Actionscript 3 :: Dynamically Alter The Main Timeline Display Dimension To Match A Loaded 3D Swf's Dimension To Keep Source 3D Properties?

Dec 16, 2010

The issue I'm having is that I have a main "wrapper" 100x100 (but it could be any size) - it's just there to hold and display whatever content, swf, gif, etc we may want to throw into it. As long as the loaded content doesn't have 3D animation like rotationY going on, it displays fine. But when it does, the 3D "anchor" properties (like projectionCenter) of the loaded swf inherit those of the main timeline (i.e. 100x100 (main) vs 728x90 (loaded)). If I change the dimension of the main "wrapper" in Flash IDE to match what's coming in - the 3D behaves fine, but I won't know what the dimensions of the content will be until it comes, so I need a way (if there is one) to dynamically alter the main "wrapper" or root display object through AS. Stuff like "this.width = loader.width" or "stage.width = loader.width" or "root.width = loader.width" etc doesn't work. Flex has the hBox and vBox

ActionScript 2.0 :: Adding Another Dimension To An Array

Jun 30, 2007

I have some 2D arrays. I would like to add a 3rd dimension. How do I add this 3rd dimension?

I don't know if I'm stating this correctly but what I would like to do is have an array that holds a bunch of [thumb.jpg, number, bigpic.jpg]. This way all the values entries are related. So if I wanted to get any of these values I could use the same key value.

I don't know if this makes sense. Plus, do I get the values of the 3rd dimension by using [i][2] in a for-loop? I know that [i][0] gets the 1st dimension and [i][1] gets the 2nd dimension.

Actionscript :: Initialize Array Length In Object After It Has Been Declared?

Feb 24, 2012

I'm getting a run-time error: Error #1009: Cannot access a property of method of a null object reference referring to the for loop's first line dataWriteToDB.PeopleName since it is NULL. I'm guessing the problem here is that while dataWriteToDB is declared initially, the array lengths for the arrays in PeopleInfo class have not been set yet. Or, not sure otherwise why it's NULL.

Flash :: Is Vector.<Number> Impossible To Initialize With A Numeric Array

May 29, 2011

How would you go about initializing a Vector. with say the values 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

Logic would say you could do newVector = new Vector. ( [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] );

You could also try something like this...

var tmp = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5];
newVector = new Vector.();
newVector = newVector.concat(tmp);

But then you get a type error converting Array to Vector.

I'm stumped, am I missing something stupid or does the vector class really not play well with numeric types? You can try making them decimal numbers just to be sure they get cast as number and not int.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Calling A Function With An Array Variable As Arguments Is Resetting Array?

Oct 12, 2006

I'm going to post the full code of the two functions, disregard the "fluff" unrelated to the two functions as it is all working flawless, I've tested this HEAVILY and cannot understand why it keeps setting the entire array to undefined!

Code:
// processReplace Function
function processReplace(transferFiles) {
var processArray:Array = transferFiles.slice();

[Code]....

Basically it's supposed to check to see if the file exists and return as true if it does and add it to a replace array, then the replace array is processed into a single string and put into a dialog box through the flash wrapper prompting them to "replace the files or not".

It makes the replace array just fine, it actually even has the right "count" in it but it's setting all the "filenames" to undefined because of the exists = processSearch function.

I even tried to make a new array and run the search just from that one and set the values from the old one and it's still failing.

Is it because of the "break" or can anyone figure it out? Iknow it's hard because you can't use the code

ActionScript 3.0 :: Initialize Movieclip's Width Value Only Once?

Nov 30, 2011

setting a rectangle movieclip instance's width to 20 at the very start, before the ENTER_FRAME function is fired, but the width remains 20 throughout. I've tried different methods, here are two examples.Here's a simplified, short example:

Actionscript Code:
var rect_mcW:Number = rect_mc.width; //store original widthrect_mc.width = 20; //then set the rectangle's width to 20rect_mc.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, growRect);function

[code]....

Ok, so the rect_mc's width remains 20 for each ENTER_FRAME event, even though the event listener function should grow it, but doesn't.One other way I tried was wrapping the 20 width inside a function:

Actionscript Code:
// opening statements omitted for brevity//first call to addEventListener:rect_mc.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, init_width); //on first

[code]....

this second example yields the same result, the rect_mc width remains 20 even Though I thought the event listener that calls the function that sets it to 20 is removed first thing in the second event listener.

So, I assume it's because the code is read from top, and the code that sets width to 20 gets read and executed over and over. But still, shouldn't the growing part also take place over and over? What I want obviously is to store the original width, but start the animation with a width of 20, but just once.

Javascript :: When Does A Browser Initialize Flash?

Dec 15, 2010

I am working on optimizing a page that has Flash on it. I am using optimization practices like moving Javascript to the bottom to not block. Removing inline scripts. And minimizing HTTP requests with minified css and js.The majority of the pages content is in the flash, so loading it as soon as possible is the goal. Currently there is a 2 ~ 3 second delay before the flash is even rendered (using firebug profiling)

I am wondering at what point in the page load does the browser start initializing flash on the page? Is it once the DOM element containing the flash has been rendered? Is it once the complete onload event has been fired? I imagine it probably differs with each browsers as well.

It wont even initialize or run the NetDebug and it's bugging me because I have no way to debug this because of it.I get NO output errors at all, so all the MX components are on the stage correctly and amfphp is set up perfectly fine ( this whole thing works fine if I use it inline rather than class ).
