basic navigational system for an iPad presentation.I have, for this example, 5 pages in my library which I've added into an array.The effect I'm aiming for, when the user swipes to go to the next page, it should:
- Add the next page to stage using addChild (out of view)
- Tween the current page out of view, tween the next page into view
- Remove the old page using removeChild.
The reasoning for this is I will have a large amount of pages with heavy animation and I'm trying to avoid having them all present on stage at once to prevent a drop in FPS.Here is my code so far. I've tried a few things such as trying to re-set currentPage with the array but have had no luck. Been pulling my hair out for a few hours now!
Was hoping to get some advice here. Having trouble with what would seem to be a basic navigational system for an iPad presentation. I have, for this example, 5 pages in my library which I've added into an array.The effect I'm aiming for, when the user swipes to go to the next page, it should:

I have created a dynamic accordion style navigation button using both Falsh and XML.I have the XML loading at a certain keyframe after the navigation button is fully expanded creating 7 sub navigation buttons which link to a certain website.
The Issue I'm having is when the user rolls off the button the it collaspes but the 7 sub navigation buttons still remain.
I have tried several navigation scripts and z-index all over the place but no matter what I try the sub-folders of my navigation on my homepage always gets hidden by the slideshow. Can someone tell me how to correct this? If you need to see it go to this site and move your mouse over the 3rd link down (home services) to have the sub-folder come out:
Using Child Navigation to load main time line.I am new to AS3 and have done pretty well but have been caught up this area.I have been loading swfs into a loader (imageLoader) which has been added to the stage using addChild. Then with buttons and functions I load other swfs into the same loader which replace each other. I now have an swf "testProject3a.swf" loaded into (imageLoader) which has icons for navigation and when each icon is clicked I need it to load another swf into (imageLoader) and replace it's self "testProject3a.swf" with "portalB.swf".I've tried adding removeChild code to the loaded swf but it removes the original (imageLoader) and the other buttons have nothing to load into.[code]
I followed a tutorial to build a click-thru photo gallery that is linked to an XML file. The tutorial set up the navigation as being controlled by clicking the images, but I wanted to add some more obvious navigation prompts for viewers on my website. The "next" button was easy to do as I just copied the actions for clicking the images on the main section of the stage, but when it came to building the "previous" button, the code was not working. I want the button to take the audience to the image before the image they are on when clicked.
I've pasted what I have below and highlighted the sections that I have altered. If you could please tell me what I'm doing wrong, that would be great.
I am trying to load 2 arrays. The first array is a dynamic navigation menu (linkName). The second array is the corresponding title that is loaded in a dynamic textfield. For example if link1 is clicked I want the dynamic textfield to display title1 from the array if link2 is click display title2 and so on. As of right now the dynamic navigation loads fine I just cant seem to figure out a good way to do this without writing a bunch of if statements. I would like it if the programming assumed the that the length of the title array is always going to be the same length as the link array and it finds the corresponding index.
var linkName:Array=["link1","link2","link3","link4"]; var pageTitles:Array=["title1","title2","title3","title4"]; var menuHolder:Sprite = new Sprite; addChild(menuHolder); // loading the navigation bar [Code] .....
I'm making an xml slideshow width 2 navigation arrows. I have loaded either the xml and the images. The problem is this: in the first frame i have a movieclip called "foto1" in which i load the first photo and underneath this i have another movieclip called "foto3". I load the two photos and i fade "foto1" to "foto3". after i'm going to the second frame in wich i have "foto3" and underneath this "foto1". I've loaded "foto3" but when the movie go to the second frame "foto3" contains nothing.
I've got an interesting issue with the actionscript in my file. I've created a slide show with 27 labeled frames - they've been labeled "frame 1", "frame 2", "frame 3", etc... My issue is the first time everything works perfectly, if you hit next or previous. It goes to the correct frame. On the last frame if you click next it should take you back to "frame 1" and basically loop through all the frames again if you keep pressing next. The problem is it goes back to frame 1, and then next doesn't work on this frame. I don't understand what's going on considering the first time around - these frames work perfectly.Here's the code on frame 1:

I'm trying to create a "floating" style navigation similar to the link below but WITHOUT and 3D effect. Just text/navigation that is floating and reacting ever so slightly to the xmouse/ymouse and maybe scaling on rollover or something...I don't know where to start...
anyone have a tutorial or link that has something similar in effect?[URL]..and also the "solutions" section of this site, although this doesn't really interact with xmouse/ymouse[URL]..
and here is another that uses imagery and full screen...[URL]..
I've got a comboBox component on the stage, instance name 'combo'. I want to style the text. I followed the adobe instructions, but they seem not work, and I get no errors.
Code: import fl.data.DataProvider; import flash.text.TextFormat; var tf:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
I'm trying to have a class file which can add objects to the stage via addChild; however, when I call addChild from within the class file, I get the error "1180: Call to a possibly undefined method addChild." I've tried importing flash.display.* and that doesn't fix the problem. Does the class file have to extend Sprite or MovieClip to be able to add objects to the stage?
I have downloaded Box2d ([URL]) and created a project that looks like this: [URL]. catalyst is the green cube and it has the base class "shapes.box", it is inside "world" which has the base class "wck.World". What i want to do is to add another "catalyst" from the library inside "world" when i click on add_btn. I tried to accomplish this by this code:
[Code]...
Symbol 'buttons', Layer 'Actions', Frame 1, Line 41061: Call to a possibly undefined method addChild through a reference with static type Class.
The newMC doesn't show up.If I add 'parent.' in front of the addChild then it appears.mc_LibItem has a base class of "flash.display.MovieClip" and is exporting for ActionScript and on frame one.For grins I created a new .fla and began messing around with the same addChild idea and it worked.
I am running into some trouble adding an array into another array to create a multi-dimensional array.The code appears as below:
var slideDataArray:Array = new Array(); var slideShowDataArray:Array = new Array(); slideDataArray[0] = xmlData.SlideShowParameters.SlideShowImagesDirectory;[code]........
I am looking for a means of placing the slideDataArray into a 'slot' or value of slideShowDataArray so that I can in the end pass the slideShowDataArray as a parameter to another function.As of now, the last slideDataArray appears 11 times (the loop runs 11 times) in slideShowDataArray and the way the code is written the slideDataArray is unique every iteration of the loop.
I have created a pie preloader(preloader.zip) which is working fine. Same preloader I am trying to incorporate in a xml based slideshow(slideshow.zip) to show image loading process but some how I got stuck. I am new to flash. Suggestions are welcome.
1. How to solve the problem of preloader2. Is it possible to integrate everything in a movie clip (including AS). I mean no AS on main time line but inside the movie clip. It would be much easier then to to create multiple slideshows by duplicating mc and changing the xml file.
i have a question about text in a slideshow. i know how to make a basic photo slideshow with external images. but now what i want to do is add 4-5 paragraphs of text next to each photo (with possible scrolling). the text will be different on each photo.
I've got a bit that loads a big chunk of xml data about products.I push product info into an array(e.g. productArray), then add that array to another array (e.g. allProductsArray)How do I sort those arrays? For instance, if I want to sort the allProductsArray based on the info in productArray[0]?Alternatively, would something other tha an array of arrays be a better route?This loader loads the same sort of info for many different clients, so the bit to sort on will change.
somewhat understood the basics of adding and removing children, however, I am facing another problem. After using the removeChild Function, I can't seem to add another child.For example:
ActionScript Code: var attachedMC = new (getDefinitionByName("Content1") as Class)() Page.addChild(attachedMC);
I have a main "shell" swf which, by clicking several buttons, will load/unload various external swfs into a Placeholder_mc which resides on the main timeline in Shell.swf In the documentation and tutorials I've seen a couple different methods, and I'm not sure I quite understand the difference, or at least the reason you would use one over the other...In the 1st method, you can just add the Loader object using the addChild() method:
Code:
var myLoader:Loader = new Loader(); var myURLRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("ExternalFileA.swf"); myLoader.load(myURLRequest); Placeholder_mc.addChild(myLoader);
This will apparently add myLoader to the display list once it has completely loaded.The 2nd method, you supposedly can add the Loader.content; however, it appears you can only do this once the content has completed loading, so you need to incorporate an event handler with the contentLoaderInfo object:
Code:
var myLoader:Loader = new Loader(); var myURLRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("ExternalFileA.swf"); myLoader.load(myURLRequest);
[code]....
What are the pros/cons of adding the entire Loader object, as opposed to the Loader.content and vice versa?
I'm trying to write a function where I can specify any amount of array, and the return value will be an array containing the contents of all of the specified arrays.I've done this, but it seems like a really slow and ugly way of doing it:
var ar1:Array = [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9]; var ar2:Array = ['a','b','c','d','e','f','g','h']; function merge(...multi):Array[code].....
Is there an inbuilt and more efficient / nice way of achieving this? The result does not need to be in the same order as the input - completely unsorted is fine.
A little explanation: Im making a random arranging number Array. So instead of using a loop and assigning 0 to first array element, 1 to second, etc.I need to make it totally random but without repeating any numbers. To do that I made a second Array that will have the same number of children to serve as a reference.Each of them will be an Object with a property "num" , wich will be its actual number, and a property "called" wich defaults to false.Like this:
ActionScript Code: for(var i:int=0;i<vQuantity;i++){ ranArray.push( new Object() );
I've had a problem for awhile that was really odd. After some intense debugging, I realized the problem lied in setting an array equal to another array.[code] When setting one array equal to another, the values aren't copied over, but a reference to that memory is stored. So no matter which variable you change, they are both references to the same memory and thus both will reflect the changes.With other data types, this doesn't happen.I could fix it by looping through t1 and using push() to add each index from t1 into t2, but that seems a little messy.
correct syntax for pushing variables to arrays within arrays? I have searched many threads but found nothing that exactly answers my query.I have a class (Brigade) which amongst other variables contains an array (BrigadeUnits) This is the third element.. My Brigades are stored in an array called AllBrigades. I now need to fill the BrigadeUnits array with objects of my Units class.The hierarchy I want to create is as follows:
AllBrigades (array of Brigades) Brigade (object) BrigadeUnits (array within Brigade object) Unit (Object to be stored in BrigadeUnits array)
I have tried various approaches including the following, assuming that I am addressing the first Brigade in the array:
Im looking to add a bit of nice movement to a simple black background.has anyone ever since or used a PS3 style looping menu background or something similar, it has to be something subtle....
