I recently downloaded an example of a xml slideshow from here
However I am having the hardest time trying to put another layer with an image, like a border over the slideshow. I have scoured google for solutions however anything actionscript i throw in to try and get the added layer to have the highest depth just does'nt work.

I attached a crosshair mc at the beginning with the depth set to getNextHighestDepth.However I keep adding the monsters mc dynamically when the game progresses, also with getNextHighestDepth. So the monster mc will keep overriding the depth of my crosshair's depth. how to get my crosshair mc's depth always to be on top of everything including the monster mc.I tried getNextHighestDepth()+1000 for my crosshair mc. But it was dumb because the monsters keep getting getNextHighestDepth as well. I assume that monster's depth would be 1001, 1002 and so on...

Currently, whenever I add new movie clips to the screen, the custom mouse shows up behind the movie clips, which looks terrible. I have to add movie clips regularly during runtime, but I need the custom cursor to stay above them, just like the regular mouse would.
Here's how I'm adding the custom cursor:

The reason I ask is that this is somehow interfering with my attachMovie and unloadMovie (unloadMovie stops working after another 6 extra depths).

View 2 RepliesI'm making an interactive map of the U.S. The layer with the outlines of the U.S. states sits on top. It has to sit on top because otherwise the outlines don't show up above the color fills for each state. I want a popup balloon to appear when you roll over each U.S. state. However, when I turn a state, say, New York, into a button, the button layer sits below the outline layer. So when I create the popup box for the button's rollover state, the popup box is *under* the US state outlines. How can I make the button rollover state exist on the highest layer?

One of the movie clips I am creating is created with the createEmptyMovieClip function. the other I've embedded onto the 1st frame manually.The one I have embedded manually will not show on top of the one I've created in code. and I want some movie clips to appear infront as well as behind it, but right now it always appears on the bottom layer. Is there a way to attach the drawing to a movie clip or something so I can change it's depth?
I used tiles for my platform game and they are placed on different depths. I wanted to have my HUD (like score and lives) on a different layer so I could move them around with mouse and dont mess with AttachTextField's properties like x and y when I can't actually see them.
But even if I drag the layer over my script layer, its still overrides it and shows the depths.
So I wanted to someway access that Layer that I make with Flash's Interface New Layer icon (not programitacally, just by clicking on new layer in timeline) and then move them to like depth of 13000 so it will be over everything.
I would like to place a video object above one movieClip instance ("mc"), but below another movieClip instance ("mc_top").
I instantiated the _root.flashVid object by dragging a "New Video..." from the Library to the stage, and giving it the instance name "flashVid".
I create mc, then paint a blue box, then I create mc_top, and paint a yellow box. The flashVid instance is on the Stage (_root) from the beginning. Now how do I get the flashVid above "mc" but below "mc_top"?

I am doing some research on creating clcikTags. I read a few places that the clcikTag should be on the top layer. That has been fine, but now I want to loop it and I usually put my actions in the top layer. Will this cause a problem? Am I better off just putting my loop action on the last key frame of the clcikTag layer?
View 3 RepliesIm creating a program that is designed to allow the used to select 3 pictures (movie clips) and print them off on a single peace of paper.
The program works by allowing the user to select 3 graphics (the graphics are actually instructions for various exercises) and then moving the desired movieclips onto the stage. This all happens on a layer named "Content"
So far the program will allow the user to select the movieclips and will move them into place on the Content layer as well as move smaller versions of the pictures into a preview box the only thing it does not do is print. (the most important bit)

View 1 RepliesI want to create a simple mask. A white oval on a second layer on top of a bottom layer that just has a word of type. I want the oval to travel from the upper left down to cover up the type. When I create the second layer, create the oval, and choose a distant frame for the "end" of the oval's positioning, my type in the first layer disappears as soon as I press F6 on that second layer. Why? Why is it nuking my first layer?
View 3 RepliesI have a container MovieClip called Drags where I can drag stamps (other MovieClips)--they are added to the Drags container via addChild. I have a second container MovieClip above that one (display order-wise) call Paint that contains a bmp, and some sprites used for adding a layer of paint.
My question is this: I need to be able to click on the Paint layer when I am above a draggable MovieClip and trigger the MouseEvent for the correct object to drag it around, but the item must always remain below the Paint layer.
I have 3 movieclips and inside them loads external txt.files .To MovieClip number one loads 1.txt, to number two loads 2.txt and to number three loads file 3.txt.Allright everything works, but......what if I wantet to load the txt-file that has the highest number to the first movieclip example 65.txt, and to number two the 64.txt, and to movieclip 3 txt-file 63. And when there is txt-file called 66 in the folder it loads to movieclip one, and 65 loads to movieclip 2 etc... I think everybody gets the point.Is it possible, that Flash look up the txt file that has the highest value?
View 8 RepliesI'm trying to do a little comic comedy type video in Flash. I've done an outline sketch with the pen tool of my first character, now I want to color it BUT I want to keep the colors and the outline sketch separated on two different layers. Is there a way I can select the path (outline) on layer A and then colorize it with the bucket tool on layer B? The problem I'm having is that every object I select it automatically jumps to that corresponding layer.
One reason why I want to do it this way is I still want to continue working freely on the outline sketch since it's not fully finished, so that I just can blend the colors out and keep working on the outline, at the same time I want to color it while I go just to see where it's going and to make sure that I'm not wasting my time unnecessarily with trying to do a outline just to find out that it won't work out at the end.

(my reason was that the exported flash file always recognised keystrokes as that of an american keyboard and the @ sign came out as this "when you hover over the icons at the bottom which bring up information contained in a button, it falls behind the iframe.is there anyway in which i can make that particular button that contains a movieclip get the next highest z index to go above the iframe?FYI:-i have tried this on the button instance but does not work...

I'm trying to set the MovieClip I MOUSE_DOWN on to the highest index using

but I think it's only giving me the e.target.name and not the whole path that includes the parent mc as well.
