ActionScript 3.0 :: Set The Alpha Of A Component Physically Placed On The Stage?
Feb 28, 2010
I am trying to access a button that has been added to the stage to change it's alpha value.I'm changing it from inside an object that is also on the stage. So I thought this.parent.feed_btn.alpha=0 would work but flash is saying:1119: Access of possibly undefined property feed_btn through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObjectContainer.I would actually prefer to remove it, but removeChild threw up the same error.
As far as I know theres in no way to cahnge the alpha of a dynamic text box. I put one in a movie clip and when i try to change the alpha of it everything else in it changes its alpha but the not the DT box. Could someone plz verify for me that u can't change alpha and help me find a component that allows alpha control with a dynamic text box. thx in advance.
I create a lot of banner ads for my work and they vary in small and superlarge sizes with product/price info. We recently upgraded to CS 5.5. and I am now working on setting up my workflow as a project to be more efficient. The smallest banner is 300x95 and the biggest is 980x500 - just to demonstrate the size difference. They should both have the same productinfo inside and I would love it if I could have one assetfile for all product info - including the product image - but because of the obvious banner filesize issues I can't just drop a 500px tall image into the assetfile and use this on all bannersizes because even if I scale it down in the smaller banners Flash will still export it as a 500px tall image. Is there any way in Flash to physically downsize the file when scaling it?
It kind of functions like a shopping cart / product calculator.
I want to be able to physically save a file with text data (to be reloaded later) in a directory on the computer. the app is running form a projector on windows.
I've bought a component on flashden. This is a text component that makes it possible to load CSS & Html on your flash project. Check the included zip for the source. What I want is that the background of the component is transparant. Now it has a linear gradient. I've tried to set the drawing in the component to zero alpha but that didn't do the trick. How to edit the background (if nescessary by actionscript)?

1- Variable Scope : Accessibility and existence are used almost interchangeably in various documents I've read. I'd like to know if a local variable physically exists (in memory) outside of the function it was declared in, and is not accessible from other methods, or if its existence ceases outside the function.
2- Classes : When do you create an instance of a class versus importing it only, specifically in the case of classes used only as say, calculators ?
I'm building this game, and it was working fine, until I used the menuBar component. It's not code related, 'cause i've commented out the script that does things with the menuBar. If I drag the MenuBar component from the component window, onto my Stage , the game refuses to work. If I deleet it (but keep it IN my library), it still doesn't work!. But if I turn the export settings of the MenuBar off, it works! The classes that i'm using for my game are called Node.as, JawBreaker.as The class I want to use to do something with the menuBar is called GameMenu.as (but that doesn't matter, since I commented the calling of that class out).
All I want to do is have a scrollPane component on the stage and within that component I would like to have a movieclip that is essentially a list, and each list item is a button to be clicked on. I have no problem doing this if I have buttons within a movieclip, but having them in a scrollPane produces the following error:
1119: Access of possibly undefined property mcButtons through a reference with static type fl.containers:ScrollPane.It seems that I am unable to use the scrollPane component as if it were a movieclip and to use dot syntax to access it's content.
Let me try to explain what I'm doing. I have multiple movieClips (mc_aitkin, mc_anoka, there will be a lot more) on the stage that I want to change their alpha using data from an xml when it loads. I can isolate the info I want and trace it so it shows in output, but I'm not sure how to use it from there.
I've tried to convert the xml data to a number and do an if/else as shown below, but the only output I get is "not" (from a trace). So I'm guessing the if/else isn't recognizing the xml data as a number?
If I can resolve that, the next step will be to apply this function to the large number of mc's I'll have on the stage. Would that be with something like e.currentTarget.alpha = .5; ?? I don't think I can put it in the same changeAlpha function because there the property of 'e' would be undefined.[code]...
If I have a clip already on the stage. how can I go about having code to set the alpha = 0 so that the clip is default invisible. If I set the alpha in the class constructor it gets reset to what its set on the stage. I tried to use the Event.ADDED event since that gets dispatched before rendering too (I think). I mean If I don't have any choice then I'll just set it to 0 manually . Just was hoping to have the capability to set it in code. So that I can still see the clips on the stage just to make it easy for moving them around if I needed to. Where I need to set the alpha so that it takes effect 'after' the default values get applied..
I have a text caption (two textFields, one acting as a dimmable background and the second including the displayed text) that when added to the stage takes on the default alpha value (1) and is not changed when I address it in mouse_over and mouse_out events. Some background... What I want to accomplish is:
1) a horizontally scrolling image gallery 2) reads image source, caption title, link and page data from an XML file, 3) is re-usable on several web pages (both swf and xml) as it can identify the current page and dynamically display images appropriate to that page from the xml file 4) On image mouse over the image should resize (get bigger) and should pop up the text caption for the image (this is where I am stuck!!!) 5) on image click should take the visitor to a new url
I have cobbled this together from several tutorials and am not a developer.I sense I have gone terribly, terribly wrong with the textField stuff if not with other things too.The caption pops up on the stage at the bottom of the image (where it should be) at run time but at full alpha (1) even though I set it to 0 earlier.I suspect this means I am not loading these objects correctly (but I don't know where I've gone wrong). Then inside the MOUSE_OVER and MOUSE_OUT events I can't change the opacity attribute which makes me suspect I am not addressing these objects correctly (but I don't know where I have gone wrong here either).[code]
I want to alpha tween (ease in from 0 to 1) an object on stage over 25 frames. And after the tween is over i want the object to persist on the stage and in the timeline. How can i do that?afaik i have to extend the tween in the timeline beyond the keyframe with 1 alpha. But when i do that this also extends the time of the tween from 0 to 1 and it actually lowers the alpha 1 in the keyframe automatically to some figure that fits with the ease in which apparently spans the entire tween.
I have 3 movieclips on a stage, all being instances of a square (mc_square01, mc_square02, mc_square03).What I want to do is on every reload to have a random movieclip to be the 'correct answer' - and this is the bit I'm struggling with. The way i'm testing this out is just to change the alpha of a movieclip on the stage. Here's my code....
I'm looking to make a slider bar reveal movie clips on my stage as you drag it along. I've written some sloppy code that works, but isn't smooth by any means. I basically put MCs on different frames on the timeline, and I want those MCs to fade in or out relative to where the pointer is on the bar. This was a workaround, what I think I need is a boolean solution, but I'm not familiar enough with AS to write one from scratch. Here is the code I have so far. Does anyone have any ideas?
I simply have one FLVPlayback component in the background and a movieclip on the layer above with an FLVPlayback component inside it. The first FLV component is constantly looping a five-second video. So all I need is for the movieclip containing the second FLV component to load the right file, fade in, and when the video ends, fade out. Absolutely all of that works... apart from the fading in. What I noticed was that my movieclip was fading in correctly, but the FLVPlayback component was empty and transparent until the fade had finished - then it played the clip. Here's my code, which gets called at random intervals:
[URL] i want the object to fade out but in the object there's a lot of overlapping pictures and each becomes half transparent. how to make the movieclip to change the alpha as it was without objects?
I'm trying to apply an "alpha" tween to an image on the stage. I've made it a movieclip symbol an it's instance name is background_mc.Here's the code I am trying. It's not working. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I have a flv component on my stage and i have buttons load different flvs into that component. However, I need to have it loop when its over. How do I do this??
We are the developers of a complex Flash component (url...) which worked without issues on Flash CS3 and CS4. Now, in Flash CS5 (both Mac and Windows versions) we have found a couple of problems at author-time
-1- After installing the mxp file containing the component, when trying to drag the component from the Components panel to the stage, or to the Library panel, it doesn't work. There's no way to import the component!
-2- If we open an existing FLA (created with Flash CS4), the component doesn't show correctly at author-time: you only get a black frame, instead of the expected result (it should show a white background with a logo in the middle). When compiling, everything works fine.
I think there is a simple solution to this question, just not simple enough for me to find it.Question:How do you constrain a TitleWindow in Flex 3 from being dragged off the screen/stage? Is there a way to restrict the TitleWindow to the viewing area? Example: Let's say I have an application that take 100% of the screen. Next, I create a TitleWindow via the PopUpManager. I can then proceed to click and hold (drag) that window off the screen, then release the mouse button. That window is now lost off-screen somewhere. Is there a way to keep the window from being dragged beyond the viewing area?
I have an AS2 swf that loads FLV videos into a FLVPlayback component and attaches a seekBar component. When the video stops I unload the seek bar from the screen and set the FLVPlayback.seekBar = null. When another video is to be played I set up the seek bar again by attaching the seekBar component to the stage and assigning FLVPlayback.seekBar = newSeekBarInstance.
[Code]...
What Im noticing is that sometimes the seek bar is removed from the screen and sometimes it isnt? I cant seem to notice any pattern here. Has anyone had similar problems? Do I need to force garbage collection?
