I want to be able to get the data contained in the "thumb" tags using the "name" attribute value of the parent tag as a selector, something like you would do in jQuery: $('set[name="pdf"]').find('thumb');Is there a method like this in Action Script 2 (can't use AS3)?
I have a series of XML nodes that are the same (except for the data of course). I want to find the node with that attribute and use that node's data. I know I can do this with a for loop and an if statement but I was hoping that there was a better way.[code]...

This object is ok, and shows up correctly in debug mode. The problem is I have a country name i.e. private var _country:String = "Angola";, and I want to get the corresponding value 'AO' from the XML object. Do you know how to do this?

I'm using a custom component CheckBoxList DataGrid (http://blogs.adobe.com/aharui/2008/02/checkbox_selection_in_datagrid.html) and as dataProvider I have an ArrayCollection with items such this one:

I would like the CheckBox list updated when the selected attribute is set to false or true in the data model.
I have a requierement in my project that i need to store 'US/Eastern EST' and day light saving 'US/Eastern EDT' in data base if client machine is in US/Eastern time zone. Because this gives clear identification instead of justing the chars like 'EST'. There is CDT in US region as well as Chaina too so can't relay just on three chars like 'EST'/'EDT'.

I've been trying to figure out how to display the descendants (in this case exchangeRate and PlacesOfInterest) of a parent node with a specific attribute.To set the scene - the user clicks on a button which sets a string variable to a destination eg. japan or australia.The code then runs through a set of nodes in the XML and any that have a matching attribute is traced - simple enoughWhat I can't figure out is how to then display only the child nodes of the node with that attribute.I'm sure there has to be a way of doing it and I'll probably be banging my head against the desk when I find it

First off I am new to using Flex, but I have pieced this app together with help from online tutorials and information. Basically my app is like a directory of names, addresses and so forth, but I also have additional fields of "week" and "day". I have an sqlite db in an application and am stuck on how to pass the data that is retrieved from the db into multiple textboxes. I can get the first selection passed into the components just fine, but my problem comes in when I try to pass a second data selection into a different textbox while keeping the data from the previous selection the same in the first textbox.Basically, the user selects a recipe and that recipe is passed into textbox 1 Then another recipe is selected and that recipe is passed into textbox 2. *The recipes are selected from a different view, if that adds anything to the problem. After being selected, the view is returned to where the textboxes are.I'm not looking for someone to code this for me, but rather on how I would do it. In my case, some user interaction produces new values for the bindable variables "someDataProvider", and "someSelectedItem". However, when flex renders the DropDownList, the control's selected value is empty.
The reason for this is that the DropDownList's "selectedItem" property gets bound before the "dataProvider" property. The "dataProvider" needs to be bound first for "selectedItem" to be valid, this is because the new "selectedItem" points into the new "dataProvider".
what is the best practice for updating bindable properties in a specific order? I've come up with a few ways (e.g. using a valueCommit handler), but I wanted to see what the community had to say.
I'm trying to resolve the following:I'v got a long xml file with a node called 'ows_Sub_x002d_Site' - this has several different values (e.g Home, about us e.t.c) which i then filter to make sure only items with that specific value are then looped thro to build a menu.
That part i got sorted (see below).The problem i have is that i need to know how many items there are in the xml file with that value before i loop thro the xml and build the menu (so i can determine the overall width of the menu e.t.c).

I have a Flash MP3 player that loads the song list from an XML file. I'm trying to set it up to take the customer to the online store to purchase the currently playing song. The player successfully loads the track name, artist name, and url to the song, but for some reason does not appear to the load the new attribute of buylink that I have just added. Given the code below, my buylink value is returned as undefined.

find a random number that is not equal to two specific values? ex:
1) find random number (let's say from 0 to 5)
2) check if the result is not 4 or 5
3) If it is, run the random function again and again until the condition is met.
Or maybe there's a way to set up that at once (find random number that is not equal to 4 or 5).
I found out that if XML file's attribute contains German special chars (chars with umlaut, like:..) then I get "undefined" answer when I try to read an attributes value. I tryed to change XML file encoding to: "UTF-8" and "iso-8859-1" but still no luck. "system.useCodepage = true;

The compiler is not throwing any errors and when I trace my complete xml object out it is all there, however when I try to trace out any element or node it keeps comming up undefined. I removed the attribute names with : characters in them and everything works fine. I cant seem to target the attributes either to delete them.

I have two variables. One variable will contain the game type, either Squash or Table Tennis. The other will contain one of the following strings "TIME1", "TIME2" or "TIME3". The variables are called game and time. I have tried many variations on the code below to get the needed attribute but with no joy.
