Jan 27, 2010I was wondering if anyone knows how I can get the current currency conversion rates from online?

View 3 Repliesim trying to create a conversion utility that uses number input via calculator style buttons to generate conversion for the following distances:
-Miles to/from KM
-cm to/from mm
-binary to/from decimal
Now i was thinking of possibly having the options contained within an drop down and an input text field where the numbers are entered via the calculator buttons. The only thing im struggling with is how to perform the actual calculations on the different formats. Has anyone had to do anything similar in the past? Ive only found currency conversion examples and not sure how to apply that to these conversions.
If I have a flash document, that's set at 12 FPS.... can I make certain movie clips play at like 30 FPS even though the main document is set to 12?
View 2 RepliesI was told by my FMS host that even though FMEL can create multiple streams at different bit rates I could not send them. I need to use a different entry point for every stream which meant a different encoding machine for each rate.
View 1 RepliesI was wondering if there is a way to have different frame rates in different parts of the same flash animation? I need some parts to be quicker and some to be slower?
View 5 RepliesThe article Live dynamic streaming with Flash Media Server 3.5 mentions two different bit rates for each video size type.But why? Are these bitrates related to different compression ratios? And if so, why exactly two?
View 4 RepliesI am tweening text slowly like a marquee style, and I cant seem to get it smooth (it's stuttering and jerky). I am embedding the font, converting it to a bitmap, turning smoothing on, then using GTween for tweening it. If I use a very high frame rate I can see it gets smoother (I am using 24fps) but it should already be better than it is at 24. However, I would like to apply a higher framerate to this movieclip, how do I do that with AS3?I found this method, but updateAfterEvent() is outdated (only for onMouseMove, etc..) :
function timelineFaster() {
nextFrame();
updateAfterEvent();[code]....
In general I would like to learn more dynamic control of individual movieclips, this could be a powerful weapon to have Whats the best technique? (prefer in scripting...)
I'm working on an iPhone game using AS3 and I've got it working pretty well on the iPhone 3G. I intend to compile it with AIR 2.7 (or 3.0 when it drops), but for testing purposes, I do everything on my 3G. Here's the problem,I get a solid consistant 24fps until one of my objects moves offscreen - even partially. If my "character" even goes a few pixels past the edge, frame rates drop tp 9-10 fps. I've had a few people already suggest not allowing anything to move offscreen, but that's not feasible. I've gone through my code to make sure there isn't a programmatic reason this happens, and I've created a seperate project specifically to test this - with no game logic, simply moving an image across the screen, frame rates bottom out once content goes over the screen edge. I've tried using masks, I've tried using scrollRect, I'm using cacheAsBitmap, and there is no scaling, only x,y translation.
View 2 RepliesIs there a way where I can compile or build different frame rates into the various layers I create using an action script?? I.e. If there are say six layers running in a particular player, each layer should be running at a different frame rate, independent of each other
The problem am facing is am playing multiple media content in multiple layers (masked, so that it appears as if all the layers are playing in the same level) and each media content played in different layers needs to be played at a different frame rate to get a good visual effect!
formatting the following values in currency format (with $, comma and decimal point): YrSavings, CostTrans, CostBranch. How do I do it? Below is my code:

I am currently trying to make a financial calculator that will calculate loan payments. However, I am having trouble converting the final product into a currency format.
I have seen that tutorial on Flashkit, but it has to be one of the hardest-to-read tutorials I have ever seen. Has anyone tried this, and if so, do they know a good way to handle this problem?

Is it possible to convert a float to a currency string in Flash AS2?
View 2 RepliesI am having many websites . In that I have to send some parameters from php to flash. All the parameters are getting correctly displayed in flash except the currency symbol. These currency symbols are extracted from db to php in form of html entities like(& pound;). I can't change the db as it will require many changes in all websites of mine. I have used rawurlencode in php before sending to flash but in flash it gets displayed as & pound; in flash. I have given space between "&" and "pound;" so it is not converted to symbol in the post . In db it is correctly entered with no space. Previously , I was sending directly by writing the object tag in php file and and writing the parameters in params tag withing object tag. It was working perfectly fine . Now I have start using swfobject.js javascript library of hosted by google for embedding the flash content. Now its not working ( currency symbol is not getting displayed instead it html entity unicode shown above is getting displayed.) . I can't change the flash files also. I have to handle it from php or javascript code only.

I actually have to use xml to get the exchange rate, but I'd figure I'd start off like this to see if it works. Obviously it doesn't, for reasons beyond me, as it always is XD.
I'm new to Flash and I created a simple calculator using a button function. I need it to output a number as a currency and I'm having trouble doing so including the formatting [URL] I'm sure it's a simple fix...
View 0 RepliesI purchased ANYRD Flash Cart component a while back. Recently Paypal took a great step forward by adding support for Mexican Pesos. So since I live in Mexico people is more open to do a transaction in Pesos rather than Dollars or Euros. The downside for me is that MXN is not in the component's list of supported currencies. It is a dropdown option in the component inspector so I have no way of changing this. anyrd.com website has been down for several months so I don't think I can get any support from them and I don't see an update any time soon (or at all).
View 4 RepliesI want to make a textinput where a person can type in a price. I used "restrict" to only allow numbers and decimal. But the person can type in several decimals and create numbers like 11.1.1.1 or 11...11 or 1.11111
i want to restrict the entry to only one use of a decimal and only two numbers after the decimal.
any other way to format a textinput to a currency format?
I often recieve FLV files for work and need to convert them to SWF. I know that flash imports FLA files but not FLV... I converted the FLV the F4V, opened it in flash, exported it as a SWF and it worked great... once.After that it rendered a white screen. How can I take an FLV file and properly convert it to a SWF suitable for web serving?
View 1 RepliesI have been creating animations for children, and recently finished an animated short. I am more of an artist than a techie, and I have not been able to find a clear cut answer as to what is the best way to convert flash to DVD. What file should be converted to achieve the best quality? SWF? MOV file? Is there a way to do it from flash? from Adobe Premier? I tried the AVI output and the quality was terrible.
Is a seperate converter needed? If so, are which give the best quality audio and visually? Here are some of the basic requirements for an animated short entry: DVDs must be compatible with standard set-top DVD players-- do not simply burn a quicktime or AVI file to a disc as data. It is highly preferred that you send us an NTSC, Region 1 or region free (Region 0) DVD when submitting to us, but we will also accept PAL and SECAM formats as well. If you are sending a DVD that has a region code other than 0 or 1, and/or a format other than NTSC, please mark this CLEARLY on the disc AND on the DVDcase.
I have buttons across the way that are going to listen if they are clicked and if they are clicked it performs a test that says "if i'm not on this page then go to it"I'm a script kiddy I'll admit so I copy paste and go with what works. My compiler errors are down drastically when publishing to AS3.

I make basic promo videos for some of my clients & a couple need the file in swf format.Currently I am using iMovie (for basic image to image cross disolves). I am learning Premier Pro& plan on using that in the next month or so.iMovie exports in .mov format. What is the best way of converting to swf? Would it be media encoder to FLV, then Flash to SWF?
I am using Mac OS 10.5.6 & I have CS4
There are options to do it using Java and JS. And these options can be clubbed with AS3 but is there something out-of-the-box in native AS3 to do it.
View 3 RepliesI created a thread about converting an .as file to xml and then back. I asked too mny questions in that thread, I apologize...I was being greedy. Does anyone know how to, once you have a string, convert it to XML.
