ActionScript 3.0 :: Close A Filereference Browse Dialog Box?
Feb 8, 2011is there a way to forcibly close the browse dialog box that is opened by my_filereference.browse() ?
filereference.cancel() does not close the box.

Feb 8, 2011I am using a filereference.browse box so that users can upload images.although the browse box has a cancel button on it, I am also creating an mc_cancel button ( just in case the user's OS's browse does something funny ).currently, when mc_cancel is pressed, I call my_file_ref.cancel() ... but it doesn't actually close the box ... is it supposed too?

Unfortunately, I don't enforce that the button cannot be clicked while the dialog box to browse file is opened, so I get "Error: Error #2041: Only one file browsing session may be performed at a time." if I click on the button while the pop up dialog box is up.A solution that I really like is the one that Google Docs has. It does not let you click on their button, above "Select files to upload" while the pop up dialog box is showed. Actually, this dialog box has a sort of priority: You can't click ANYWHERE on the page before you select files or cancel on this dialog box.I would like to have the same behavior, not let the users click anywhere in my web page until this dialog box is done, just like Google Docs does it, but I can't seem to find how.

May 25, 2010I am trying to call the browse() method of the FileReference class from JavaScript (a user clicks on a text that uses the ExternalInterface to call a method in Flash).Unfortunately, I receive an error that tells me it has to be a direct action of the user (like clicking a button). Nov 4, 2009I'm having troubles with a contact form containing two file uploads (two buttons with Filereference.browse()-call). On all of my computers, the form works fine (Mac + PC); my client, however, reports a 20-second delay on opening the second browse dialog box (the first one opens right away). Client is on a Mac with latest Flash player version. If he double-clicks it, there is no delay. If he first clicks the second button, the delay is on the first.

Nov 9, 2009I have created an image cropper application that upload an image, crop it and generates an jpg to server.BUT, this works perfectly well locally at my Mac at work, online on the server, but not locally at my laptop at home???Why and what the *** can I do?Everything seems fine. I click browse, and the fileReference opens the finder dialog box. But whatever I press, doubleclick the image, press select etc, flash tracks this as if I clicked cancel. The fileRef.onCancel activates, insted of the onSelect???Could it be something wrong with my flash program? Is it anything I can do to fix this (change somthing in the preferenced etc.)?

Dec 22, 2009I know very little about Flash so I apologize in advance for asking what is possibly a dumb question, although I did a fair bit of research before posting. Our current Flash app, written in AS3.0, is able to display a standard OS browse dialog for the purpose of allowing a user to select files. We are using [URL] to display this dialog.
The documentation for FileReferenceList states that only files could be selected. The new requirement is to allow the user to select directories as well as files. Afterward it would be very nice, but not required, to be able to get a recursive list of all the files in the selected directory. Is it possible to implement this in Flash running inside a browser? The closest I've seen so far is [URL] which does what I want but it only seems to work inside Adobe AIR and is not exposed to the browser.

Sep 17, 2009We have noticed a possible bug in the Flash Player within Mac's latest OS version Snow Leopard.
When a Browse for file dialog is initiated, upon returning to the browser. It's as if there is a layer above the flash app which stops interaction with the mouse. MouseOver events no longer take place and a click is require to remove this layer. If you move your mouse at all after the click this invisible layer returns limiting interaction.
We have tested this with 2 macs running snow leopard and the latest Flash Player. And also verified it is not an issue on Mac OSX previous to Snow Leopard.
It seems to effect only FF and Safari. Opera functions correctly.. Here is a video we created documenting the problem: [URL]
We have not had any customers complain about this yet. But if it's infact a bug, it's just a matter of time.

Mar 25, 2011I have an application already created that will upload files successfully, with a progress bar and completion notices and am very happy with the process, but sometimes people upload a file with the same name as an existing file. Is there a way to change the name of the destination file on my server to something more standard during the upload process? I have been using a fileReference.Browse() with capturing all my event handlers through there.

- browse local file with button.browse
- select one and save it as a FileReference.
- then we do FileReference.load() then bind the data to our image control.
- after we make a rotation on it and change the data of image.
- and to finish we upload it to a server.
To change the data of image i get the matrix of the displayed image and transform it then i re-use the new matrix and bind it to my old image:

Now the mater is that i really don't know how to send the data as a file to my server cause its not stored in the FileReference and data inside FileReference is readOnly so we can't change it or create a new, so i can't use .upload();.Then i tried HttpService.send but i can't figure out how you send a file and not a mxml.
Flash :: Flex FileReference.browse() Stops Playback On Some Players
May 31, 2010We have an issue were the server session associated with a Flex client times out when the browse file dialog is open for a time longer then the configured session timeout. It seems that on some players, the playback is stopped when browse or download on a FileReference is executing. This also causes remote calls to be blocked and hence our manual keep-alive messages are not sent to the server, resulting in a session timeout. I searched for some info on this in the docs and found a notice of it, but it does not explicitly list the players it does (not) work. Would anyone know were I could find a complete list?

Once completed, I'd like for the video to be put on a server and a link send to the guest. I've got the link part working, but am not sure how to get the file up to the server automagically.

My current problem is this: I have a small file download program. When the user clicks a button, it will pop-up the Save As dialog. The problem is, if the user closes the Firefox window, the dialog stays open. And when the user wants to close that dialog, he or she can't anymore. It won't respond. The only way is to kill the plugin process (on Linux anyway).
So is there a way to monitor opened file dialogs?
I've tried to get the browser to notify the Flash app that it's closing, which works great. The problem is even if the app knows it should close the file dialog, it can't...I've tried setting the FileReference to null, using delete on it, calling the garbage collector, etc., nothing seems to have any control on that dialog.
