ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Load A SWF That Was Compiled From An Fla With A Linked External Class File

Apr 6, 2009

I am dynamically loading external SWFs in a Main Fla in response to clicks on a menu.

The loading code is standard and works fine for all of the SWFs except one. When I try to load it I get the following error: Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2035: URL Not Found.

I am certain that the URL to the problem SWF is correct. The SWF itself doesn't load any other SWFs or images. The problem SWF is linked to an external class file and compiled with it. i.e. in the properties panel of the main timeline of the problem SWF's Fla I have entered the path to the external class.

1. there is no problem compiling this SWF with the class (it works fine by itself)2. if I remove the external class from the properties panel and don't use it the resulting SWF imports without a problem into the Main Fla mentioned before So the problem seems to be the fact that the external class is linked in the properties panel. Is this a path problem?

AS3 :: Flash - How Are SWFs Are Compiled From External .as Class Files

Oct 5, 2011

In the Flash app I'm building, I have a "main" SWF that will load a variety of "child" SWFs.

All of the AS3 code for both the main SWF and child SWFs is contained in external .as class files.

In other words, each movie has it's own document class .as file.

There are also a number of .as class files for all of the common elements (e..g, UI buttons and controls).

So - for example - both my main SWF and all child SWFs use the "MyCommandButton" class; the code for this class is in MyCommandButton.as, which all SWFs reference (import).

Here's what I don't understand.

(Let's say that the code in MyCommandButton.as draws buttons that are red.)

First, I compile ALL of the child SWFs.

Next, I change MyCommandButton.as, so that the buttons it draws are blue, instead of red.

Then, I compile the main SWF.

When I run the app (main.swf), I would expect all of the buttons in the main SWF to be blue (since that's what MyCommandButton.as specified when main.swf was compiled), and all of the buttons in the child SWFs will be red (since that's what MyCommandButton.as specified when they were compiled.)

Instead, ALL of the buttons are blue, which means the change I made to MyCommandButton.as affected all of the child SWFs, even though I didn't recompile them.

Actionscript :: Load A SWF Compiled By Flex Into A SWF Compiled By Flash CS4

Apr 3, 2011

I compiled a simple AS3 project using Flex 3.5 (also tried Flex 4.1) to create a small swf which draws a simple red square on screen. Nothing too complex that requires special flashplayer support (see code below)

package
{
import flash.display.Sprite;
/**

[Code]....

and tried to load it into a AS2 swf I have compiled using Flash CS4. But that just didn't work. I don't get any errors when loading and the AS2 swf can load any swf, either compiled in AS2 or AS3 by Flash.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Load Text Dynamically With An External.txt File?

Sep 23, 2009

I'm trying to load text dynamically with an external.txt file. This works fine. The problem is formatting the test. For some reason, loading the text from an external file has complicated things a bit. Nothing formats the way I want it to...the text size doesn't even change.When I started with this movie, I had my copy in a string in the AS code and was able to format the text color, font, size, textbox width and height as well. No problems. That's issue #1.

Issue #2 : you'll notice I'm using the greensock classes to animate a movieclip (also has text in it). I'm using a mask layer over the MC. When I try running the movie, my animation works fine, but none of my text loads...and it doesn't matter if it's a text string in the code or an external text doc. I was told that I need to embed the font..which I have the code for, as you'll see below..but it did nothing.

Code:
import gs.*;
import gs.easing.*
import gs.utils.TransformMatrixProxy;

ActionScript 2.0 :: Load Variable Data From An External XML File And Dynamically Displays The Item Names In A Menu - Arrays - Functions

May 18, 2005

I have been working on a Flash movie that loads variable data from an external XML file and dynamically displays the item names in a menu which may then be clicked to display other dynamically-loaded content that corresponds to the menu item that was clicked. I have now come to a standstill in the project as there is something I'd like to achieve but simply cannot work out how. This is my first attempt at working with XML in Flash and one of my early attempts at using variables. What I'm trying to achieve is; once the user has viewed the item's content, they can simply click "next" and "previous" buttons to display all of the content for the next or previous items in the XML document.

I know it probably sounds simple and I'm sure some of you could achieve this in 5 minutes (!) but I can't get my head around some of the coding. I assume previousSibling and nextSibling would come into play here as well as some sort of functions which access arrays of data for the previous and next items, but I'm just not sure how to correctly put these things to use. Rather than post my code and example images of the stage up here on the forums, I've created an html page here: [URL]

I am trying to create a basic flash script to load an external swf file using MovieClipLoader class. Here's my code:

var myMCL:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
var myListener:Object = new Object();
myMCL.addListener(myListener);
myMCL.loadClip("splash.swf",5);

I simply copied it from a tutorial. Unfortunately it throws an error message as follows:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Scaleform Workaround - Create File That Could Dynamically Load File?

Jan 18, 2011

Having got into flash about a year ago, I have a fairly good understanding of as3, but I have never had any reason to learn as2. For an upcoming project, we were looking to use Scaleform GFx, with the UDK. (Unreal Development Kit) Trouble is, Scaleform only supports as2. From what I've been told, as3 is supposed to be better in just about every way, so I really don't want to learn a language that?s most likely on the way out, if I have any other options.

Is there any converters out there, that can convert script from as3 to as2? Or another workaround possibility, since flash communicates with the UDK by means of just calling a function, could I create an as2 file that could dynamically load an as3 file?

ActionScript 3.0 :: External As Files Not Being Compiled Into Swf?

Jun 6, 2010

I'm using Flash cs3. I have an as3 file next to my fla file which contains all the specific actionscript for that file. Then, through the source path in the fla's "Publish" settings I am pointing to an external folder with all the other necessary classes.When I press control + enter to compile the file it works fine. But when I try to see the published file embedded in a webpage on another computer, the swf won't display in either chrome or firefox. It will display in IE though. If I copy all the actionscript files into the same folder as the swf, the swf will display in all browsers. Is there no way to have the script in external as files to compile into the published swf file?

Actionscript 3.0 :: Using Loader With Document Class Compiled Swfs

Aug 25, 2009

I know that typically, a loader class normally can load in either a swf or an image file (like a jpeg), but there were some swf files that just would not load for some odd reason. So I decided to do some trial and error tests and discovered that the problem was coming from swfs that were compiled from flex.

At this point I decided to try a different approach and compile from flash instead using the .as file as a document class in a blank fla. I received the same effect of it not being loaded. It could not have possibly been a coding problem with the swfs compiled from flex; they were working fine on release-builds.

I've come to the conclusion that the problem is not with flex or flash, but just compiling swf from a document class. I did more research into the problem, and I only found that document class compiled swfs have only 2 frames (first one being the preloader, and the second being everything else). They had some example codes on using the loader class with these swfs, but the code only demonstrates with traces when its loaded; they don't actually explain or show how to make the swf viewable the way it should.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating A New Instance Fails When Base Class Is Assigned To An External Class File?

Jul 22, 2009

I'm trying to create a new instance of a MovieClip when the original one has been used. Would sound easy enough. Just use: var

instanceName:ClassName = new ClassName();

the class name/mc in the library im trying to duplicate is MCg1 so

var instanceName:MCg1 = new MCg1(); right?

However, the particular object in the library i'm trying to duplicate has a base class that is an external class file (just to control it's drag drop functionality)... i.e baseclass is not set to the standard flash.display.MovieClip, or whatever the case maybe. So i end out with a: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Creating MovieClip From Library With External Class

Jun 10, 2010

I am making a Thumbnail class which is part of my Photo Gallery Package that I am building with the intent of automatically generating my thumbnails. I do not want to limit myself to just AS3 animations, I would also like the ability to use timeline animations. I have a system using "in" and "out" for frame labels which I find very efficient and I get stuff done quickly. So I created the thumbnails holder MovieClip with the animations and have it linked in my Library, however, when I try to pass it to my Thumbnail Class, I only get one instance and I need to create several instances.

Document Class
ActionScript Code:
var thumbCont:mcThumb = new mcThumb();
thumbNails = new Thumbnails(thumbCont);

Thumbnails Class
ActionScript Code:
var thumbContainer:MovieClip;
public function Thumbnails(thumbCont:MovieClip,) {
thumbContainer = thumbCont;
}private function createThumbs():void {
for (var i:int = 0; i < aThumbs.length; i++) {
[Code] .....

I eliminated most of the additional stuff. What this does is that it doesn't create several thumbContainers, rather it just uses the one. So how would I be able to generate several of them? I can obviously create an Array with them and create them in my document class, but if I can avoid that and have my thumbnail class do it by itself, that would be perfect.
