ActionScript 3.0 :: Loaded Swf Telling Parent Swf To Unload Itself?
Sep 23, 2010I have a shell swf that is loading a swf. How do you have the loaded swf tell the parent loader to unload itself after the loaded swf finishes playing?

View 3 RepliesI have a parent movie that loads a swf(events.swf) file into a movie clip with an instance name of container. (container.loadMovie("events.swf");) It loads fine and seems to work great.
events.swf has a movie clip inside of it called design_mc that contains the content. In that movie clip I have a button that needs to target the parent movie and tell it to gotoAndPlay("eventsout"); which is on the _root of the parent movie. However, anything I try will not target the parent movie. I've tried _parent, _parent._parent, _root, and even assigning the parent movie this._lockroot = true; . Nothing seems to target the parent movie.

View 4 RepliesI have a main movie(main.swf). I've loaded a movie into it(loaded.swf). I need the loaded movie to finish playing once a button is clicked in the main.swf. So basically i need something like
when a button in the main.swf is pressed, finish playing "loaded.swf"
I am working on a school project that requires me to load external .swf or .jpg files. I currently have all of the buttons working and are loading an external .swf file on to the screen. The problem I am having is that when I go from one button to the next the loaded .swf stays on the screen and the next .swf gets loaded on top of it. I know that I need to unload the file but I am not sure where to put the code for the unload or what code exactly to use. I would like when the button is pressed to unload the previous loaded .swf and load the new .swf without having a separate button to unload.

I've got an object (an instantiation of my own class that extends Sprite) being created in the actions for a frame, like this:
Code:
import Scripts.CFoobar;
var foobar:CFoobar = new CFoobar();

I am needing to load a movie from with in a movie into the origional movie and then unload the first loaded movie. hahaha ok. Say I have a movie called M1 and M1 has an animation sequence that needs to run befor it loads but because of positioning issues they need to be loaded seperatly into different loaders. My my plan is to load M1Animation into ldr on my time line, then play the animation and at the end do something like

My problem is this sounds great in my head but the code above doesn't work
Parent swf has a button to load Child swf and Child swf has a button to unload itself through a dispatchEvent. Both in respective document classes. Parent loads Child fine... Child can't remove itself! Anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong here? Or another way to go about this? Struggling for a day now...
Parent swf:
public var myLoader:Loader;
loadButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, loadSWF)
public function loadSWF(e:MouseEvent):void {
[Code]....
I have a flash page where I am loading another .swf into. With a button in the loaded swf I need to unload the loaded swf (where the button is) and navigate to a specific frame label in the parent .swf. I've tried to do the following in the key frame where the swf get loaded into I've put the following:
var gallery_load_wonderland:Loader = new Loader();
gallery_load_wonderland.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEve nt.PROGRESS, loop_wonderland);
gallery_load_wonderland.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPL ETE, done_wonderland);
gallery_load_wonderland.load(new URLRequest("gallery_wonderland.swf"));
function loop_wonderland(e:ProgressEvent):void {
[Code] .....
I basically want to first load the swf called "gallery_wonderland.swf". Then in the "gallery_wonderland.swf" there's a button called "contact03_btn" which I want to unload "gallery_wonderland.swf" even though it's inside the swf and navigate to the frame label called "Contact" in the parent swf.
What can I do I've done similar before and it works, but when I do it know and I click the contact03_btn it comes with following error message:
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.display::Stage@26215ba1 to flash.display.MovieClip.
at gallery_wonderland_fla::MainTimeline/back_wonderland()[gallery_wonder land_fla.MainTimeline::frame1:227]
If you haven't met me yet, that's because I'm pretty new around here. I picked up ActionScript just earlier this week, actually. Name's Kate. Nice to meet you. All righty. I'll start by saying that I've been referencing this thread:

I have a parent .swf who load 3-4 external swf. In a external swf (let's name it "X") u can order items u want. Because i don't want to lose the informations of the 'shopping' bag of customer when the parent swf unload the 'X' and load something another (for example "contact us"), i use localconnection with both duplex between parent swf and 'X'.
Problem: In the swf "X" i have an array "Bag" which holds the id of items the customer clicked to buy. When change the external swf, i send via localconnection to the parent .swf this array (done, i tried with trace). And when the parent loads again the external .swf "X" , it send again the same array via localconnection to "X". The "X" receives it right (done, i verified it with trace). The strange is.. when the customer clicks another item, the array resets to zero!!!

Im working on a project that has a main swf file associated with the document class. It loads XML that provides the text content for the project, then it loads a swf that contains a font in its library, then it loads the first of several content module swfs. When the font swf has inited, I'm registering its library font with Font.registerFont(), and using it in a TextFormat object. After everything is done, I can add code to the document class to create a text field on the stage of the main swf and format it successfully with the TextFormat object, but when I try to do the same thing inside the loaded content module swf, the text doesn't show up there at all.

View 7 RepliesI have been able to get the external swf files to load and unload from my holder mc no probs. Now I want to complicate things a little.
There are individual background images for each of the eight menu buttons. When a button is pressed I want the new background image to fade in over the top of the previous background image, unloading the old image once the new one has faded over it. Not unloading the bg image and leaving the screen blank and loading a new bg image.
I have a child class that is loaded into the parent class when the swf begins, like so: var myvar = 'hello'; public function Parent() { this.child = new Child(); }; How can I retrieve the variable 'myvar' from within child?
View 1 RepliesI use the following code to load a swf on top of main. Is there a way to have a button in the loaded swf then close the loaded swf?

I have a function called "CallSound" that load sound to a movie clip and play it.I want to create new function that remove/unload the sound from the movie clip, because I want to load another sound to me clip and dont want the the new sound will play with the old one.How can I create a function called removeSound() that remove the sound that loaded before
View 1 RepliesHere is the code that I am using for my button
on(release){
loadMovieNum("CG/images/houseGroups/1fs.swf", i);
i++;
}
And then on the first frame of the timeline I am putting i=10
So every time the button is clicked it keeps loading on top of the last. This all works fine. My question is: How do I unload all of the layers that have been loaded. It seems like it should be an unload i< but that does not work.
can a loaded movie unload itself, ive tried but nothing positive this is the thing, i have a sectiion tha i loaded, and i want a close button in that loaded movie, not in the actual main movie
View 3 RepliesI am loading external swf's into a main load.swf, using a Moviecliploader object. What I basically want to do is that, after an external movie, say home.swf, loads another external swf, say about.swf, home.swf should be unloaded.
home.swf is loading about.swf into the _root.mc_holder, which is placed inside load.swf. I want all external files to be placed within this holder. Now this is working with some files, but not with others. My standard code within all files is this:
//code within home.swf to load about.swf
var loader:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();var ldrlistener = new Object();loader.addListener(ldrlistener);ldrlistener.onLoadStart =

i have a question. let say i have file1.swf , file2.swf, and file3.swf, how can i link this 3 files together,let say suppose file1.swf is the main content file, but as i load file2.swf, i want the file1.swf get replaced by file2.swf. How could i unload file1.swf at that time, so that my file2.swf will become the main content file?and again, when my current position at file2.swf, and i want it get replaced by file3.swf by clink on a button. so that the i can unload the file2.swf and let the file3.swf become the main content file.
View 13 RepliesIs there a way to automatically unload movies when a new movie is loaded? eg: 5 buttons, 5 bit of art. At the moment they overlap instead of unloading before the new one loads.
View 4 RepliesI am creating a 40 slide presentation with soundtracks, narration, and animations.Each slide is a separate swf clip).I have noticed that when I load a new clip, the previous clip is still loaded (I wasn't using any background so I could see through the first clip and see the second).This tells me that I should consider unloading the previous clip or use backgrounds.Putting on a background is easy however if I should want to unload the previous clip, how do I do that?Here is how I load the next clip:
mmBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,loadMM);function loadMM(event:MouseEvent):void {trace("Main Menu Button was Pressed")var loadMain:Loader;loadMain = new Loader();addChild(loadMain);loadMain.load(new URLRequest("mainMenu.swf")); }
Some slides will have many navigation options and others will only have one or two.I have AS in each slide to keep each slide self contained. This makes it easier for me to develop and test.Is there a way to remove the current slide contents (from the stage and memory) and load the next slide? I'm really concerned about the memory usage.
I am doing a presentation on which I need to use a lot of video clips. I load all these videos dynamically using Loader. [code]...
View 2 RepliesI have my dynamic test field working where it loads my external text by the following
[Code]....
how would I go about unloading the text after it has already been loaded?
I came across a lesson on [URL]titled "Vertical 3D Carousel with AS3 and XML".
I completed the tutorial and all worked fine so I then wanted to load the swf into a existing project. The loading of the swf goes fine and when I unload my loader it is removed but only visually as in my output panel in flash CS5 I get an error as follows
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.at carousel_c_fla::MainTimeline/moveCarousel()
this error repeats over and over again slowing my swf movie.
So does this mean my main flash movie trying to still play / find my unloaded 3D Carousel?
If so how do I unload remove all the AS3 that is trying to run from the 3D Carousel?
I have included the AS3 below from the tutorial page and I understand that this is what I have to remove to "break free" from the 3D Carousel swf when it is unloaded. This is where I am stuck as my knowledge of AS3 is limited
//Import TweenMax
import com.greensock.*;
//The path to the XML file (use your own here)
[Code].....
I am trying to hide an external loaded carousel on button click with the following AS[code]...
I can see the trace ""remove Carousel" but the Carousel.swf is still shown?
When i look in debug mode i can see the _root.holder, but it doesn't hide?
I have a gallery with tween effect which allows the photos to change size.
However, after loaded photos work but i can't unload it!
If i change the 1 to _mc, it's able to unload but then tween won't work.
Feels like i am missing something basic and it's driving me mad.[code]...
i have created a colour picker that loads movieclips from the library onto the stage.however i need to create a "start over" button that will remove all these added clips.my code is as follows:
Code:
startover.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, removeallFunction);
function removeallFunction (event:MouseEvent):void
[code].....
