ActionScript 3.0 :: Handle Incremented Variables Inside Of URLRequest()?
Jul 30, 2010
I am trying to set up a series of URL links inside a cycling button. However, when I try to use the variable, the link sends me to the variable name instead of the URL. Below is a snippet of the code:
I'm retrieving variables from a DB via PHP via the URLRequest, and the formatting is set to variables (URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIABLES) and matches the structure "myVarName=myValue&myOtherVarName=myOtherValue&... ".
My question is; is there a way, within Flash, to identify the variables and their values, without having to know their names?, are there methods within the loader class that allow this?, such as the variables count etc?
(I can access the variable "copyrightTxt." via the syntax: loader.data.copyrightTxt because I know its name, but I'd like something like
loader.data.variableSent[45].name = "copyrightTxt" and loader.data.variableSent[45].value = "@ 2009" and loader.data.variableCount = 98
I am building a simple swf that will load in variables from an asp page using a URLloader and URLRequest. The asp page loads in the current values from a SQL database but these values will change every second. My swf loops every 6 frames and loads the data. How much load this puts on the server? And when the server is busy might this cause a problem with the variables I am reading in?
Does AS3 run all actions on frame 1 before going to frame 2 etc? I don't know if this is the best way but my last variable in the ASP page is called Loaded and I test for it before moving on. My major concern is the load I am putting on the website but is this small? In firefox the status box constantly flickers transferring data from ... and waiting .. but in other browsers you can't see the activity.
I'm trying to send variables to a payment gateway (dibs) and need to post variables to the likes of[code]...
In creating a dynamic variable I'm doing this, which works. But it's not posting the values to the php-page. (The "normal" variables are being posted just fine, so the error isn't there) [code]...
infowindowoptions class within the google map api for flash and I want to have some html ( a link ) within a string value. the html has a pair of quote marks inside the string. How can I have the quote marks inside the string without causing an error?here is my actionscript
import com.google.maps.LatLng; import com.google.maps.Map; import com.google.maps.MapEvent; import com.google.maps.MapType;import com.google.maps.InfoWindowOptions; var map:Map = new Map(); map.key = "ABQIAAAAN14ojD-qIiaujbXTJI-SnhQEt6AsiatPjWK1t6pg54rIwsH2LxSmsfrHffLA
How do I handle php gibberish when loading url-encoded variables? If either vars or no vars return I have a way of executing an event, but if html/php errors return in the string, how can I tell the program to execute an event?
How flash setup a variable to handle the newly created movieclip? Example: this.createEmptyMovieClip("mymovie",2); this.clientscroller.setScrollContent(mymovie);
Where did I set it up as a variable? I tried this and didn't work either: this.createEmptyMovieClip("mymovie",0); mymovie.createTextField("mytext",1,100,100,300,100 );
And now i am trying to use that information using a for statement but i do not know how i can add the incremented number at the end. I tried to add a "+i" like this
In my movie i have a link button with following, simple, function creating a link:
[Code]...
lately i've associated a class file (.as) to my movie and immediately after, when publishing the movie i got the following error message: 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: URLRequest. as well as a couple of other related error messages: 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method URLRequest. 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method navigateToURL. when i remove the link to the class file, the problem goes away. also, i have checked the class file for mentioning of "URLRequest" and nothing is there.
I've got a variable that gets incremented by 1 every five seconds. I want to be able to, (on the click of a button), grab the current value of that variable and assign that specific value to another variable.
So basically I want to pass a variable by it's value and not it's reference. How do I do that?
I am amateur in flex, and started my final year project in flex to learn it, I am stuck in place where I have to create rows of drop down lists when the user pressed add more, E.g.: like the ones in mail attachments. I think I have found a way to generate rows, I am not even sure whether it is a correct way, how I generate the rows:
Now when I generate more rows the dropdownlist ids will conflict, so I want to know a way to generate ids, I think I cant even call a function in there.
I'm creating a scrollbar gallery from a tutorial on this site. Though I've completed the tutorial, and customised the gallery to my own needs, however I'm trying to make a very small change to it - and no matter what I do, keep running into problems. I'm trying to replace the rectangular handle with my own customised handle - a (20 x 20) 'circular' png image that I've imported into Flash, made a graphic and stored in the library (though I understand it can be imported using actionscript, like the other images in the gallery).
I need to make a loop that can create (and use) incremented variable names. Basically I need to dynamically create a certain number of sprites and datagrids then I need to add these dynamically created datagrids and sprites to the stage. So the static code (which works, but I think is NOT the right way to go) would look something like this (I'm leaving out a bunch of stuff but this should give you the right idea):
[Code]....
But I can't figure out the syntax and how to make it work... This MUST be possible! My knowledge is pretty thin in actionscript,
i have a symbol called character and inside that symbol i have a symbol called head and inside that symbol i have a variable called headtype... i want it to set to 5 from the main frame.
If I have a MovieClip called parent_mc and inside it I have another called child1_mc, I can use a variable for the "1" part of child1_mc and change the alpha for example like this:
ActionScript Code: var myVar:Number = 1; parent_mc['child'+myVar+'_mc'].alpha = 0.5;
What is the right syntax to use if child1_mc is not actually a child of anything and just sits on the stage? I have tried the following and it didn't work:
I am doing my first simple game using Flash CS5 and Actionscript 3.0. In this game the player would be able to create a new quiz where it would create an array and add sets of questions and answers to that array. I have been looking on how to do this or anything like it and it doesn't seem to be possible (at least in this way).
I'm pretty new to AS, I understand that whatever variables you have inside a function will be discarded once the function finishes? I need the value of a variable that's inside a function, I've tried declaring it outside the function, and also give it an initial value, but it seems that when the function finishes the variable goes back to it's original value.
Actionscript Code: for (var i:Number=1; i<=3;i++){ var char_name+i = event.target.data.char_name_ + i;//It should be like//var char_name1 = event.target.data.char_name_1;//var char_name2 =
I know that as long as a I declare variables inside a function I can only call them as long as the scope of the function is active. Outside of that function the variables don't exist. Is there any way I can create those variables inside a function and use them outside of it?
I'm using a few for() loops to populate my game. Now, I have 2 versions of each function, one that executes when my variable "debug" exists, and the other that activates only if "debug" does not exist.Looks kinda like this:
ActionScript Code: // first, if debug exists, the script will execute for the single instance of my movie clip "myBox_0". if(debug){ // assign a value to the string "myTarget"
[code]....
Now, on the line I starred*, if I enter "images/0" instead of what you read there, then it works. But when I try to use the variable "i" then it gives me the error "Error opening URL 'images/undefined.png'" I ran a trace statement to track "i" through the code and it works up until I enter the tellTarget statement... how can I get my script to pass that variable through that statement?
I'm pretty new to working wth custom classes, but so far everything has been working great - up to the point where I create more than one instance of the same kind of class. For example:
[CODE]...
Do I simply have to call the arrays different names??? I really don't want to, shouldn't by creating two different instances you subsequently create two different arrays in turn?
I'm currently learning OOP through Sen's information here at Kirupa, and I've decided to try out his "creatures" exercise mentioned in his Best of Senocular thread...The situation is a random number of sprites are created, and they move around the stage, interacting. They all have a certain amount of "health," defined as a variable in a MovieClip prototype applied to the MC. When they hit, I want their health to go down a little bit, so how can I access a particular MC's "health" variable while I'm outside of the MC itself?
