ActionScript 3.0 :: Apply A Glowfilter To A 3D Spherical Model?
Mar 13, 2012Trying to apply a glowfilter to a 3D spherical model.
It works for the cube but with the sphere the Z property is included, just turns my model all black.

I'm trying to apply a GlowFilter (border) to a image and then rotate+skew it. Unfortunately, doing this makes the filter look bad (jagged edges) even though the image itself is smooth. I've tried a few things, including using different filters (like the DropShadowFilter). Here's a rough example of what I'm doing...

I am trying to get this photo gallery to work the way i want it too. I am trying to make the background transparent.And I can do it but when I do, the gallery seems to loose functionality. I can not scroll it, but it works when there is a background
View 3 RepliesThe function below returns points on a sphere with a given radius. I want to add restriction such that points cannot be plotted within 30 degrees of the poles of the sphere.
public static function randomPoint(radius:Number):Number3D {
var inclination:Number = Math.random() * Math.PI*2;
var azimuth:Number = Math.random() * Math.PI*2;
var point:Number3D = new Number3D(
radius * Math.sin(inclination) * Math.cos(azimuth),
radius * Math.sin(inclination) * Math.sin(azimuth),
radius * Math.cos(inclination)
);
return point;
}
I'm building an application using flex 4.
Using <mx:DataGrid> to display a table.
I would like to add a <s:GlowFilter> to a DataGridColumn. How can I do so?
I have a code like the one bellow, that adds glow to the text.
var glow:GlowFilter = new
GlowFilter(); glow.color = 0x000000;
glow.alpha = 1; glow.blurX = 5;
[Code]...
The problem is that, I need to find a way, to later be able to get the glow color! I cant's find a way to retrieve the glow color....
As it is said here: [URL] "If you do a Google search today for "MVVM and Flex", the first post is by somebody who claims that MVVM is not a good fit for Flex. I couldn't disagree more. Out of the box, the Flex framework makes it much easier to implement a Presentation Model than similar MVVM implementations in Silverlight. That is not to say that there aren't good third-party libraries that make it easier in Silverlight, but without any help, it is easier to do in Flex." So MVVM as LOGICAL CONCEPT can be implemented in both but the way it is implemented in Silverlight requires more Plumbing than Flex.
What prevents Silverlight MVVM to be implemented like Flex ? Doesn't Silverlight have same capability in event system to do the same? If yes why does Silverlight do things more complicated what's the advantages then ? Is it about using Class Interfaces which are more strongly typed? What are the disadvantages also ? For example as for implementing MULTIPLE VIEWS for 1 View-Model does Flex implementation make it also more obvious?
I can't get the GlowFilter to work on a Shape that has already been ColorTransformed. Is there a limitation? They each work fine individually.
Code:
import flash.filters.GlowFilter;
private function colorRoom(pShape:Shape, pColor:uint):void{
var tColor:ColorTransform = new ColorTransform();
[Code]....
I have four instances of a movieclip (consisted of a textfield) on stage with given names btn1,btn2,btn3,btn4. The issue is I cannot get the GlowFilter work on ROLL_OVER event Listener.
PHP Code:
import com.greensock.*;
import com.greensock.easing.*;
var buttons_array:Array = [btn1,btn2,btn3,btn4];
var previousBtn = MovieClip(buttons_array[0]);
previousBtn.mouseEnabled = false;

I've noticed a bit of discrepancy of using the public AS3 API for the GlowFilter strength property. All the others seem to make sense when comparing the visual effect using the Flash CS5 tool on a MovieClip. However the strength seems to baffle me. The API lists strength being a number from 0 to 255:
http:[url]..........How does a number between 0 and 255 translate to a number between 0 and 100% as listed in Flash CS5. In other words what would be the parameters I should use to repeat the same effect as this:
If I try to apply this using code this is what comes to mind for each of the properties:
blurX = 5blurY = 5color = 0xFF0000quality = BitmapFilterQuality.LOWstrength = 255
So does strength of 100% act the same as the max value of strength allowed by the API, which is 255? Here's what happens when you do this with this code:
clip_mc.filters = [ new GlowFilter(0xFF0000,
1,5,5,255,
BitmapFilterQuality.LOW,[code]............
When I test this I get different results. Here's the filter effect as applied at design time:And here's the filter effect applied dynamically using the GlowFilter class (see code above):
Notice the slight difference in the strength? How can we accurately replicate filters given these two strength scales? I need to apply a class to a load of MovieClip objects at run-time and don't want to have to go into the library and paste the filter preset 100+ times.
I've tried many alternatives to get a text field to show the glow effect on the iPod, but none worked.
It works when I run a .swf on my PC, but the glow filter will not show up on my iPod Touch after I convert it into a .ipa with Flash CS5.5
Is there a method that will currently work?
Is this a bug or something not implemented yet?
My problem is I'd like to retain the transparency of agraphics fill on a DisplayObject after applying a filter. If Idraw, say a rectangle, through a Sprite's Graphics and while doingso, specify some transparency:
var spr:Sprite = new Sprite();
var g:Graphics = spr.graphics as Graphics;
g.beginFill(0x00ff00,

I'm trying to create some MovieClips with a glow effect when you rollOver and the glow effect dissapearing on rollOut. But when the rollOut is finished my background movieclip to which I apply the filter (a simple 20 x 20 vector circle) all of a sudden appears jagged, when before rollOver/rollOut it appeared smooth as it should. What could be going on here? I'm pretty new to AS3, thus the example isn't working properly yet. For instance:
* when you roll over the item the first time it immediately shows the end phase of the glow in stead of animating. I thought I'ld circumvent this with Tween.rewind() in the constructor, but that didn't do the trick.
* also I'm not sure whether the addEventListener for TweenEvent.MOTION_CHANGE is placed in the correct spot. I tried putting it in the constructor, but that resulted in the event being recieved continuously by _onMotionChange.
But the most important part is the jagged circle after the glow filter has dissapeared. This is what I have so far (abbreviated example):
[CODE]....
when I add a dark glow to some text using 'Glowfilter', the text is set to use antialias for readability.When I preview my flash file the text renders incorrectly - the last few pixels on the right hand side of the block of text are missing. i.e. if I use the text 'word' then the vertical line on the right of the 'd' character doesn't render.If I change the antialias setting on the text to use device font or antialias for animation the problem doesn't happen.

There are no shared events or something between them.In my modules there is a datagrid and with a contextmen¼, the details of selected data opens in a popup window.The modules are controlled by an loalEventMap and a presentationModel as usual.If i closed the popup immediantly and open it again, all works fine, but if i change some data in the popup, close it unload my module and loade the module again, open the popup again, mate throw the following error[code]....
View 1 RepliesI want to create a rotatable 3D model SWF, but I need to build it dynamically using PHP or some sort of scripting. The ideea is I need to make a dental arch, and depending on the variables, include all the teeth, or exclude the ones that are missing, and then show the final model.I have the models for all the teeth.
View 4 RepliesI've been asked to create a model of an airport. Very basic. No textures and only simple shapes to represent check in zones, stairs, restaurants etc. It needs to be able to animate from floor to floor in birds eye view and to the outside of the building at an eye level view. It will be an annotated clip that plays following a persons movements. It needs to be incorporated into an adobe air application. I'm not sure even what software i should use for this. bear in mind i don't have any experience with 3D packages like 3DS Max. I suppose its possible in Flash Professional but can imagine drawing it all being a bit of a pain, is there something out there more suited?
View 7 RepliesIm working with AS3 and in my application I have a base SWF (with its document class) main.swf / main.as
And I have several SWF that includes a video inside with some navigation code (some buttons that I code in individual classes for each SWF). The problem is that I cannot find a method to load the swf's right, because the event that triggers the load process happens in the loaded SWF (the child).
I would like to make some kind of interactive 3D model in flash.
In the image below you see a 3D model. It's just an example to explain what I have in mind. You see a red disc 1, a blue disc 2 and a pushbutton. The idea is that the blue disc rotates (for example 45 degrees) compared to the red disc when you push the button. Is that possible in a 3D model that you also can turn around with your mouse?
I can make the models in Rhinoceros 4.0, that's no problem. Importing the model into flash is also no problem (papervision). But how can I add some interactives to the 3D model like a pushbutton and a slidecard?
There are some open SDK for Flash, that could be done. Rotating photos with physics? Examples of such programs BumTop, ePic, Coloris (no physics). The photo on the plane, it can be moved to the real physics?
View 1 RepliesSo I'm not 100% sure if it's possible, but what I'd like to do is take a model that someone has created for a game, say in Blender or something similar, in various formats, and from that create an image to show on a website. Are there any Java libraries around? Java3D maybe? Or even something in Flash? Ideally you'd be able to rotate the model in some embedded flash app, but I'd settle for a plain old image.
View 2 RepliesI have a Collada (.dae) file that I found on Google's 3d Warehouse. Using Away3d, I'm able to load the file and display it on my view using the following code:
var object3d = Collada.parse(FooXML, { material:"white", x:0, y:0, z:0 });
view.scene.addChild(object3d);
The problem is that it's just floating out in space and no matter how I adjust the position via .x, .y, or .z, it never moves from its spot. I'm using Flash cs4 and the latest stable release from Away3d.
I want to show a box in 3d on my website, and I was thinking to do it in Flash. How I can show a 3d model?I need something very simple, it's a textured cube, no interaction required, just let the user pan and zoom.There is a 3ds viewer in flash or something like that?

I am working on an StoryBoarding application,it is a slide based application in which the authors can put several components like image , sound , captions etc in each of the slide.A collection of slides will make a storyboard.This application will be deployed on a web server (sharepoint + IIS , and php+apache), and several users can collaborate with each other for authoring or reviewing the storyboard.In my application I also want to support auto save ,which will keep on storing the state of the storyboard.User can also save at any point of time by clicking the save button.I am confused about how to store the state of the storyboard.
1)Presently I am doing this by passing all the storyboard data to a dot net web-service and then that service is storing images,caption etc in their respective tables into a database .2)Another approach possible is to store the model of the application as a serialized object into the db , which will be more convenient since separating the components of the model (like images,captions etc..) will not be required and also restoring the state of the objects in the application will be easy . I have two doubts about using approach 2 :-i) I want the the saved storyboard to load quickly, for which I would like to support the partial so that lighter objects like caption can be loaded quickly but other heavier objects like image,video etc can be loaded on demand. Using approach 2 , do I have to send the whole data in one go or is there way to support partial loading ?
In Flex world, is DTO / VO same as Presentation Model?
