ActionScript 3.0 :: Replicate The Map Found In Mass Effect And Mass Effect 2

Several months ago I created this, The Halo Galactic Map. After talking with a lot of people on their opinions and such, I wanted to take it to the next level and replicate the map found in Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 shown here.
Based on my knowledge of Photoshop and some... and by some I mean very VERY little Flash... I took it upon myself and another member of the community to create this.
All was going well until the member decided it wasn't his cup of tea. Basically, he didn't like that he couldn't do it well enough.
Ok, so I've installed Flash and tooled around with it for a bit, but I want to get going. I know this isn't the best place to post this thread - I know there are probably better places - but I just wanted to know where and what to begin with. I have the whole thing planned out in levels, layers, and motion...

I have... ~1300 "Drawing Objects" (read: Shape) sitting on the stage that were Paths in Illustrator and were pasted in as part of one cohesive image. I need to be able to access all of them via ActionScript, but as with my post on the AS side of this problem, they are all stuffed into a single Shape and not accessible independently.

I am working on a flash project that has many fla files associated with it. Is there a plug-in that will allow me to publish many flash files without me having to manually open and publish them myself. I know in Photoshop there is a batch processing of actions but was unaware if there was one for Flash.

I have an AS3 based FLA that, for various reasons, needs nearly all of the linkages in the library reworked (need to move to a different package namespace).This particular FLA is pretty big, so doing this by hand would be rather tedious.I have considered saving out the FLA as an XFL, and just hand editing all of the XML files in the LIBRARY folder, and then saving out as FLA. Has anyone tried this? I have never worked with XFL files before, so I don't know what quirks I may run across.My problem has to do with loading SWFs and class conflicts because of multiple SWFs using the same package namespace. Without getting into too many details, I know about ApplicationDomain and LoaderContext. I am currently loading into a new ApplicationDomain, but that isn't an ideal situation and is causing grief that won't be maintainable in the long run.

Any easy way to mark an entire package/directory and all subfiles as being [Deprecated]? I'm about to separate a large number (500+) of genericly-coded library files from our more app-specific ones, and need a way to notify developers they are using the files that have moved so they can point them to the new directory. In the meantime I'll be opening them all one-by-one

I'm trying to update a series of buttons with a for loop automatically. These buttons will have a somewhat fixed instance names like btn1,btn2,btn3,btn4.My problem is i don't know how to reference the button names with a dynamic variable appended..I have something simple like this, but can someone point me in the correct direction for the syntax please?[code]

I was recently tasked with replicating [URL] in HTML5 and jQuery. I'm currently struggling to do the effect where the menus slide up behind the images when an arrow is clicked (See the Menu section for the best example) and was wondering if this is actually possible in jQuery. So far I have [URL] which is sort of getting there but I'm not sure it's the best approach.

I'm trying to replicate the motion of a 'mexican wave'. I am using Flash CS5, and using AS2. I've created a 'jumper' graphic and animated it in a clip so it jumps once - up then falls back to the ground. I've pulled the clip in to the main timeline and replicated a bunch of times so I have a row of 'jumpers'. I've given each instance a unique ID. Then I'm telling each clip instance to start playing, in sequence, using the following code:

In the clip, I have put stop() in the last frame to try and stop it looping. So this works ok, but the clips seem to loop - I can't get them to stop.

I would like to create a mass of images which doesn't have the same size/ratio. The images cannot overlap, but they should be placed as close to each other as possible, so you get a big picture created by a lot of small ones.

im trying to make a simple BMI (Body Mass Index) Calculator but it doesn't seem to be working
my code is:

the BMI_FINAL.text box always displays NaN, and when traced it says Undefined and the code looks sound but i cant get it to work.

I was looking for a code that does a turning page effect and have found one, but am experiencing a problem. The code is giving me a problem when i add more pages to the existing file. I am really hoping that someone can help me out with this as it is really urgent.
I have attached the original file. I need to add a total of 16 pages. Can someone pls see the file and explain to me how this is done. The pages are all generated with the help of action script. I get an error something to do with the 'with statement'. If someone can solve this problem could you please explain where I have to make the changes and what the resulting code would do.

In my animation I have a button utilizing the tellTarget command to activate another movieclip (which contains an effect for the button). The button and the "effect movieclip" (each on their own layer) are inside a movieclip called MC_mm_buttons which again is inside the main .swf
When I test my .swf the output window gives me this error message:
Target not found: Target="/test" Base="_level0.mc_mm_buttons"
I isolated the button and its effect movieclip simply by making them again, from scratch, in a new document.. everything works fine, so I've got the tellTarget command and the interaction between the button and its movieclip nailed down. Now, I'm pretty sure that it has something to do with me needing to specify that the effect movieclip (in my real .swf) is inside another movie clip and on a different layer.. My button and movieclip are in the same movieclip but each on a layer of their own, the movieclip has an instance name of "test" and the button has a script like this:

When I roll the mouse over the button, the output window gives me this:

I really like the text effect Pom used in the footer contest, and would like to use the same grid-type method of creating mc letters but with a different effect. i understand how to change the parameters and shapes of the letters, but can't seem to figure out which piece of code is purely for the explosion effect. basically, i want the letters but with the 'Repel' effect from[URL] here is Pom's AS:

It's a bit of decoration to go behind a logo. When the dMove var is commented out I get the appropriate line of squares fading in and out at random spots along the x = 78 axis, but when introduced nothing appears at all...

in a nut shell I have found this wicked piece of open source actionscript.
It responds to the cursor and was wondering if it is posible to modify the x_position and y_position actions and make the action respond to a moving object???? (a movieclip with a variable name)

I want to be able to make a movie clip (that acts as a button) so the roll over effect finishes before the roll off effect is triggered. Like if a marker circles a button, i want the circling animation to stop before the roll off effects happens. Anyone know how to do this.

how to animate the effect where the background changes from blue stars to yellow stars? I can see it's done using masks, but I'm stuck trying to animate the 360 degree effect which I suppose would be like an animation of a circle getting thinner and thinner, radiating out from the centre.

I am using flash to create an animation where text, once converted into a movieclip or a button, fades at a certain point. To do this I am using the text tool and converting the text into a movieclip.
I am trying to make the text fade away by using the alpha property, but the preview will never adjust the movieclips alpha value. I've tried embedding the font and linking it but it still just doesn't work.
