I know how to pass a value to a class that need to be called, but how to call a class that returns a value?
can someone show me how to call it and how to write the class that returns a number?
I'm having some troubles with the use of interface and inheritance in AS3. I've done lots of OOP in the past and what I'm trying to do seems obvious to me, but doesn't work in AS3. The question is : Is it possible to override a function that return an Object of class A, and make it return an Object of Class B which extends A ? It seems not to be possible, since I'm getting a signature error in Flash, when compiling. For example, the following set of class do not compile (the code in function definition doesn't matter):

I could push these numbers into array and then sort that array numeric to get the highest number, but is there an even shorter way to return the highest number from these strings?
I found myself loading a new XML file every day and so decided to create a small class that will load the xml file and return it.The class is loading the file but when i try to return it to a new xml object in the document class it doesnt load it.I think that it's something to with the return being in a nested function but i tried a few ways and non seems to work.

View 2 RepliesI'm completely useless at maths due to paying no attention whatsoever to it in school when I was a kid so forgive my lack of knowledge of basic terminology.I need a mathematical function that will return a number based on a graph that starts at 0, curves to (eg.) 100 and then curves back down to 0. I have a feeling it has something to do with Math.sin or somesuch wizardry but am not sure.Basically, I want to feed it a number between (eg.) 0 - 60 and for it to return a number on aforementioned curve. The purpose of this is to be applied as a lateral force on some basic ball physics. The idea of the 'curve' is that (depending on timing of the shot) there will be a 'sweetspot' in the timing.

I want a function to fire at a certain increment of a given var number, without having to say if (var >= 1000 && <= 2000 || var > = 2000 && <=5500){ etc etc etc. for example I want it to fire when it gets past 1000, then fire again when it gets past 2400 so on, and so fourth. I have a Document class that instantiates a class named Other. I need to call a function in the Other class from the Document class.I'm getting this error: Call to a possibly undefined method OtherFunction through a reference with static type Other.I have read online that you need to use make the functions static or use a getter function but I'm unclear how to do that. I am writing a method in a FileIO class called returnBMP()
The idea is: I want to pass it a file name, and I want it to return a Bitmap. ( not a loader )
The problem is that the only way I know how to pull a bitmap out of a loader is by creating an eventListener on the contentLoaderInfo for COMPLETE.
That just doesn't work in a return function. the return is executed before the bitmap is loaded. I get a null..

I have trace statements in eveything and from this I know the despatcher in TellAllModeChangeToStudent is being called.The problem is that the listener in the main.as is not calling the function exp.I cant see why and I dont know how to check if the listener is actually seeing the dispatch event?

basically, what it does is when i click, a block box (textholder), fades in, then after a few seconds (in this case, 2), it fades out again.. it works fine on the first click, but after more clicks, the interval duration seems to be getting smaller, up to a point where it is zero, and nothing happens.
and I need to use another setInterval() function (to call the changeTxt() function), will that affect the setInterval function i have up there now? i've linked an swf, to better show what i mean. [URL]
I want to have data called up when a certain number is entered, like a html page with text and pictures. If the correct item # is entered, the information is pulled up. Is this a good application for flash and actionscript? or for something like javascript and ajax? I'm brand new to both, but i'm very willing to learn.
