ActionScript 3.0 :: CurrentFrame "realtime" Reported / Captured

Jan 25, 2011

We (myPartner & i) have created a AS3 .fla file with 6 movieClips that play in succession. We are ready for a content review of our work by the biology experts (this is a presentation of protein synthesis). Each MC covers (in great chemical detail) a step in that process for bacteria. I would like to include a text line (dynamic text) at the bottom of the draft-Protein Synthesis FLASH movie that will enable our biology reviewers to cite "the movie clip" and the specific frame of the movieClip that they wish to comment (or correct us) on. For example: ID = mcID:frameID

I am not able to find a way to get the "realtime" currentFrame value to print to the stage. Yes - I can get the currentFrame to show on the stage at the beginning of each movieClip (frame 1 or 2) -- but, I am at a loss to get "realtime" currentFrame information. Some MovieClips have over 900 frames. And, I have play & stop buttons included in the interface.

ActionScript 3.0 :: TextField Width Reported Incorrectly?

Mar 5, 2009

I've been working with a marginally subclassed form of a TextField, which I need to display with embedded fonts. I'm noticing some surprising behaviour with the width property when embedded fonts are enabled, which is causing me trouble further on in my code.Due to the way I am animating text, I am displaying each word in a separate TextField (or Word object, as I've subclassed it). I then reassemble a line of text with even spacing, and to that I need to know the width of each word, so that following words will begin at the correct x-position. Before I began to use embedded fonts, the width was reported accurately, as expected, but once I enable embedding, the width property is reported as a much lower valueI've included the constructor for my Word object, which shows some traces for debugging

PHP Code:
public function Word(wText:String, partOfSpeech:String, chunkTag:String) {
text = wText;

Actionscript 3 - Save Video Captured From Webcam Using Flash?

Dec 29, 2009

I'd like to use Flash to capure video from the user's webcam and then save it on the same server that hosts the Flash file. The web server will be running ASP.Net technology. Lot of searches yielded the same lines of code to start a webcam capture using Flash. I can't find anything that sends that captured video back to a server.

I can find lots of blog and forum posts that imply 3rd party software or Flash Communication Server is required to collect it on the server, but I don't understand why. It seems like Flash ought to be able to capture some video and send it as an HTTP post to the same server that hosts the Flash file. That's pretty basic Flash/webcam functionality, right? It seems like we don't need to introduce 3rd party dependencies just yet.

Actionscript 3 :: Directly Upload Video Captured From Webcam?

Aug 3, 2011

I'm working on a site, which needs to have a feature of users capturing their opinions about a specific topic with their webcam, and uploading them to the server. After a short research, and viewing similar questions like this one I ran out of possibilities:

I cannot use Flash Media Server (out of budget) I cannot use Red5, as the server where the app will be hosted is not able to build or install it. (our server guy told me that Red5 was last updated in 2007, and he got some errors which I include below (in case that someone would have an idea how to fix it) )

red5 install errors:

Actionscript 3 :: Webcam Captured Image Resolution / Size

Mar 9, 2012

I have been having a bit of trouble with AS3 and webcams. I have a script that connects to a webcam and then sends its output to a php script that saves the captured image. This works all except for one problem. It seems that the maximum resolution allowed for the actual Camera object is 320x240. I went to the extreme of hooking a Canon 60D up as a webcam because I have a normal webcam that is supposed to have max resolution of 1280x720 and all I can get is a 320x240 image from it. What I have found so far is the max I can get out of the Canon is also 320x240. Maybe I have been looking at this to long but I am stumped. Below is a sample of the action script where videoCapture should be 1024x768. What happens instead is a 1024x768 image is created with a black background and in the top left is a 320x240 image from videoCapture. I could obviously resize this but that would defeat the purpose being poor quality. Is there something I am missing here or maybe some limitation of Flash even?

Actionscript 3 :: Post-processing Captured Video, Creating Slow Motion?

Apr 25, 2011

I have an interesting project wherein I need to allow users to capture video of themselves with a webcam at a kiosk, after which I email them a link to their video. The trick is the resulting video needs to be a 'slow motion' version of the captured video. So for example, if someone creates a 2 minute movie, the resulting movie will be 4 minutes.I'd like to build this in Flex / AS3 if possible. I don't have issues capturing the video and storing it / generating and emailing a link, but slowing down the video is the real mind bender. I'm unsure how to approach 'batch post-processing' a set of videos using Adobe tools

Flash :: Eliminate The Difference Between Captured Bitmap Data And Filled FXG Paths?

Feb 13, 2012

I am trying to find a way to avoid using FXG in one of my applications but run into a problem where the captured bitmap is not exactly the same as the original filled FXG paths.Originally, let's say I have a 3 shapes that are adjacent to each other (you can imagine a pie chart with 3 slices). I used "cutImage" function below to capture the filled bitmap data and display the 3 pictures. However, we discovered that there is a 1 pixel gap on the side where each shape meets the other shapes. Not sure if there is any relationship, but the captured bitmap is exactly the same as displaying the filled path directly but with "cacheAsBitmap" set to true. If we just display the filled paths with cacheAsBitmap set to false, there are no gaps between the shapes

Media Server :: Using FMS As Realtime Video Monitoring

Jan 5, 2011

I have some experience with FMS and Red5 development for simple online video publishing application, I am not sure if FMS is viable for my new application). Here is the requirement

1. I need record real-time video to disk file from a 8-way video-capture-card.(the card is supported by FMS). The recording procedure starts just after the system startup without any manul operation by user. In another words, I need the recording procedure start with the Windows automatically without interaction

2. If the answer to my first question is YES, then: If the FMS record videos from a 8-way video-capture-card, with 640pxX480px each way. What is the minimal requirement on the hardware? A machine with 2.0GHz CPU with 512MB, is it enough?

3. What is the best practice do you think to organization the 7x24 video record files?

Flash - Implementing Realtime Connection Between Players

Oct 11, 2011

I need to implement a realtime connection between 2 or more players, that will play a Flash game. I've read that RTMFP is a good choice to make this connection the best possible (were best=less lag between actions), but, I am quite new to this kind of things, what documentation/tutorial/guide you think would be the best to get started and finally make a good implementation of RTMFP?

(Also, I read that there are differents servers or frameworks that provide the same, like Cirrus, Red5, etc, what pros and contras have this?, taking cost into account). I was reading the adobe documentation, there is an example too, but I'd love to see some more flash game based example, even a very basic one, so I can extend that functionality and start making tests. I got it working, now, I need to know how to make a webservice for the peer ID interconnection.
