I have got a component within my flash form. I have a button that sends information to PHP (this is working). What I need is checking whether the check box is selected or not, so that if it is my button will go to one place, and if not then it will go to another (which I know will be done with an 'if' statement).

I have been playing with this for a day and haven't been able to figure out the proper path to load this variable.So I have a main movie, a menu (movie clip) in it, and each menu option loads an external swf in a movie clip instance (called content) in the main movie.Loading the movies works fine.My problem is I want assign a variable that I have declared in a loaded movie in the 'content' instance.
Main Movie
|
- Menu (MC)
-onrelease -loads movie.swf, assigns defaultpage var a value
[code]....
Here is the onrelease code I'm using
on (release) {
this._parent.content.loadMovie("company.swf"); //this works
this._parent.content.defaultpage = "somevalueinhere"; //this doesnt
}

I keep getting this error on the following line:
Code:
dc.score += 3;
dc is an instance of the document class, which contains the score variable. But in the class, I have score declared as a variable, not as a constant.
Code:
public var score:uint = 0;
I remember that the code worked an hour ago, but I don't recall changing anything here.
I also get these:
1195: Attempted access of inaccessible method updateScores through a reference with static type rd2:dclass.
1195: Attempted access of inaccessible method spawnUmbrella through a reference with static type rd2:dclass.

I'm somewhat new and trying to learn actionscript. I'm getting and error that has me puzzled.
**Error**
Scene=Scene 1,
layer=actions,
frame=1:Line 2: Left side of assignment operator must be variable or property.
bg-mb_mc._alpha=50;
I have a timeline with 3 jpgs on it that have been converted into symbols.
bg-gooto_mc is an instance of bg-gooto
bg-mb_mc is an instance of bg-mb
bg-lace_mc is an instance of bg-lace
When I try ... bg-mb_mc._alpha=50; I get the error.
using setproperty ("_level0.bg-mb_mc", _alpha, 45); works ok.

In the following code (thoroughly debugged) the first case (1) in the switch is met and a new instance of BannerSingle is assigned to retVal (the return value). Unfortunately, while the second case (2) is never met, the assignment therein to retVal takes place and I can't compile. When I comment out the assignment to retVal for "case 2:" everything works fine.
I've tried using an if/else instead and I still get the same odd behavior. Also tried a number of solutions involving separate variables, etc.
package fl {
import fl.IBanner;
import fl.Banner;

I have a swf that I want to edit.I decompiled it and edited the one value I wanted to change (It was how many items were displayed). Now, I get a few AS I cannot fix, I know enough AS to get by, but this is above my head.I have two errors, they both say: Left side of assignment operator must be variable or property.
ActionScript Code:
function goNext()[code]..........
I marked the lines that have syntax errors.they are hosted on my test server and I can PM you links. (I am building a website and don't want the link out there.

I have a class named Locator that I use to GeoLocate a user. There's a static method in that class called "locate()". This method then calls another method which sets a static variable called "loc" to an instance of a LngLat class.The issue I'm having is, when I call the locate method at Frame 1 on the scene, and then try to access the loc variable it shows as null... but when I trace the loc variable after it's set in the Locator class it shows as an object.[code]and then trace the variable at the end of the static method in the Locator class it shows as a object and the city is traced as expected.

I have an application I am developing, a part of which involves a number of icons on a page - when you roll your mouse over an icon, the movie moves forward a frame, and a text area is populated with text, fed from a php file (which pulls data from a MySQL database). Each icon pulls in a different value, depending on the values in the php file.
I have this working a treat - see code below. The only problem is I need to create a seperate button / mc for each icon with the appropriate references on - in the code example below, the icon populates message.text - this.message2 - message2 is a value in the php file. So the next symbol would be message3, etc.
on (rollOver) {
myData = new LoadVars();
myData.onLoad = function() {
message.text = this.message2;
[code]....
I will need a large number of these icons, all with different values, so I would like to create a generic button that looks at it's instance name, and uses this for the numbered variable - i.e. the 2 in "message2".

I'm new to AS3 and HaXe, but was hoping to find a way to use methods from a final class (Graphics) without always prefixing an instance variable.Instead of something like this:
var gr:Graphics = flash.Lib.current.graphics;
gr.clear();
gr.beginFill(0xffffff, 1);
gr.drawRect(0,0,400,400);
I was hoping to get something that works like processing.org, but I guess a lot of the convenience there comes from the preprocessing. I looked at the HaXe reference on advanced types (http://haxe.org/ref/type_advanced), but I haven't been able to make anything work so far. This probably isn't possible since Graphics is final, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. It seems it would be easy if I could extend Graphics

I have 25 instances of a movieclip "star", duplicated and assigned variables using the following code:
Code:
for(n = 0; n < 25; n++) {
star.duplicateMovieClip("star"+n, n+1000);
with(eval("star"+n)) {
startype = random(3);
}};
I now have it so that when I click on any instance of "star", I'm taken to another frame, and in that frame I'd like to be able to look up the variable "startype" for that particular instance only. How exactly can I do this?

I have a base class I've used on 6 different MC's. Then when I use these MC's my function runs an if statement to check which one to add.
if(id=design) var obj = new design();
if(id=team) var obj = new team();
I want to make it a bit more dynamic and use the id:String to evaluate which new instance to create.
ActionScript Code:
public function loadChapter(id:String):void {
var obj = new instance_of( id )();
}

I've a question about variables in AS3 OOP. Do I have to set them to null or I it's not needed when I define them in beginning of the class? I just noticed someone doing so so I wasn't sure is it right or no.
private var _mcComponentHolder:MovieClip = null;
private var _mcComponentHolder:MovieClip;

f you know PHP...then you know that you can create a string variable...and then use the value of that variable to declare another variable. like this:
PHP Code:
<?php$foo = "haha";$i{$foo} = "success";print $i{haha};?>
and it would display "success"...or like this:
PHP Code:
<?php$foo = "haha";$$foo = "success";print $haha;?>
and it would also display "success".

Say i have a movieclip named a_Mc ( ClassA ) I have a sub-movieclip named b_Mc ( ClassB )
CASE 1: Accessing the sub-movieclip b_Mc which is already present inside the a_Mc movieclip
( Since Flash IDE has "Automatic instance naming" OFF )
ClassA mentions the name of b_Mc as => var b_Mc:MovieClip;
NOTE HERE: That the variable name MUST BE same as the name of the instance on stage.
So i can access it as : trace( a_Mc.b_Mc);

I'm working on a sliding gallery like Hulu. Setting it up and the sliding slides in and out is working fine. However, I need to add and then remove a button to each slide as it comes in and goes out. (I initially tried including the button on each slide, a mc, but this proved problematic for the event listeners). So when the file loads up, I add a mc to the first slide of the group like so (features[] is an array of movie clips - my slides):
Code:
var goBtn:MovieClip = new FeatureButton();
features[0].addChild(goBtn);
goBtn.x = 350;
goBtn.y = 230;
So I add the button/mc to the first slide - works just fine.
So there are two handlers, next and previous. So I started with the next handler. The first thing I have to do is kill the button on the panel that is sliding out, so I do that like so:
Code:
features[featureCount].removeChild(goBtn);
goBtn = null;
(featureCount is a counter keeping track of the slides). This works fine. I click the next button, and the button on the slide disappears and we move to the next slide - perfect.
So then I add the following next - exactly like I did in the beginning:
Code:
var goBtn:MovieClip = new FeatureButton();
features[featureCount].addChild(goBtn);
goBtn.x = 350;
goBtn.y = 230;
This time adding it to the current slide coming in - but this generates the following error:
Code:
TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter child must be non-null.
at flash.display::DisplayObjectContainer/removeChild()
at featuregallery_fla::MainTimeline/nextFeature()
How I'm getting an error on the removeChild() when that is already gone. I assume "parameter child" means goBtn - yes it is null because it's been removed. But I'm not trying to do something with that. I can only guess this is a variable scoping issue with goBtn - but I'm not seeing how to resolve it. Flash file attached.

I did a separate levelData class to be able to flexibly add levels. I was happy with it until my supervisor ordered me to convert my levelData into XML. I did an XML version of the levelData's data (question, answers, correct answer...). I used the old class and converted it so that it fetches the XML.
All seems well, I did traces of my answers array and it printed nicely...
But the headache started when I tried this.
// This code appears in a different class with
// currentLvl:LevelData initialized in the constructor.
quizHolder.ansA.ansHud.text = currentLvl.choices[1];

I like finding out about tricky new ways to do things. Let's say you've got a class with a property that gets set to the value of an argument in the constructor, like so:[code]That's not exactly a hassle. But imagine you've got... I don't know, five properties. Ten properties, maybe. Rather then writing out each individual assignment, line by line, isn't there a way to loop through the constructor's arguments and set the value of each corresponding property on the new instance accordingly? I don't think that the ...rest or arguments objects will work, since they only keep an enumerated list of the arguments, not the argument names - I'm thinking something like this would be better:[code]
