ActionScript 2.0 :: [Flash 8 Pro] Load Random Array Element And Loop For Random Intervals?

Sep 30, 2006

I want a movieclip consisting of a dynamic text box that, from the time it's loaded onto the stage, loads a randomly selected text string from an array, and continues to loop until the clip is removed from the stage. I also want the text strings to appear in the text box for random intervals between 500 and 3000 milliseconds.

While I've found tutorials here and elsewhere on loading one element from an array, usually triggered by a button, I don't know how to combine/alter it with the other elements.So I want this movieclip on the stage randomly flashing phrases from an array, some for a barely perceptible time, and others for a readable time.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Changing Gradient In Sprite From Library

Apr 4, 2009

I would like to be able to make changes to a colour gradient of a sprite from my library, as opposed to one drawn dynamically. So the code I thought would look something like this:

Code:
var radType:String = GradientType.RADIAL;
var radMatrix:Matrix = new Matrix();
radMatrix.createGradientBox(120,120);
var radColours:Array = [0x3174d0, 0x15396f];
var radAlphas:Array = [1, 1];
var radRatios:Array = [0, 255];
var myLibrarySprite:spriteInLibrary = new spriteInLibrary();
myLibrarySprite.graphics.beginGradientFill(radType, radColours, radAlphas, radRatios,radMatrix);
addChild(myLibrarySprite);

I've been using essentially this code (plus a bit for say drawing a square) happily to gradient fill sprites that are dynamically drawn. I don't get any errors from this.
I have tried adding myLibrarySprite.graphics.clear() but that does not make a difference.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Changing Width Of Sprite Seems To Change Height Too?

Feb 5, 2009

Here is some code I have.

[code]
_buttonUnderline = new Sprite();

When the Tween takes place though it not only changes the width, it changes the height as if it were scaling it up in both directions. Why does this behavior take place? And how can I get it so that only the width changes? I have also tried using scaleX as the property but it does the same thing.

Actionscript 3 :: Change Color Of Sprite Without Changing Border?

Jul 1, 2010

I have this [code]...

And It seems to work but this is creating a new rect. Which I do not want.

And I have tried ColorTransform, and that changes everything, even the border, which is not what I wanted. And I am not able to colortransform and then set the border color.

So how can I change the color of a sprite without changing the border color?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding Scrollbar To Sprite Inside / Outside For Loop?

Nov 26, 2009

I'm currently having trouble on integrating a scrollbar that I downloaded from Warm Forest Flash. I built a XML gallery that is going out of the boundary of height of 466 pixels. The thumbnails that are out of the boundary are still visible. On top of that, I tried to add the scrollbar to the sprites inside and outside the for loop, but sadly it doesn't appear. For the height thing, can I set the size of the ULLoader? Or should I just use a mask or something?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating A Sprite And Run A Loop Create 100 Instances And Add Them To Stage

var sp:Sprite = new Sprite();
sp.graphics.beginFill(0xFF88CC);
sp.graphics.drawCircle(0, 0, 50);

[Code]....

however, I realize even tho im looping that addChild method, its still adding sp, so do I add a new naming convention in the loop, or should I be adding these instances to another display object.... this seems like such a simple thing to do yet I cant figure it out, I also want to randomize the x and y, but this first seems to be the issue I need to address.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Changing Text Of A Text Field Within A Sprite?

Oct 21, 2009

Is it possible to change the text property of a text field that is contained within a sprite? I've been trying but can't come up with the right syntax. Here is what I'm doing:

I've created a sprite named "lessonSprite" and added a text field to it in one function. Now, in another function, I'd like to change the text in the field.

I've tried to use this:

lessonSprite.titleField.text = xmlLsnContent.attribute("title");

where "titleField" is the name of the field added to the sprite "lessonSprite" in an earlier function.

When I try to change play once/loop/single frame setting it jumps back to the previous setting. I am trying to simply modify this on a keyframe in the symbol's layer on the main stage. I've experienced this on multiple occasions, but can't get the workaround this time. I know I can do what I am attempting. In fact, I do it at a couple of spots earlier in this symbol's instance without problems.

I pass the object in through e:Event (which comes from an event listener on the stage) and speed which gets a random number between a high and low value.When I run it, it of course gets a new random number every frame.
