I am unable to center a custom slider inside an HBox. Currently, the HBox contains an image, the custom slider and a color picker. When the program runs, the slider seems to always be bottom justified. As you see below, my HBox does have verticalAlign to be "middle". I have attached below snipperts of code containing teh style and the HBox definition.

I am new to actionscript (and entirely self-taught so bear with my probably poor programming style) and have no idea how to display the value as the thumb moves. Is there a way to use the sliderevents outside of the slider components, or is there a way to update a text box as the slider moves outside of the sliderevents. I need to create an interactive piece. It's much more involved than this but fundamentally I need to create a slider on the left side of a window that is the color spectrum. I'll put a small triangular pointer beside it that can be moved up and down beside the spectrum. I want whatever color the slider is next to to show up in a symbol on the right. I've attached a simple image that illustrates it. So to restate it again, I'd slide the triangular symbol up and down beside the spectrum gradient on the left and whatever color it is pointing to would just show up in the symbol on the right, real time.

What I have is a map that you can click on points and it will zoom in, you can also click on a "plus/minus" buttons to zoom in and out (I even have the mouse wheel zooming in and out). The client wanted me to add a "zoom slider bar" to it so you know you could move it up and down to scale it. Everything is working except the slider, I can't seem to get it to work with the position of the slider. All of the zoom functionality is there but the slider is killing me.
I am putting up the fla file since there is a lot of code in there and I didn't want to put it all in the forum. if you look in the fla in frame ten on line 726 you can find the function that is supposed to handle the zooming when you move the slider. Up on line 74 you can find the slider onPress and onRelease functions, but those I believe should be fine.
I am trying to create a basic timeline, similar to the timeline we all use in flash (see attached).
I have a playhead slider, which when dragged, just drags within its startDrag() limits.
I also have horizontal window scroller which also when dragged, just drags within its startDrag() limits.
I am trying to work out how to get the horizontal window scroller to scroll when the playhead slider hits the left or right edge. I am using hittest for this collision.
I have the playHeadSlider scrolling along the top. When playHeadSlider collides with hittestThing I want mcContents to then move.
It kind of works.. mcContents moves when the playHeadSlider is in collision with the hittestThing.. but it just moves rather than 'drags' across. I have it set up so that mcContents is twice the width (approx) of mcScrollWindow.
I need to somehow update what I have so that if the playHeadSlider collides with hittestThing on the right, mcContents only moves to the right and if playHeadSlider collides with hittestThing2 on the left, mcContents only moves to the left.
I have a center window and a background in my flash file. I am trying to get the center window to stay in the center of the web browser screen and get the background to expand and fill the entire web browser screen below center window layer. Sort of like this site [URL] I've currently converted the background to a movie clip and have this code.

My flash movie is 1440x900 but the area where all the important stuff happens in within 1024x768, i am trying to keep the middle in the center regardless of browers size or aspect ratio.
I can center the page but it doesn't work as i need it to. If the browers is small (1024x768) the swf is justified against the left edge, but not keeping the middle in the middle of the brower.

The difference here are two things, the earlier error is while converting flash event to custom event and now this one is while converting custom event to flash event and secondly, I have no clue why it is trying to convert to the mouseevent where I am just dispatching my custom event with proper listeners.

I have the following situation:I have an event handler, that displays small messages in my application's statusbar.These messages get passes through by dispatching events from custom components.A simple message could be like "HTTP Error" or so.Now, the main event listener, in the main application file, listens to the event dispatched by any custom component,but seems to refuse listening to events dispatched by custom AS classes.Here is my code for the custom event:

- The event listener listens to the custom event dispatched by any custom component.
- The event listener does not listen to the custom event duspatched by an AS class.
Those who wonder, the event really gets dispatched, that's why I added a trace call.
In the main file, I would write[code]...
But if I want the component to have that behaviour innately, where do I write it in the mybutton mxml file to have it reference itself?[code]...
i am a bit embarassed to ask this, but i do this so much i have to ask. Occasionally, i need to pass/handle custom events on the fly. Rather than creating a whole custom event class, i will just do something like

I have a Custom Component that has a couple of Canvas with some background colors assigned to them. Now i have hard coded the colors, i want to move them to an external css file. So i would like to have the css declaration like this :

I have created custom TreeItemRenderer in which i am trying to draw colored Hbox bar at each node except root. Intially when i click on root node it opens first child node with bar but when i open leaf node it does not showing bar and removing existing bard from other few child nodes. Is there a point of creating custom event class if i dont need to pass custom property with that event?
View 3 RepliesI am just learning AS3, and have no idea whatsoever about the differences between 2 and 3. There is a bit of code from [URL] that I wanted to update to use AS3, but it was written in AS2. Here it is:

I get twelve total errors (there are six buttons with a slider next to them, and there are 2 types of errors). The first is: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property onPress through a reference with static type flash.display:SimpleButton. The other is 1120: Access of undefined property _root. The key parts of the code (I think) are the button names, and slider_mc., a little black square that slides up and down the height of the menu. All of the buttons are button symbols, each with a unique name. I read that to fix the 1119 error, I can convert them to movie clips, but then they no longer function as buttons (which is sort of the point).
I was wondering if anyone knew or could point me in the direction of a tutorial that will allow me to achieve this slider effect - but without using xml The effect is exactly what I need but on the particular network I need to upload to it doesn't seem to be able to load the images, I have tested it on other sites so know it is not a error.s there a way to achieve the same effect with the images already embeded in flash?

The motivation here is that I can now create a couple different skin files to change the look and layout of those subgroups. Reading source of the spark panel, there are some calls within the mx_internal namespace such as getMXMLContent() which is a method of the spark group component, but which I have no access to.
Does the description above make sense? How can I create custom 'contentGroups' in my custom Flex4 component that can use nested mxml child components? Should I approach this a different way?

I am new to AS3, as well as Flash in general, so forgive me if this seems highly elementary. All I am trying to do is create a custom class that extends the MovieClip class and contains a custom property of "marker". I want to be able to use and change the value of this custom property on the timeline for an instance of this class and have it behave just like any other (Ex: this.x ==> this.marker).

I'm a designer that inherited a project with a volume slider. I'm not that good with actionscript yet and haven't been able to figure out the code. The volume and slider starts at 100%, and I need it to start at 50%. Can you tell me how to set both the volume and slider at 50%? I'm sure it is a simple solution but I can't figure it out.
