ActionScript 3.0 :: Reference A Path Of A Symbol?
Sep 15, 2010How can I reference a path of a symbol in actionscript?
View 3 RepliesHow can I reference a path of a symbol in actionscript?
View 3 RepliesI am simply trying to move symbols around on my Stage, and each time I move one, the "path" is recorded and the object flows on that path when I scrub or play back.
All I would simply like to do is reposition images and symbols with out the movement and animation.
Here is an odd question, can I tile a graphic symbol in my library along a path or apply it as a stroke somehow? In Illustrator you can select an item, go to the brushes palette, select new brush, new brush pattern. Is the same functionality available in flash (even programmatically)?
View 1 RepliesI have a mc in my library called SimpleButton and in the class path for that mc I have the path to my class: com.company.ui.buttons.SimpleButton.
But when I try to instantiate the symbol using the following code, it does not appear on the stage.
Code:
var simpleButton = new SimpleButton();
addChild(simpleButton);
The code works fine when the mc class path is just SimpleButton, the symbol is added to the stage. However when I try to use my own class, the base class disappears from the linkage box in the mc properties dialog and the symbol does not appear on the stage.
Here is my SimpleButton class:
Code:
package com.company.ui.buttons
{
import flash.display.DisplayObject;
[Code].....
I have spent many frustrating hours trying to figure out why this is happening. It is totally broken. I need to use a motion path using 3d in a symbol. Because of the way the project is put together (for Flex) there are several FLAs that need to be converted to symbols.
So when I convert the FLA that contains a motion path with 3D, the object moves away from the path in the symbol (the 1st frame remains in place, but everything else is off the path), even though it remains correct in the main timeline.
And once I start editing the object in the symbol, the object returns to the path ok, as if it had been some strange display issue, but the 3D is all wrong - the vanishing point relative to the object has changed. The same thing happens whether I create the 3D path using "global" or "local" tool settings.
I've created a simple class... in the class I have a function which creates a button clip..[code]In the onRelease handler I call the buttonClicked function within the class... however... I can't get it to work. Basically, I don't know how to path reference it. If I say this.buttonClicked() then it is referring to the clip itself instead of the class.
View 2 RepliesI've been trying to reference a Library symbol that is introduced in Frame 2 by using it's instance name, using timeline scripting only. I am trying to make a colour picker MC symbol for multiple re-use. Firstly I drew a small button on the stage and converted to MC, called textColourPicker of type CPicker (the class used to represent this MC in the Library). Inside this MC I have a button symbol called pickerButton

I'm not even sure if the title reflects what I want to do. Here's backstory. I have a movieclip with 5 'holder' movieclips in them. They are my containers for dynamically added movieclips. The parent containers has an instance name of pyramid, the holder instance names are labeled after the 6 food groups, i.e., 'grainholder', 'fruitholder', 'vegetableholder', etc etc...The holders are within the pyramid container, instance names as above, and the pyramid container is added to the display list. I have a addFoodToPyramid() function which adds 'foodMC' mc's to their respective holders. So an [object Apple] will be dynamically added by way of pyramid.fruitholder.addChild(Apple). The function also adds a listener. Heres the call and the function:The call (I will use grains as example) is this:
addFoodToPyramid(grainArray, grainHolder, grainCounter);
And the function is:
function addFoodToPyramid(thisArray:Array, thisHolder:MovieClip, thisCounter:Number):void
[code].....
So I have a button on which I create an instance of a symbol, I'd like to have a listener for the new symbol but I get a reference error because it compiles the listener before I get to create the instance. What do I do?
[Code]...
I am starting simply (or so I thought) by pulling an object from my library (libraryButton) with a unique identifier btn[i] and placing a dynamic text field within it. thus;
var numberOfButtons:Number = 5;
var btn:Array = new Array();
for(var i = 0; i < numberOfButtons; i++) {
[Code]....
would work, and Im simply trying to target a child item within btn[i]
How would I reference a button instance on the main timeline in the actionscript within a movie clip symbol?For example: btn1.addEventListener (MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, main1Over);where btn1 is an instance of a button on the main timeline but is not found within the symbol itself.I will then be dragging that movie clip onto the main timeline when it's finished.
View 3 Replies1. When I make a symbol, I find the reference point always appear on the upper left corner, is there a way I can change the position of that?(besides use javascript?)
2. When I make a animated graphic Symbol, I drag into scene, it always repeat itself so I have to change the instance property to non-loop. Is there a preference which I can preset all the instance to non-loop?
3. if I make 2 animation character in 2 different flash file, how can I combine the 2 files but still keep the layer and key for each character?
In Actionscript 3, I'm trying to build a button to go back from a content frame to a main menu. When the button is clicked, IF the content frame has a movie in it, that movie should stop playing. Flash keeps throwing a "null object reference" error on all pages that don't include a movie. I even tried putting in a check to see if the movie exists, but that doesn't work, either.
ActionScript Code:
function return_to_menu( me:MouseEvent ):void {
if ( flashmo_contents.flv_movie ) { //this line produces errors in frames where the movie
[code]....
I'm new to AS3, and can't figure out why this loop isn't behaving the way it "should."
[Code]...
How can I give each anonymous function a reference to each object represented by f, rather than a simple reference to f each time? Specifically, why is it that each copy of the anonymous function gets bound to a single reference to f? How (I should say why) exactly does AS3 differ from JavaScript in this regard?
So I've created a script where a mc is clicked on and the player can draw a path using the mouse. I'm trying to figure out how I can get the mc to follow the path drawn out by the player's mouse and when the player clicks again, it erases all of the path.my code is below
Code:
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;[code].....
the same class is passed to the mxmlc compiler in SWF library as a symbol linkage class and again in a source-path. But the compiler uses the definition from the source-path so creating new instance of that class won't create new instance of the library symbol. How do I tell the compiler to prefer the definition linked to the symbol (the one dfrom SWC)?
I have my design assets in an FLA file and they are linked to classes (e.g. [URL]. Then I export those assets to a SWC library and pass it to the compiler. Now when I create an instance of the class (new MyAsset();) it will be a new instance of the library object.
But there are other classes too in the source folder (e.g. "com.myproject.model.*" so I need to pass the source folder to the compiler too. And that is the problem, now the compiler will use the MyAsset.as definition from the source path, not from the SWC where it is assigned to the library object so if I create new instance of MyAsset now it won't duplicate the library object.
Here's what i'm trying to do: Hide a MC depending on the path variable as:
[Code]...
Well that doesn't work, for some reason, i can't use a string as a multiple level path..
I was wondering if it possible to write up some AS that will take line paths that you have drawn and convert them into a Path object? For example say you drew a jagged line from left to write, would there be a way to have AS convert that into a Path object.
View 11 RepliesIs it possible to draw out a path in the flash editor, set its visibility to hidden, and use this path data to animate objects in AS3?
View 1 Repliesi have a quick question what is the syntax if u want to use parametrs to define a path inside a path? i mean:

does anyone know.... it's very important!
I have a project in Flash Professional CS5 and ActionScript 3.
I have a movieclip symbol (referred herein as "background" with scripts on various keyframes inside of that symbol. I need to hide or show another symbol (referred herein as "object") sharing a stage with "background".
To put it another way, I need "object" to be hidden when "background" reaches a certain internal keyframe. However, as "object" and "background" are both children of the same stage, how do I do this?
what i want to do is, when certain button is clicked, replace a certain symbol(button) by another symbol(movieclip) stored in the library. i try things like loadmovie("","") to replace the symbol from a external jpg, but some how it does not align even both images are exact dimension. can i replace an image straight from the library?
View 1 RepliesThis is a head scratcher. Why would a root relative path cause a Security Sandbox error.. but an absolute path to the exact same path work fine..

I animated eyes blinking inside of a movie clip symbol and placed the symbol on a face outside of the symbol.The eyes are stuck on the first frame. I am using CS5. What do I do?
View 5 RepliesHow do i get the hitTest() function to test if a certain symbol is hitting another symbol, but, only if drawn parts of the symbol are touching, not thier outer bounds.
View 2 RepliesBasically there's an object in a movieclip. I want to find the location of that object in relation to the movieclip, not of the object's symbol. So when i look at the x and y of it, it wont show 0, it will show the x and y location in the movieclip it's in.
View 2 RepliesI'm, trying to create a duplicate symbol and then be able to drag the symbol around the screen.I have an image - once converted to a button and on the stage as paddock_btn. The other converted to paddock_mc in the library, with a linkage identifier of "paddock".I want to be able to click the button, and create a duplicate, which can be dragged and placed on the screen.Unfortunately, I don't get any output errors here.
Code:
//create a function to duplicate paddock
function dupe_paddock():Void {
i = i + 1;

I have a scrollout menu for my flash movie, but each of the buttons have to be movies symbols. I try to attach:
on (release) {
gotoand stop(4)
}
But I get the error that this script only works for buttons. Anyone able to lend some assist? I suck at actionscript.
I am displaying some flash content on a fairly standard page. This works really well when the flash, xml file and html page are sitting together in the same directory.url...However, I want to display that same content in another page which is deeper inside the site but outside of the directory that houses the .swf and .xml files as well as the assets.[code]The js files are loading properly but the flash content is not, so I could use a little help getting that sorted out.
