How can i read the data while using a XMLSocket? Is it enough to use xmlSocket.toString() ?
I'm writing a flash chat program using XMLSocket.It's connecting and sending data just fine. The server is sending the data back just fine (I checked the packets on Ethereal), but Flash is just not receiving any data.[code]The server is a Java server written with the NIO classes.

this won't send the string "this string won't be sent" to the client(flash).
I am attempting to connect to a python twisted socket server with Flash using XMLSocket. The connect works fine, and so does the receive. However I can't send data to the server. Is there a specific format I should be using? The reason I ask is because I couldn't read any data with the XMLSocket until the data was in the form "something", that is, the data string had to be valid xml followed by the null character. Is there a trick to sending data?
I don't think this a cross site security problem, because if it was, I believe I wouldn't be able to connect or receive. I am able to connect to the server using telnet and a java client without issues. EDIT: I figured it out, the problem was my server needed to have the data sent to it end with"
I am having newbie problems with sockets. Flash sends data to my php server script fine, and my telnet client(s) all get updated. When I make an entry into a telnet client, all of the other clients update immediately as expected. In Flash however, the only time I receive data is when I press a key within flash.
Example: Press 'a' within Flash, flash traces a, telnet outputs a Press b in telnet, telnet outputs b, nothing within flash Press c in Flash, flash traces b, c, telnet traces c

I have a server written in C# (Visual C# .NET Framework), that I know for a fact works. When I run my Flash application, I am able to connect to the server (the server shows the message that a connection has been made), but I can't for the life of me get data to be received by the Flash application.

i am using flash cs5 with AS3 along with PHP 5, i am calling a https page and sending post data to it and retreiving the response, its working fine inside action script (FLASH CS5 IDE) but when i am embedded flash in html to use it from my web server (WAMP) then it is unable to send and receive data from https url.
i have turned on the mod_ssl module from php.ini for both php and apache.
but still there is no gain. can you advice me any method to control this thing with in action script 3, (i tried php curl but not useful) or the right way to do it, i want to post and receive data from https url from action script or php.
I have written a ac3 script to upload files to remote servers and it is working as expected with all the events.
From the server side script i am echoing some text according to the upload status and i want that status to be received in flash like response text in ajax.
Is it possible to receive response text from a server script after uploading a file.
Or it doesn't have to be a file upload yet i wanted to have the string echoed in the server side script as response text in flash.
If that is not possible like ajax or normal request and response then is there another ways of achieving that?

I made a server connection with AC3 and C, I need the client(AC3) to be able to send a 3 byte message to the server (C) and have the server return a resopnse. So far everything works except for the fact that the feedback isn't fast enough becuase AC3 just tests for data once and moves on instead of waiting like in C. I'm using a binary socket at the moment but I was wondering if there was any way to wait for new data before moving on
View 2 RepliesI've written some code that uses setTextFormat to apply formatting to textFields. I need to change it now so if a textfield has a particular title it adds to the formatting (capitalizing it). There's several workarounds I could use but ideally I would like to either create an override for the setTextFormat or textFormat classes that checks the name of the textfield and if it's a particular name before applying all the other specified formatting capitalises it. I know how to override a setter such as (width or height) but can't find any info on overriding a specific property.
View 2 RepliesI am using Flex to create a small form. All I have at the moment is a List component, that I want to populate with a list of font names.I am getting the fonts using Font.enumerateFonts(true);. This returns an array of flash.text.Font objects.
The Font objects have a fontName property that is a String of that fonts name.My problem is that I can't figure out how to bind the List's dataProvider to the fontName property of each of the Font objects in the Array.Is there a way to do this just with binding? and not creating a new array of Strings by looping through the Font objects?

First off I am new to using Flex, but I have pieced this app together with help from online tutorials and information. Basically my app is like a directory of names, addresses and so forth, but I also have additional fields of "week" and "day". What I have:
- I have 2 dynamic textfields: text1 (variable: outPut1) and text2 (variable: outPut2)
- I have 1 input textfield: (variable:inPut)
- I have 1 button
What I'm trying to do:
- When typing point1 in the input textfield and then pressing the button,(onRelease), outPut1 textfield should show the number 1 and outPut2 textfield should show 2.
- Similar, when typing point3 in the input textfield and pressing the button, outPut1 should show the number 5 and outPut2 should show the number -5.
-It is not only for these three points, it should be applicable with say 50.000 to 200.000 more of such points, each with different x and y values.
To sum it up:So Flash (with AS2) should screen the nodes or txt (for those point names) on what was inserted in the input textfield, then fill the corresponding attributes (XML) seperately in the textfields and all that after the button was pressed. The same deal if it was done with txt, if possible (have read that with txt, loading of data would be faster?).
I am doing a project that consists of AS3 in flash an importing an external xml data that will populate dynamic data in text fields in my flash project. The xml is all ready set up (pre existing) data. The structure of the XML Code looks like this:

My question to everyone is How do tell flash to pull specific dynamic data if all the datafields are exactly the same... I would think all data fields that are named have to be diffrent so when you script the code you are telling flash to go to that data source and pull from that record. If you have the same naming convention how does flash know which one to pull from if they all have the same name..

I have an sqlite db in an application and am stuck on how to pass the data that is retrieved from the db into multiple textboxes. I can get the first selection passed into the components just fine, but my problem comes in when I try to pass a second data selection into a different textbox while keeping the data from the previous selection the same in the first textbox.Basically, the user selects a recipe and that recipe is passed into textbox 1 Then another recipe is selected and that recipe is passed into textbox 2. *The recipes are selected from a different view, if that adds anything to the problem. After being selected, the view is returned to where the textboxes are.I'm not looking for someone to code this for me, but rather on how I would do it. I'm developing a diet checker that users enter their recipe into an input field and compares it to an external text file with a list variables of ingredients and then underlines or highlights certain ingredients that would not be good to eat.
I need to check this input box for certain words and see if there are specific words before or after those words.The word "egg" WOULD BE highlighted/underlined as a bad ingredient but "egg white" would NOT have the "egg" part highlighted The word "fried chicken" WOULD BE highlighted/underlined but "baked chicken" or "broiled chicken" would NOT be highlighted The external variable text file lists the words I'm searching for and the words to replace them with but, the code I have cannot yet determine if the word "white" is after the word "egg" and then not have the "egg" part of the phrase underlined.
The specific webpage is this [url]... the user select a week and the app reads the "Date" colum and uses the numbers in the same line in a calc... But when i Import this webpage it displays all the text in the webpage... how can i solve this? Can i specify wich data to use?

And well... this is where I'm stumped. What I need to do is read "position" and "menu_name_ice" (or in fact any of the "menu_name_*" but let's start with the first one) and, using Kirupa's excellent tutorial, that worked just fine except I need to read just one "subject" at a time, not all of them (there are plenty more, all in the same syntax).I'm using "position" to determine the posting order of "menu_name_*" to the stage and "visible" to determine whether or not to do so.
