I have two TLF textfileds in my application. The first TLF textfield is on the stage and the second one is created dynamically during runtime. Now I am able to embed the fonts in the first TLF textfield by using "use device fonts" since it is on stage. The flash player the rendering the data absolutely fine. I want to get the same look and feel for the second TLF textfield which is created dynamically during runtime. I tried so many ways.
Here is the code I am trying.

I ran into the 'fontswf' utility to embed TTF fonts into SWF and I am struggling to load them at runtime from my app. All the examples I find online refer to loading the font via [Embed] but I am actually loading them with a flash.display.Loader and from what I gather, once the Loader.contentLoaderInfo fires an Event.INIT I need to register the font, like so:
public function handleLoaderComplete( event:Event ):void {
var FontClass:Class = event.target.applicationDomain.getDefinition( fontName );
Font.registerFont( FontClass );
}
The problem is I don't know what to pass in as fontName. I am generating my SWF through:
$ fontswf -a belshaw -o belshaw.swf belshaw.ttf
But when I try to call getDefinition( 'belshaw' ), I get an error saying 'Variable belshaw is not defined'. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this?The alternative is to generate my on SWF files through templating an .as file and compiling them, but I would rather use a built in tool like fontswf if it's already there.

I would like to preface this wall of text by saying, I am very new at this. I may be missing something obvious. I'm working in Flash CS5 with Actionscript 3. I'm trying to use actionscript to create a textfield, and populate it with text. I've embedded my font in my project using the "Font Embedding" window. However, when the code to create the textfield is run, if "embedFont = true;", the font is invisible. The cursor still changes when hovering over it, so I know it's there. Or at least its text box is, I guess. Dynamic textfields with embedded text which are already on the stage seem to be unaffected.
I've tried changing the embedded fonts outline format, neither work. I've tried directly embedding the font with the "embed" tag via actionscript, but it doesn't seem to work with CS5, or I don't know what I'm doing. As you can see in the code provided, I've tried "registering" the font, with no success. I've tried using:

If I import a font to the library, am I correct in assuming that it imports the massive character set (all). There seems to be no setting that I can see where to specify the glyphs or level of character support for example all the funny characters.

I am using Flash CS5 (assets) and FlashDevelop (code) for my project. We have about 20 fla/swf's that contain textfields. All of our textfields use the same Font, and the font is specific to our company so won't be installed on anyones computers, hence it needs to be embedded.
My ultimate goal is to have one single font embedded that all of the textfields use, for 2 main reasons:
Whenever we add more characters to the font (other languages), we only need to add them once and not 20 times The file size doesn't blow out dramatically
I'm having great difficulty in trying to achieve this. It seems that everything I try, characters are missing (only characters entered in the text property of the textfields in each fla seem to be embedded).
The latest solution I am trying is using Runtime Shared Libraries, as this seems like it should work. I have an fla called FNFont.fla. It contains just one object in the library, the embedded font. The font is exported to AS3, exported in frame 1 and exported for runtime sharing. The URL is FNFont.swf (all swf's are in the same folder).
In all the other fla's, I create the font object in font embedding. I tick Import for Runtime Sharing and give it the same class name as the one in FNFont.fla. The URL is FNFont.swf. The fla(s) contain many textfields using this font. The textfields have instances of themselves as children of other movieclips.
When I run the program and attempt to load a movieclip that contains an instance of one of these textfields, I get the error:
[Fault] exception, information=ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable FontName is not defined.
FontName is the class name of the Font object in FNFont.fla and all other fla's. It is not the instance name of the textfield (nor the class name), so I don't understand how it thinks its a variable.

How do I embed fonts for dynamic text fields using actionscript without adding the font to the library? The text fields are created using actionscript, with a user-defined text format, whereas one of the properties the user defines is the font, hence the need for embedding the font without adding it to the library first.

I wanted to separate my embedded fonts to save filesize, so i've put them into sharedLib.SWF, and then preloaded sharedLib.SWF into flash using another SWF so that i could use these fonts further in multiple FLAs, without consuming additional bandwidth. I followed one tutorial, and checked out many different ones, to see if this issue occured to somebody else too. I had no luck finding the solution. Furthermore, i want to embed these fonts into AS-created textfields using AS.[code]I tried to create 1 TF manually, and placed it on the Stage, setting its display text to one of the embedded texts (Tahoma*). This actually worked! And one more strange thing happened.. Three of those TFs created using actionsctript, which were before blank, were NOW also filled with correct embedded text, EXCEPT one textfield which used Tahoma text non-bold, non-italic [!?]. Now how does this happen, and why the exception, i wonder.

I'm trying to use the AlivePDF library to export text from a text editor created in AS3 into a PDF. Can anyone link me to documentation or a tutorial that can help teach me how to integrate it into a normal AS3 file? I have no idea how to use the library and the only documentation I've seen for it is how to use it in Flex/Air, which is not what I'm looking for.

I save my (embedded) fonts in an external file (fonts.swf) that gets loaded at runtime. Pretty standard. I also use a bunch of UI artwork generated in the Flash IDE. Some of this artwork contains static textfields (thus, not proper TextFields that can change. Just frozen glyphs). Here's the problem: if I use the same font in any static textfield and then embed that same font into my collection of runtime fonts, the runtime font will refuse to render. It's the same effect you get if you set a textfield with embeddedFonts=true to use a font that isn't embedded. If I change the static textfields to use a different font, the runtime fonts work just fine.

Edited Short Version:The Adobe Flash docs list a property embedFonts on TextAreas:
A Boolean value that indicates whether the font specified in fontFamily is an embedded font. This style must be set to true if fontFamily refers to an embedded font. Otherwise, the embedded font is not used. If this style is set to true and fontFamily does not refer to an embedded font, no text is displayed. The default value is false. Regarding the "If this style is set to true and fontFamily does not refer to an embedded font, no text is displayed" statement: How can I detect in ActionScript when this scenario happens?
TL;DR Original Version: I have a flash application which loads external .swf files containing embedded fonts, so that these fonts can be used within the main application. We're accomplishing this by using the following ActionScript code on anything which uses custom fonts:

Right I can upload the font to the server.But the only examples I can find - require registerFont(Verdana);Which means I'll need to create a new SWF with the new font embedded and reupload to the server. I need an automated way of doing this or perhaps something different altogether?

I have only one question but phrased it 3 ways:
1) Is it better to pre=render things say in photoshop or have flash render them?
2) if I have a field of stars that drift along; is it better to create that Star Field in photoshop as a single picture (say a .png) or to create a star in my library and add it to a movie clip and then have that drift along?
Lets say I have a blur effect on my stars and have an equivalent on the photoshop.
3) I have heard (and experienced) adding effects like blur takes a fair amount of CPU and memory so was wondering if I created the effect in photoshop and then imported the 'blurred' object into my flash if I could cut down on system resources?

I've recently had to format my computer and now having a problem with the flash actionscript window: the actionscript text looks like bold, or in a different font. The problem is that when I search for something like "flash" and "fonts", no matter which other words I use, always comes a lot of things about fonts for flash files, or for flash embedding fonts, but never for the program itself. Wich font is missing in my system that flash CS3 needs?

When an instance variable is constructed by a constructor method, why do you need to refer to the current instance variable being created when its the only one being created? I understand assigning an expression to it but why name it "this." when it is the only object that the constructor is building? Does it have some hing to do with being able to naming that object in the Local Variable? In other words am I creating a generic object that will be named in another class?

I am working in two different applications, one to be compiled for desktop use (AIR) and one to be compiled for the web. They are part of the same project and use the same visual components, but they are completely different apps. When a visual component is changed in one application then it should also change in the other one. Is this a good situation to use a shared library fla? I am new to the concept of shared libraries and I am considering the options.
On one had I would not have to update 2 applications everytime I change something, on the other, I would always have to recompile the library folder when I do the smallest changes to a component.

I've got a simple question. Suppose some simple lib written on c. Did I understood correctly that alchemy compiles it AS3 before compiling it to swf. If so, will the lib be slower or faster in comparison with the same lib written on AS3.

I am making a flash app where I want to have a user defined viewport like the stage in the flash IDE which the user can use to define objects that have a starting postition somerwhere off or on the stage and an ending position either or on or off the stage with the object then tweening between the two points. My question is this: I want the user to be able to define a curved path for the object to tween along. Is there a library of code that I can use to define curved paths for the app?
Ideally I would like something similar to the functionality available in Flash, so a bezier curve sort of path that is subdivided into handles that can be dragged to define the path of the tween. If there isn't an existing library, then do you know of the functions that I would need to define (mathematical equations related to drawing curves etc)?

In my child swf I am using the sound from library with "attachSound". I also use the play/pause button controls of this sound alongwith the other animation.Now when I load this into my main swf file with "loadMovie", It plays fine but no sound. I found that this is due to no sound linkage in my main file library.I want to share my child swf's library with main file's library.

As one would expect, Classes within my RSL can access the classes and methods of the embedded swcs. In other words, classes in my library can for instance call import org.alivepdf.Print and then call AlivePDF's Print.print() method. But it there any way for my project to also use those third-party classes and methods, by "tunnelling through" my RSL??? Even though my project is using my RSL, when I try to type out org.alivepdf.Print it cannot be found.(Obviously I can make a manager class in the library to "pass through" specific commands to the embedded swcs; I'm looking for something a little more generic and all-encompassing here).

I'm dynamically creating movieclips with dynamically created movieclips inside them and am having trouble with targeting them.Below is a simplified example of what I'm trying to achieve, in the real file there are a lot more movieclips and I'm creating and naming them with a for loop.
This one is just one Sprite created inside another sprite. I can target the top level sprite named "testname". However when i try target the nested MC it throws an error.The bottom couple of traces are just test MCs I've made to make sure i got the syntax right, on targeting nested movieclips.
PHP Code:
var holder:Sprite = new test1();holder.name = "testname";this.addChild(holder);var holder2:Sprite = new test2();holder2.name = "testname2";holder.addChild(holder2);trace(getChildByName("testname").x); //this one traces finetrace(getChildByName("testname").getChildByName("testname2").x);//this throws up an errortrace(testclip1.x);trace(testclip1.testclip2.x);

Library symbol "Card" is linked to class "Card" which extends "MovieClip". Library symbol "Card" contains a card background image.Library symbol "Ace" is linked to class "Ace", which extends class "Card". Library symbol "Ace" contains a TextField with a big letter "A".So we have Ace extends Card which extends MovieClip. Ace therefore extends MovieClip, but does not DIRECTLY extend MovieClip.When I drop an instance of Ace on the stage and compile the clip, all that shows up is the big letter A. However, I expected the background image from Card to be included, since Ace extends Card, and the Card symbol contains the background.It seems like Flash ignores symbol content unless it belongs to the top-level class being instantiated.I think it's LAME that one symbol can't extend another. The IDE could easily draw Card as a non-editable background while I'm editing Ace which extends it, and it should instantiate Card's content and then Ace's content when an Ace is instantiated.

I've run into this incredibly annoying problem today. I have numerous dynamic textfields in my movie that embed the font Gill Sans MT. Some of them are normal/regualar, some of them are bold. But, in the published swf all bold text fields are displayed as normal/regular! I've investigated this for hours, and the only way I can get the bold font to display properly is to NOT use the regular one anywhere in the movie.
I also tried making a new flash movie containing two text fields, one that embeds Gill Sans Normal, and one that embeds Gill Sans Bold and that worked fine. So my suspicion now is that my original .fla has somehow gone corrupt so that the bold font data is overwritten with the normal font data. Is this a known issue?

I want to find a way to list all the fonts in my FLA files. I want to see that the developers get the fonts they need before the problems crop up - wild idea, I know. Using the edit/font mapping option seems to only show fonts which are missing or have been re-mapped. How do I get the FLA to give me the name of every font it's holding?
