ActionScript 3.0 :: Building A Grid Of Buttons Dynamically In A For Loop From XML

I am building a grid of buttons dynamically in a for loop from XML. I am then assigning them button.label and button.name from the array. The grid appears, the buttons have the right label, the event.target.name method produces the name on the button in a trace. Now how do I attach that to a function dynamically? I need the name of the button to call the next step.
I've been staring at the screen too long and I'm sure the answer is simple but this has been bugging me for a bit now. I've created a grid with over 200 movie clips dynamically using a for loop. I was wondering if there was a way to assign rollovers and such to each new clip using the same loop.
I've been poking around with it a bit but can't seem to get it working and sure don't want to write over 200 rollover functions so any help would be great.
So I'm trying to get cute again by building stacks of buttons dynamically, then labeling them from an external text file. The code I have so far is as follows:

I want to create a page with art work where images are pulled externally and the items in the grid also have text and are clickable (all taken from XML).I succesfully extracted information from XML and am using a for loop to create my image gird but not sure this is the best method? I have used an XML gallery tutorial from Republic of Code to get me started. I'm building a project that dynamically loads external images and audio into it.The images in the external folder are numbered sequentially in the order they display as you click through them (1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg, etc). No problem.There is audio that is supposed to fade in a play with certain images. (1.mp3 fades in when 1.jpg is displayed.). No problem.Here's where it gets tricky... At least for me.Not every jpg has an audio file associated with it. The last audio that was triggered needs to keep playing until another jpg with cooresponding audio file plays, at which point the two audio files need to smoothly crossfade.1.jpg displayed => 1.mp3 fades in and plays.
I want to make a little app, .swf, that has a bunch of buttons on them - each button corresponds to a string of text...
So let's say, the buttons are marked as "Rd" "St" "Ln" etc...
When they click on the button, I want it to add that listing to the dynamic field box so it will look something like this
*User clicks on Rd button and "ROAD" pops up in the dynamic text box - User then clicks the "Ln" buttons, and then the dynamic text box changes to "ROAD/LANE"
User decides they don't want to use road, so they click on "Rd" button again, and the dynamic box reads "LANE" - user then wants to add "st" so they click on the corresponding button and now the text field reads "LANE//ROAD"
I have managed to get data out from Mysql database. All it returns to me are: 1) Name of the button 2) Where it link to 3) Number of Buttons for the menu
So now, how can I build a menu of buttons such that I can display according to the database return on the number of buttons? I have already create a movieclip which is the image of a single button. With dynamic text on top of the button in the movieclip.
I just need to loop it thru the number of buttons and display the buttons on screen. But I can't seems to get it right. I have looked through the XML dynamic menu but it's not very similar to mine as I'm using PHP script to connect to the database.
I am dynamically adding a set of grid lines to a movieclip using a for loop. And I was wondering how I go about removing all of them so that I can add another set of grid lines to the same movieclip.This may sound weird but what I am doing is dynamically creating a table from an array and I wanted to dynamically add gridlines in between the table entries depending on how many entries there are in the array. I got this to work fine but when you go from one table with more entries to a table with less then the grid lines from the longer table are still there.Hence I want to be able to remove all the grid line instances before creating the next table.

I am new to AS3, I am creating a gallery and stuck on a place. [URL]. Requirements: 1.) Need a nice loop for loading all thumbs, most important it should be physically separated, should not be looped via code. 2.) When I click on 1st button I must load first 4 thumbnails (which is already loaded), and with 2nd button it must load next 4 thumbnails from xml file, similarly with 3rd.
Our client has tasked to dynamically generate grids with different size boxes. The grid should not have defined edges, but each movieclip should have a certain defined border. I can almost emulate this, but sometimes my boxes will overlap, and that's a dealbreaker. If I start hitTesting it works up until I try it with 55+ movieclips, then I fear that the script could freeze. Here's the code that works, but may freeze at times. How can I optimize this so that stack overflow errors can't happen?

Im making a game, and im very new to this, so please explain as good as you can. I have started with making the background which is a simple world map. I put in script so you can scroll around the map with the arrow keys. Now this will be a wargame, so i need some kinda grid over the map, like buttons of 50x50 placed all over the map, like the board game Risk for an example, so people can fight for territory. I tried doing this with buttons but made the game file very large, and it used to much ram.
I've set up a simple enter frame loop to adjust the alpha on a grid of movie clips ("bubbles") using a distance formula from the mouse pointer.I've got a hunch that while this works fine, there's a more efficient or processor friendly way to do it.

I'm currently working with the OLAPDataGrid component and got stuck at a relatively simple task: I want to style the last row of the grid differently from the rest, so my cell item renderer needs to know whether he's rendering the last row with content in the overall grid, including those rows currently not rendered because they are outside the visible grid space. AdvancedGridListData's rowIndex property only gets me the row index of the renderer relative to the range of visible grid rows, i.e. when I scroll down the grid, a data item with an index greater than 0 gets the rpw index = 0.
I need to create a simple multiplication grid where children will fill the grid. Its an empty grid at the begining, when they start the time start as well.Its a grid of 10 x 10. when they enter the last number, the grid should show what they did wrong and the time they spend. Whenever I add paddingRight to a column in the flex grid, it adds the padding to the header as well.Is anyone familiar with how I can add paddingRight just to the column and not to the header? Below is the column code where I was specifying the padding.
I really like the thumbnail gallery for its simplicity and beauty. But I would like to ad or vertical scroller (I'm unable to find it here too, maybe I'm blind, just I'm more at the end of my seeking options) or a make a grid thumbnails, that will show 2 columns of thumbs and 5 pictures in each columns, then under the 2 columns i would like to ad a sort of arrow or button that if my gallery have more then 10 pictures it will go on the next thumbnail list. I'm not looking for any extra fading effects or special movements. Just would love to have a single thumbnail grid on side, with option to have lists of thumbnails by 10 if there is more then 10 pictures or so.
I have a little problem with a loop. I recieve som data from a database and gets it back as an array. I then use a loop to add movieclips dynamicly and this works fine to, but if i try to trace the id from an onRelease function i get an undefines, but when i dot it outside the onRelease it works fine. This is the code. Its in a class by the way.

I'm building a small editor that allows users to place electrical components onto a grid so that they can see how electricity works.
