ActionScript 3.0 :: Place Bitmapdata Drawing Over Content / Get Desired Effect
Apr 16, 2009
i am creating a very simple particle system. My only issue is trying to create a blurry trail effect on the particles in motion. I started by creating a large bitmap container, and applying a colormatrix filter and a blur filter . It seems to do the trick , but the issue now, is i have to make this container cover the stage, which has a two unwanted a effects:
-it's slower
-it covers all the content beneath. Perhaps my approach to creating trails is wrong?
i can post the whole class, but before i litter this post with long lines of code, is there a way to place a bitmapdata drawing over content and still get the desired effect. NOTE, if make transparency false in the bmdata, i loose the effect

I have movie clips loading in dynamically using an XML file, and the duplicate movie clip function. I need to be able to select one of those movie clips, drag it to a desired position and have it snap to place. As for right now, I'm using :

I have a flash file (a flash navigation bar actually, which gets loaded in all the webpages inside the website). What I am trying to do is place an external swf file on it in a desired position when the corresponding page is being loaded. I am using FlashVars (variable name -> 'movieName') to pass the name of the movie clips. These variables are read by the navigation swf file and the corresponding swf file should be loaded in the area specified. Now, to create a container, I am using createEmptyMovieClip() method which will host all the external swf files.
The swf files are all being loaded but with a lot of problems. First, no matter what I try, the swf file comes at a fixed place (which is way off from where it is supposed to be). I have tried checking if the container loaded the movie before fixing its position but it changed nothing. Although it did change the position of a weird background colour box I am getting when the movie starts loading - which brings me to the second problem.
A rectangular box flashes once when the external swf is loaded, and its position is being affected by whatever I am setting the _x & _y values of the container movies to. I have no idea why it is happening as it doesn't happen when I test that swf seperately.

How to make this smoke effect work without mouse input. I am trying to have it spill from the end of a cannon, & my attempts to modify the position have resulted in all my bitmaps shifting. I changed this
doTrail(_root, _xmouse, _ymouse, currentBitmap);
To this
doTrail(_root, _x=80, _y=100, currentBitmap);

I am trying to make a image slideshow for my companies new website. I used the Flash Image Viewer plugin from Dreamweaver, but it doesn't contain the transitional effect desired.
Every tutorial I find talks about advancing the images through an interactive control, I just want the images to change by themselves and do a fade transitional effect between images. Can anyone please point me to a tutorial that has this w/o the intractive buttons? I have been looking on the internet for hours and can only find tutorials / example w/ the intractve controls.

I've seen the BitmapData object used for graphics a fair bit, especially in games. Many of these cases have done things in somewhat fundamentally different ways, and I was wondering what the best way generally is.
Method 1: Each animation frame is kept in a separate BitmapData object using an array.
Method 2: The animation is kept in a strip using a single BitmapData object and using the "sourceRect" parameter of copyPixels.
The draw and hitTest methods appear not to provide any "sourceRect" parameter. Most of the code I have seen using method 2 has worked around this by copying the bitmap frame into a temporary bitmap for these methods. This seems like quite a large processing overhead to me. Using method 1 this is generally not a problem, unless hitTest needs to be used with scaling and/or rotation, in which case a temporary transformed copy is still needed it seems as hitTest doesn't except a transformation.
I'm thinking method 1 is the better choice since it avoids having to make temporary copies for the most part, and I don't think it would waste much memory (just the duplicated width, height, etc values?). Is this generally true or is there a reason lots of people seem to do things the second way?
Also is there a better way to use hitTest for bitmaps that have been scaled, rotated, etc?

what i need to do is basically a motion trail on a bitmap.
I want to continuously draw a bitmap onto itself while previous versions are faded into the background, similar to a smoke type effect.

I am working on an application that will allow a user to scale an image. The issue that I am having with the method below is that the scaling is always taking place on the previous scale point. For example: If I scale the image up one and then scale the image down one. I have to scale down twice to get it back to the point I want it to be.
Here is my current code:
private var sourceBMD:BitmapData = testImage.source as BitmapData
private var matrixScaleX:Number = 1;
private var matrixScaleY:Number = 1;
private var baseScaleX:Number = .05;
private var baseScaleY:Number = .05;

I have a huge background bitmapdata with a corresponding grid. I'm trying to draw the two parts onto a different bitmapdata, but for some reason, the bitmap for the grid is overriding the bitmapdata of the background that is being drawn first. The grid seems to be making the entire third bitmapdata transparent for some reason.
My code for creating the background and corresponding grid:
Code:
viewWidth=stage.stageWidth;
viewHeight=stage.stageHeight;
bmdScreen=new BitmapData(viewWidth,viewHeight,true);
[Code].....
I want to draw a grid on top of the background I have. For some reason, the grid is making the background underneath it transparent.

var rect:Rectangle = object.getBounds(stage);
var bmp:BitmapData = new BitmapData(rect.width, rect.height, true, 0x00000000);

I'm getting this one: Error #2123: Security sandbox violation: BitmapData.draw
while I try to draw the image of a video from a rtmp server onto a BitmapData object. The workarounds I've found all apply to a SWF file being loaded from another domain. This involves having logic in that file.However, I see no possibility to place logic into the video and hardly have access to the (WOWZA) video server of which there are multiple and to me unknown ones at forehand due to the CDN's load balancing nature.

I'm looking for the most efficient possible way of drawing an 8 x 4 grid (960x600 total size). Each square of the grid has a variable alpha and the grid is redrawn every enter frame. The problem is my application is doing a lot already and I'm looking for the most efficient way to execute this loop 32 times (possible more in fact) per frame without overloading processor.
Code:
private function init():void {
var dimensions : Array = [ 0, 0, 960, 600 ];
var gridRaw : Array = [ 8, 4 ];
var stageRect : Rectangle = new Rectangle( Number( dimensions[0] ), Number( dimensions[1] ), Number( dimensions[2] ), Number( dimensions[3] ) );
[Code] .....
I'm under the impression there could be better ways of drawing the shapes straight to BitmapData without using Sprites, or maybe I'm doing something wrong about memory usage as I can see memory going up and down in a cycle.

I am using a custom Flex skin to create an active blur/frosted glass effect on the background of floating Panels, TitleWindows, and other containers (similar to http:url....). There is a background image in the Application skin, and potentially any number of other components above and below the active blur component. Here's some relevant code within the skin:
public static const BLUR_FILTER :BlurFilter = new BlurFilter(16, 16, BitmapFilterQuality.HIGH);
private var _bitmapFill :BitmapFill = new BitmapFill;
private var _matrix :Matrix = new Matrix;[code]....
Unfortunately, the performance of this when the component is being resized, and especially when moved, is poor. There is noticeable drag delay and overall slowdown, and this is with only one popped-up TitleWindow in the test application. There is especially poor performance when components inside the TitleWindow are changed (button hover states, etc.)I've attempted to optimized a little bit by avoiding reinstantiation of the blur filter, bitmap fill, and matrix, but this has had little or no effect. I removed the blur at one point, just drawing the Application to a bitmap, and the performance is still poor, so it's clear that it's mostly the BitmapData.draw() call.
I've read about using scrollRect and cacheAsBitmap, but I'm not sure where to apply these properties (or other optimizations I'm not aware of) within the Application or its components.

Suppose I have an IFRAME (or even better a Div, if it works?) set at 50% width. And if I put a swf in there, with the swf's size set to expand and fill the area, I'm assuming it will resize accordingly.Then when I resize the window, the frame and the SWF resizes(correct?)THEN, is it possible to place content in the SWF that will adjust accordingly? What I'm trying to do is lay out a series of identically sized thumbnails w/in the swf that will wrap to the area width. Exactly like a list of inline divs, but within the swf. I'd like to figure out a way to make the SWF know its size as it changes and adjust the positioning of contents in the swf fluidly.

I have BitmapData (in short 'bmp') which I use to compare pixels between two, same pictures. When I find my thing, then I load next picture into BitmapData and compare again but here is my problem. Loading picture into bmp only works when I click button which lead to function like that:
Quote:
private function dodaj():void{
bmp = new BitmapData(imedz2.width,imedz2.height);
bmp.draw(imedz2)
}
[Code].....
doesn't load image. Only thing that works is to use Spark Image component (with already specified source to file) and get picture from it.

What I'd like is the ability to draw a line with the drawing tools in Flash, and have that line appear onscreen as if it were being drawn. I don't think there's a way to do that with the animation tools (I'd like to give it a go, but I have no idea, once I've drawn a line and converted it into a symbol, how I could access the anchor points and whatnot of said line to then do some funky stuff with curveTo, or whatever better solution is out there...

I am trying to make a so called pixel effect in witch I want to make a shape only from pixels that are positioned in some random place on the stage. And all these pixels move to a certain point and create that shape. I've been looking into BitmapData Class but I don't now if that is the best way to do it.

I would love to get some help or advice on how to create an effect in a drawing application. I want to build a drawing application, which is not that difficult. I've found several resources on these type of applications. What I want to do is "merge" 2 examples that I've found. This drawing application makes sense to me and I feel I can modify it to my liking. (sorry in advance I cant post links)

I want to end up with the following effect. Bitmap pencil quickly moves accross the canvas diagonally and reveals an image. The image itself is drawing so I kinda want to make the illusion that the pencil draws whatever is on it. I don't want the pencil to follow the actual line in the image just to ask like a mask and quickly reveal the picture. So I was wondering if there is any cleverer way to achieve this, instead of animating everything manually

I want to create the drawing effect in Flash that many of us have seen on various websites.URL...I have an object already made in Fireworks. It's just a simple rounded rectangle with a 10 pixel stroke. I'm looking to draw the mask which in turn will give the impression to the user that the object is being drawn (because masks work in reverse).Right now, I have a version already done with a frame-by-frame slow erase of the mask. When played, it makes it look like the rectangle is being drawn. The problem is that it's just too shaky and jumpy. I need a more fluid animation which, like most things, can be done much better in ActionScript. I saw the Drawing API tutorial on Kirupa.com, but it doesn't show how to animate it and I definitely don't know enough AS to do it myself.

I have an AS3 application where I used the bitmapdata with its copypixels to create a cropping effect on the imported image file (JPEG etc), now I am in need for exporting the resulting cropped data to image file suhc as JPEG, TIFF or any other format. I am actually transferring the content of bitmapdata containing the cropped image into movie MovieClip object therefore, exporting from movieclip containing the image data is another option.
