Country, Search, Link, etc). But I don't seem to succeed with that.

I tried different approaches like:

var test = languageList.Countryvar test = e.item.CountryIn my xml file I have 8 languages.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Count Number Of Child Nodes Length()?

Feb 6, 2009

I'm trying to parse some simple XML and use it to render some controls, its all going so well. I'm having some trouble with E4X and counting the number of nested nodes within a certain child...code is as follows....

Code:

<questions>
<question>
<label>History of Smoking</label>
<value>3</value>

[Code]....

The Alert keeps coming up as 1. I read in the documentation that this will happen with XML objects but it is working when I create the XMLList and counts the number of questions I have. The code is working except it is only rendering 1 RadioButton, very sad. I suppose I could put the number of options within the <options> tag but I'd rather do it dynamically to avoid errors.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Referencing A Child's Method

Nov 6, 2008

I'm trying to make a small card simulation that creates a pile of cards, and when I click on the deck it flips the top card over and moves it to another pile. Clicking on the other pile flips it back. I'm using Flash CS3 so can't use Flash 10's 3D abilities. So far, I'v created a Card class (extending sprite) which draws 2 rectangles (for the front and back faces), and contains a public method flipTo(). which when called starts a tween which moves the card and flips it (by adjusting it's scaleX value to negative, and when scaleX = 0 toggling the visibility of the card's faces).

This works fine, and so I have a for loop that creates 10 instances of the Card class on top of each other (and within a sprite container called rightPile), giving me my pile. I've attached an event listener to the pile, so when I click it, it performs the onRightClicked function, which calls the top card's flipTo() method. So when I click on the pile, the top card flips. However, when I click again, the same card flips again, and I can't figure out how to make the next card flip. I've tried keeping track of the index of the current card, and using rightPile.getChildAt(currentCard).flipTo(), but I get the following error...

ActionScript 3.0 :: Referencing Parent MC From Child?

Mar 9, 2012

Each of these children has an index value assign to it for the purpose of relating to an XML file, but that's beside the point. Those children have other children eventListeners that call a tween function. That tween function wants to tween the first child.First question: what is the proper syntax for referencing the parent and getting that index value? Does this work, with currentTarget being the child that called the function:var something = e.currentTarget.parent.index;If not, how can I get that index value?Second question: In order to determine which of the first children the tween is applied to, I could write a conditional that checks the index value and tweens based on that. Is there an easier way to do this? And what conditional would work best? I'm thinking if() else() but I'm relatively new to as3 so if there's something more efficient I'd love to hear it

ActionScript 3.0 :: Referencing A Child Of A New Object Instance From The Library?

May 20, 2009

I make a movie clip in the library ( a button with a text field on it ) and export it for actionscript. Then I create an instance of the object using code ( myButton = new Button1(); ).And then I want to access and change the text field ( whose instance name is "myField" in Flash ) afterwards.Is that possible, or I have to create a custom class for the object, or just create an entire button dynamically?

Because what I have tried until now doesn't work.

Code:
var button1:button_test1 = new button_test1();
button1.x = stage.width / 2;
button1.y = stage.width / 2;

[code]....

This questions is for all movie clips: is there a way to access a movie clip's objects with actionscript after you have created (with code) an instance of that object (which was designed in flash, and exported for AS) ?

Actionscript 3 :: Access Planes "child" Nodes In Flex/Papervision3D?

Feb 23, 2010

I have mxml thingy, for example:

<mx:VBox id="isThisVBoxAwesomeOrWhat" width="500" height="500"
backgroundImage="@Embed('images/500x500.jpg')" verticalAlign="bottom"
includeInLayout="false"[cod

So, I have a Vbox names isThisVBoxAwesomeOrWhat that contains another VBox that containst two text fields.Now, further in the code I make a plane out of it so I can make a 3D object out of it, here is the snippet:[for i in totalPlanes]
...

var material:MovieMaterial = new MovieMaterial(isThisVBoxAwesomeOrWhat, true, true, true);
...
plane = new Plane(material, isThisVBoxAwesomeOrWhat.width, isThisVBoxAwesomeOrWhat.height, 10, 10);[code].....

So now I have my scene filled with planes made out of VBox composite as I wanted. I also have those planes in a linkedList, and what I would like to do now is to "SOMEHOW" access each individual VBox and it's composites for each individual plane.Something like this (obviously doesn't work! Just an example):

linkedList.node.data.VBox.VBox.Text[0]

so I could modify parameters on the fly. Or maybe I'm totally wrong on this and I should have as many Vbox'en as I have planes and id each individually. Whatever the case I can't figure out how to access children of the parent in this mxml example.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Tree Structures - Replace Pointers To Nodes With Nodes Themselves

Jan 26, 2006

For those unfamiliar with tree structures, tree structures are usually dynamic lists where every node has a pointer to two other nodes. They are arranged so it makes for faster searching and stuff and are very useful in programming languages that offer direct access to heap memory. Although I don't know if there would be benefits of making tree structures in AS would be of any help but I decided to have a go at it anyway. Since there are no pointers in flash I tried to just replace pointers to nodes with nodes themselves. Such things usually work in java I think because the language just automatically makes pointers for variables.
