Everytime I google this question I see confusing information about masks and blends, none of which seems to directly apply to what I think should be an easy thing... There are three Sprites involved here...the lowest layer sprite is pretty much a background. I want to overlay a translucent Sprite on top of the background and then I want the third, top-most Sprite to act as a hole, so that the area inside the third Sprite is completely transparent, so that the background sprite is completely visible. How would I go about doing this dynamically (i.e. dynamically drawing the masking sprite and hole using the Actionscript graphics calls)?
Flash draws borders centered on the edge of shapes. Is there an AS3 way to draw a border all inside a shape? I've got an image gallery and I'd like to create a rollover effect with a 4px border growing inside the thumbs. I can do it via timeline, but I'd like to do it via AS.
I want to add a border around my mask. I don't know if I can add the border directly to the mask or if I need to create something new and position it. I imagine if the border was part of the mask it wouldnt show up? Anyway I added lineStyle to my roomMask and I get this error that doesn't make any sense to me:1061: Call to a possibly undefined method lineStyle through a reference with static type flash.display:Sprite.
ActionScript Code: //create a mask to cover the room container //to hide the floor outside edges
Is it possible to draw a border around an arbitrary Shape (or Sprite) dynamically with ActionScript? From the IDE is really easy, just select the line color and click the Shape with the paint tool (S).
I am drawing a rectangle at 0,0 with a line-style-thickness of 4px. It has height 100% and width 50%. The right-hand edge has a border 4px wide, but all 3 other sides are only 2px, suggesting the mid-point of the edge is classed as the border. Why isn't the edge drawn 'inside' the rectangle?
And It seems to work but this is creating a new rect. Which I do not want.
And I have tried ColorTransform, and that changes everything, even the border, which is not what I wanted. And I am not able to colortransform and then set the border color.
So how can I change the color of a sprite without changing the border color?
i am loading JPG images into movie clips, then drawing a border around them with this code:
Code: var frameColor:Number = 0xffffff; var lineThick:Number = 1;[code]..............
i am resizing the movieclips (and thus the contained pictures) down to 160 x 120, but those pixel values didn't work in my lineTo statements. i multiplied them by 3, using 480 and 360 and it works better. however, the behavior isn't consistent. i am attaching a picture so you can see how the border is too tall on some of the images.so, is there a better way to use pixel dimensions with lineTo? does the scaling factor between flash vector units and pixels change between movieclips depending on what content i load into the movie clip?
I'm trying to make a little program. It works right now by drawing the top shape to the dark gray area, where it then copies itself and changes color. The new shape can be re-dragged as well. What I want to do now is add a dynamic border when I click on the new object, I want the box to adjust to an appropriate size. And on mouse release I want the selection border to disappear on the new shape. I want the selection border to be dashed much like you find in many of Adobe's programs, if at all possible. Attached is my .fla file
I'm trying to debug AS3 code on production. I have no access to trace(), can't write to disk or open a socket. What I want is to display something on screen.
With AS2 I could just access _root and create a text field with my trace data.
how I can pull this off with AS3? My class extends Object, it is not a sprite and is never added to a parent display object.
I have two options and I want to know whats faster. I have a pool of 1000 sprites objects in as3 on screen. When its needed each sprite has to resize itself. I can 1- Make each sprite a simple container to use graphics to draw a rectangle, that is, call a 'spriteInstance.graphics.' ,draw the rectangle and on each 'refresh', I do graphics.clear and redraw the rectangle but with the new size, this for each sprite. or 2- Create each sprite with a border and on each refresh, resize it Whats better?
I have a program that dynamically draws a polygon wherever the user clicks on the screen. (using lineto, moveto) However this polygon is always behind the other symbol objects on the screen even though its added last in the childlist. Is there an issue with depth when drawing symbols vs. drawing with lines? How can I ensure my dynamic object will display in front?
I bought a flash site template that loads xml driven swfs inside the main swf as different menu items are clicked. The modules that come with the template work fine, but I don't know how to add a third party xml driven swf, so that it shows up properly. While the third party swf works fine as a standalone, the embedded version loads just an empty movie.
I created a class, extended the sprite class, and now in the constructor I am trying to set the Sprite's width and height properties which are inherited from the DisplayObject. However, after I set this.width and this.height, and print the values, I get 0 for both.
What the heck is going on? When I view the livedocs I see that DisplayObject has width and height listed as public properties. I have been able to instantiate a Sprite directly, and set the width and height after it's been instantiated, so I don't get it.
package { import flash.display.*; public class ScrollBar extends Sprite {[code].....
I'm doing a simple rotation on a sprite but there's a weird behavior where the sprite does not rotate around it's top left. I think I'm rotating along the top left of the test class instead of the sprite child. I would like to rotate the rectangle around it's top left corner (kinda like a clock hand). The code is pretty short so I'll let the code + pictures explain my problem:
package { import flash.display.Sprite;
[Code]....
I've read a lot of stuff about rotating around a fixed point, I've tried doing it with movieclips instead of sprites, I even copy pasted a tutorial on rotation and nothing works.
Then the numericStepper is drawn as if it is squished to 20% its normal height. If I pre-set mySprite width and height before adding the numericstepper, the trace output is 0,0 after adding it and it is not displayed at all. Is there some way I can make the sprite only adjust to correctly fit the numericStepper OR resize it afterwards without distorting the numericStepper component?
Basically I've got a reasonably complex drawing object in a fla and I want to reproduce it in a class definition using the drawing api. However obviously this is a tedious task, so is there some trick or automated method of doing this?
Last time I needed to do this it was a drawing of an arrow and I ended up writing down x,y,width,height values for everything but this one has curves in it which I don't have experience with drawing anyway.
I cannot get this to work. Without the "var drawing", "var drawing being true or false" and the "if statement", it works fine. But I need to add the "var drawing" so that you can only draw if you turn it on by pressing the "draw_btn" button. Note, I do not get an error, the script "apparently" contains no errors. Here is the code:
ActionScript Code: var drawing = false _root.createEmptyMovieClip("myLine", 0);
I've created a drawing tool which allows the user to draw on the canvas, the problem is that if I try to draw over a movieclip nothing happens. Is there a way I can allow for the user to draw over movieclips? For example if I had a background of paper?
Here's the code I'm using for it:
// This code is for drawing the lines on the page //1. var drawingLine:MovieClip = new MovieClip(); addChildAt(drawingLine,0);
first i have 2 sprite.. it`s mcproduct sprite and mcproductpane sprite . mcproductpane is a parent of mcproduct sprite.. so inside mcproductpane there a several mcproduct sprite.this is a script of mc prodcut
PHP Code:
[Code]...
The problem is i want to set a button in here(mcproductpane sprite), this button will unload / make dissappear an image that i load using loader class in mcproduct sprite..how can i make this happen?when i want to make a button in mcproductpane sprite which the function of the button it`s to unload/make an image that i load using loader class in mcproduct sprite disappear.
I need to draw on stage about 40,000 4x4 squares each a different color. The color is determined by an xml file. I have this working in as2 and have converted it to as3 the problem is the amount of time it takes to draw is causing cs4 to time out. I have extended the script time out to 60 seconds. In cs3 as2 it would draw the squares in about 15 seconds. I was hoping as3 cs4 would improve performance but seems to be the opposite. I have tried several methods such as adding children and various drawing variations. the bellow seems to work the best, but is still causing flash to crash.
Is it possible to set the height of the sprite depending on the height of an textfield inside that sprite? I'm creating a box with a textfield inside it, but I want the box to be sized depending of how much text it is in the textfield..
I have a brick class where I have created a rectangle using flash.display.graphics.I am using this brick class to create a grid of 10 X 10 in another class called grid using new brick() in a for loop.I have another class called ball where I have created a circle with flash.display.graphics.The problem is that I want to remove / destroy individual bricks when the ball hits the bricks on Event.ENTER_FRAME which is not happening.the error I get is shown only for the last brick that is created in a for loop.ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller.
